"Wow", Xander said as he sat down beside Willow and Buffy. "The Bronze is really rockin' tonight. Cordy's really missing out".
"That's for sure", Buffy agreed as she looked at the packed dance floor. "Why couldn't she come anyway".
"Oh", Xander sighed. "Big emergency. She got a pimple".
Buffy and Willow laughed, just imaging what Cordelia Chase must have been like after discovering a pimple.
"Anyway. Will, that new girl seems nice enough", Buffy said as she scanned the dance floor.
"Yeah she is, she's really interesting and she loves computers and books and..."
"So basically she's just another geek", Xander jibbed.
"Hey...", Willow started but stopped when she saw Nikki enter The Bronze. "Over here", Willow waved and caught her attention.
"Hi. Sorry I'm a bit late. I got caught up with... something", she smiled as she took a seat beside Xander.
"No problem", Xander said as he looked her over. She was pretty, not like Buffy but pretty in a less conventional way. Her hair was tied in a neat plait with a few stray hairs falling around her face. Her clothes were a bit baggy, covering most of her body. They reminded him of the sort of clothes Willow used to wear before she started going out with Oz.
"Where is Oz anyway", Xander inquired.
"He was tied up tonight Xander, remember", Willow said, trying to keep the anger out of her voice.
"Oh, yeah", Xander remembered. The full moon was tonight so Oz was tied up. Literally. With chains. One of the many low points of being a warewolf.
"Is Oz your boyfriend?" Nikki joined the conversation.
"Oh yes", Willow gushed. She loved talking about Oz. "He's in a band. They're really good..."
As Willow rambled on Buffy kept her eyes on the door. She'd been hoping that Angel would show tonight. Oh, well. She brought her attention back to the conversation which had moved onto Nikki. She was telling them about her life in Ireland. Buffy liked the new girl. She didn't really know why but she just seemed so genuine and approachable. She was also very easy to talk to, Buffy discovered later as she had to catch herself a few times from revealing too much.
"Oh", Nikki looked at her watch. "I really have to go". She stood up to leave and the others followed suit.
"No", she protested. "You guys don't have to leave as well. I'm sure I'll be able to get home myself".
Willow gave Buffy a look and Buffy understood. "I have to go home too so I'll walk with you", Buffy offered. They said their goodbyes and left The Bronze. Buffy didn't really know what to say. Unlike Willow she knew absolutely nothing about computers and books. The technique of fighting vamps seemed to be an inappropriate subject.
Before she had a chance to say anything a vampire came out from nowhere and grabbed Nikki, throwing her roughly out of the way. He smiled, showing his fangs and made his way towards the slayer. Buffy quickly grabbed a stake from her bag but it fell as the vampire jumped on her. She fell to the ground, face to face with the vamp and his fangs.
"Haven't you boys ever heard of flossing", she said as she began to regain her strength. Suddenly he was gone.
"Angel", Buffy whispered as she saw him pummelling the vamp that had attacked her. She picked up her stake just in time to catch the vamp in the heart as Angel threw him to her.
"You okay", Angel asked, looking concerned.
"Fine. Man, we make a good team. Maybe we should enter the Olympics. They could call it synchronised vamp slayage".
He smiled and moved closer to her.
"Hello Angel", a female voice came from behind him.
Nikki! Buffy had totally forgotten about her. This was going to be hard to explain. Wait a minute. How does she know Angel. She turned her attention back to the other two.
Angel had turned around to Nikki. His expression changed from one of shock to one of joy.
"Nikki", he laughed as he took her in his arms and hugged her.
Meanwhile Buffy stood there looking bemused.
Once they stopped hugging and laughing Buffy approached them.
"So, you guys know each other".
You could say that", Angel smiled. "Nikki is a ......relative".
"A relative", Buffy said. "Oh, well.....what".
Angel smiled. "It's a long story. Maybe we could go somewhere and we'll tell you". Suddenly his smile faded as he took a better look at Nikki. Her face was cut from the fall and her clothes were torn and he could see some nasty cuts on her body. She was aslo beginning to look very pale.
Buffy noticed this too so she walked over to Nikki's side to help her stay standing. Angel went over to her other side and they both helped her down the road.
"Let's go to Giles place. He's the nearest and I'm sure he's love to hear how you too are.... relatives", Buffy suggested.
