Willow got into her seat just before the bell rang. She saw the girl from the library take a seat beside her so she gave her a warm smile. She hoped she didn’t think she was rude from what happened in the library.
“Okay class. Settle down”, Ms. Smith said, quickly taking control of her class. “We have a new student today, Nikki Byrne, so I want you all to make her feel welcome”.
Everybody looked at the new girl as she proceeded to turn a deep shade of red.
“Well, welcome to Sunnydale High. I’ll just find someone to show you around”, she scanned the faces in front of her before resting her eyes on Willow. “Ms. Rosenburg. You wouldn’t mind showing her around would you. No. Good”. She turned back to the board and began the lesson.
Willow glanced at Nikki and smiled. She seemed nice enough, she didn’t look like any sort of demon, but then again you could never really tell while living on the Hellmouth. For all she knew this girl could be some sort of monster bent on destroying them all. Stop that, Willow scolded herself, she’s probably a very nice, normal, human being. Wow, I’ve been fighting demons way to long, she laughed at herself.
After class Willow took Nikki on the grand tour of Sunnydale High. Nikki turned out to be really nice. Granted her accent was weird and, at first, a bit hard to understand, but once you got over that, they got on like a house on fire. They had so much in common - both loving books and computers.
“Hey Will”, Xander and Buffy ran up behind the girls.
“Hi guys”, Willow stopped and tuned around. “This is Nikki. She’s a new student, from Ireland. Isn’t that so cool”, she looked at Buffy, thinking of all the things they could find out about where Angel came from.
“Hi”, Buffy said to the new girl. She knew what it was like to be the new girl so she decided to make and effort to be nice to Nikki. “I’m Buffy and this is Xander”.
“So”, Xander grinned at the girl. “You must know Giles. Come on, you can tell us all his secrets”.
“The librarian? No. Why would you think that”, Nikki asked, looking surprised.
“Well, you’re from the same place”.
“Mr. Giles is from England”.
“And you’re point is...”, Xander was starting to get confused.
“I’m from Ireland. They’re two completely different countries”, Nikki laughed at Xander’s blunder.
“Well, listen, sorry to interrupt this riveting conversation, But Will, Giles...Mr. Giles needs our help in the library with some......”, she struggled to find a good excuse.
“Books”, Xander finished of the sentence. Buffy hit him on his arm for coming up with such a lame excuse.
“Oh yes, the books”, Willow tried not to smile. “We’ll see you later then. Hey Nikki, would you like to come to the Bronze with us tonight”.
“I’d love to. If that’s okay with you guys”, she looked wearily at Buffy and Xander.
“Of course”, Xander exclaimed. “We love new people, well most of them, some have been ... well... I’m finished now”.
Willow grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the library before he said something else.
“See you tonight”, Buffy waved as she ran to catch up with the other two.
