Heidi and Nolan walked slowly down the street slowly. Heidi smiled at Nolan awkwardly as she took his hand.
“I-I had a fun night.” Heidi said
“Yeah the movie was good wasn’t it.”
There was a pause as the both of them looked around nervously. Normally Nolan didn’t have a problem talking to Heidi but ever since the empathic connection they shared in the gym he’s been feeling something for her. Nolan looked at her and smiled.
“You look really pretty tonight.”
Heidi blushed as she straightened her skirt. They arrived at Heidi’s door a moment later and they stood on the doorstep.
“Well,” Heidi said as she continued to blush, “This is my place.”
“Yeah . . .” Nolan replied
Again they paused awkwardly as they looked around.
“ . . . So . . . I’ll see you at school on Monday?”
“I’ll be there.”
They looked into each others eyes. The both of them decided that this is the right moment. Nolan stepped closer to Heidi and put his hands on her waist. Heidi tingled with excitement as Nolan slowly began to lean in. suddenly excitement changed to a look of pain as Heidi suffered another brief headache. Nolan looked at her in concern.
“Hey are you okay?” he asked
Heidi shook her head slightly and smiled at him.
“Yeah I-it’s just a normal headache,” Heidi replied sweetly, “to much ice cream for me.”
They both laughed lightly as they both looked at each other again. This time it was Heidi who decided to make the move. she shifted herself closer to Nolan and moved in for the kiss . . .
. . . But a moment later she stopped.
Heidi looked at Nolan with alarm.
“What?” Nolan asked
Heidi didn’t reply as she stepped away from Nolan. She began to pout as she ran from the doorstep. This confused Heidi even more.
“Heidi.” He called out before he followed
~ The Whitfield household, Raleighfield California – 1 hour later ~
“Okay I’m coming” Rebecca said in an annoyed tone as somebody pounded on her front door loudly
She opened the door to find Heidi and Nolan standing behind it. She looked at the both of them strangely and noticed Heidi standing anxiously.
“Guys? What are you doing here?” Rebecca asked
“I . . . I know where the Ram Seal is.” Heidi replied
“Come in.” Rebecca replied seriously
Heidi moved to step inside but Nolan took her by the arm.
“Heidi what’s going on?” he asked
Heidi looked up at him sadly.
“It came back.” She replied sadly.
~ The library, Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California ~
Heidi sat nervously on one of the tables as Nigel placed an elaborate sphere on the table. The sphere was the size of a grapefruit and consisted of cogs, gears and various types of locks. Nigel handed her a blindfold.
“Are you sure this is gonna help?” Heidi asked anxiously
“Absolutely,” Nigel replied in a reassuring tone, “Now that we know what you are I can tailor your training to accommodate your new abilities.”
“Okay. What is that thing?”
“It’s a puzzle ball. It’s designed to help telekinetic people with focus and control . . .”
Nigel picked up the ball.
“ . . .You see every gear and lock has to be moved in a precise order to unlock the puzzle.”
Heidi looked at the blindfold confused.
“But if I can’t see it how do I open it?”
“You don’t see it with your eye Heidi you see it with your mind.”
Nigel took the blind fold from her and covered her eyes. He sat down next to her.
“Now focus,” Nigel prompted, “ see it in your mind.”
Heidi took a deep breath and focused. At first she saw nothing but slowly the image of the puzzle ball entered her mind. Nigel watched the ball seriously as it slowly began to hover off the table. The gears began to turn on their own as Heidi manipulated the ball.
“Good, keep focus Heidi.”
The library door opened. Rebecca and Nolan entered. Nigel gestured to be quiet as they watched the hovering ball. Heidi began to relax into the task and the mechanisms of the ball began to move a lot more smoothly. She could see the ball clearly in her mind now. Suddenly a different image flashed into her mind. She saw the Ram Seal sitting in a cave and a two people she couldn’t see very well enter then suddenly . . .
The started to shake. Nigel moved quickly and caught it before it hit the table. Heidi quickly ripped off the blindfold and breathed heavily. She pouted sadly while she tried to decipher the images she just saw.
“what happened?” Nigel asked
“I saw it again,” Heidi replied with a curious anxiously, “I saw the seal again and something happened.”
“What was it?” Rebecca asked
“I don’t know,” Heidi replied, “I’m not seeing as good as I used to. But I think it was something bad.”
“So what’s the go?” Nolan asked
Rebecca pondered.
“I’ll go scout the area see if I find anything that might hurt. You said it was in the woods just outside of town?” She said
“That’s what it looked like.” Heidi replied
“Alright I’ll be back in about an hour or so.”
Rebecca stood up and walked out of the room. Nolan watched Heidi as she sat at the table in a depressed fashion. He moved mover next to her and put his arm over her shoulder.
“I-I hoped it would stay away forever.” Heidi said, “I hate it.”
“I know Heidi but, hey, you got me now right? So if you want to talk.”
Heidi smiled. Nolan leaned in and kissed her.
~ Nigel’s office, Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California ~
Nigel took one of his volumes he had stacked up on his shelf. He sat down at his desk when he heard a knock on his office door. Nigel closed the book.
“Did you find out where it is?” Nigel asked
“Not yet,” Darrel replied from the doorway, “But I was hoping you had something.”
Nigel swung around sharply. Darrel walked in casually and closed the door.
“Now about the Ram Seal.” He continued
“I’m not going to tell you anything.” Nigel replied
Darrel shook his head.
“That is such a shame I was hoping we could work together,” Darrel replied, “now I’m just gonna have to blackmail you.”
Darrel opened his briefcase and pulled out the manila folder. He threw it onto Nigel’s lap. Suspicious Nigel opened it and read the contents. A moment later he looked up at Darrel in alarm.
“where did you get this?” He demanded
“Central filing,” Darrel replied, “do you know how hard it is to keep up with the paperwork?”
Nigel stared at the document. For the longest time he tried to forget about this incident but the past didn’t want to stay buried. Darrel smiled at him
“It’ll be a shame if The Divine One found out about what you did.”
Nigel glared at him.
“Don’t!” he snapped viciously
“Hey I’ve got nothing to lose. The question is do you?”
Darrel took the folder from him.
“When The Divine One returns give me a call alright?”
With that Darrel turned and left. Nigel leaned back in his chair and frowned seriously. He’d been trying to avoid this ever since he discovered Rebecca working at the school now it looked like he had no choice but to help Darrel.
~ The cafeteria, Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California - lunch ~
Belle sat at the table and scanned through her text book. She looked up to see Heidi and Nolan kissing intensely. She rolled her eyes.
“Will you two quit it?” she snapped, “I’m trying to study.”
Nolan looked over to his sister smugly.
“Gee I’m sorry Belle. Why don’t you get your boyfriend and we can have kissing competitions, oh wait, you don’t have one.” He said sarcastically
Belle shot him a look.
“Cute Nolan, hey, should I call your boyfriend and tell him you’re cheating. You know how cranky he gets.”
Heidi laughed at him which earned her a look from Nolan.
“Who side are you on?” he asked
Heidi smirked at him then kissed him lightly. She turned her attention to the slightly stressed slayer.
“So what are you studying?” Heidi asked
“I got this biology test in about an hour.”
“Do you want me to give you the answers?”
“Thanks Heidi but I think it needs to be my work.”
Nolan looked at his girlfriend in surprise.
“Hold on,” he replied, “you’re willing to help my sis cheat but I ask for one set of lottery numbers.”
“No lottery numbers!” Heidi said in mock anger.
Nolan rolled his eyes.
“Fine I’ll just have to live with having the best girlfriend in the world.”
Heidi grinned at him and they begin to kiss again. A moment later Rebecca entered the cafeteria she noticed the group and walked over to them.
“I found it,” she said seriously, “come on let’s go”
~ Out side the cave, Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California – 20 mins later ~
The group wandered out of the brush to find an innocent looking cave.
“it took a little searching but I felt the seal’s energy when I came across this cave,” Rebecca explained.
“I don’t like it,” Heidi commented, “something doesn’t feel right.”
“Agreed. Belle and I will go and investigate the rest of you stay out here.”
The group stepped out of the bush and walked slowly up to the cave entrance. Belle gripped her sword tightly as she and Rebecca began to move forward. Suddenly an intense pulse of energy shot out. The group shielded themselves until it was over.
“That’s not a good sign.” Nolan commented
“Stay back.” Rebecca said
Nigel, Heidi and Nolan stopped moving as Belle and Rebecca entered the cave. The cave it’s self wasn’t very deep and had the appearance of being constructed artificially more then being formed naturally. The slayer and The Divine One looked around for any sign of an attack.
“I hate to go cliché here but this seems way to easy.” Belle said as she remained
At the end of the cave the Ram Seal sat passively on a natural looking alter. Belle and Rebecca to a couple more steps until the sound of scraping rock caught their attention. They turned around quickly to see the entrance close over quickly. Outside the rest of them watched the entrance close alarmed.
“It’s going to happen.” Heidi said
“What is?” Nolan replied
Suddenly, from out of the ground, a long snake like tentacle with a blade on the end shot out of the ground. without slowing down it rushed forward and pierced Heidi’s chest. Heidi winced in pain as she dropped to the ground.
“Heidi!” Nolan screamed as he rushed over to her.
He and Nigel tried to pull out the blade but it continued to dig deeper. Nolan looked in Heidi’s eyes at the moment her life slipped away. Nolan was devastated. He desperately tried to pull out the tentacle but it was no use. Suddenly two more bladed tentacles raised out of the ground and wrapped around Heidi’s feet. She was dragged physically under the ground. Nolan tried to keep hold but Nigel pulled him back.
“We’ve got to move back Nolan!” Nigel yelled, “There’s obviously some kind of demon guard . . .”
A moment later another blade burst out of Nigel’s chest. The watcher only had enough time to look surprised before he was pulled under as well. Nolan stood up in a panic he tried to run over to the close over entrance but another tentacle sprung out catching his leg. Nolan fell hard fracturing his arm. He cried out in pain as he tried to kick of the tentacle wrapped around his leg. A second one emerged and before Nolan could react it punctured his chest. The last thing Nolan called out before he was pulled under was his sisters name.
Inside Belle felt the rocks covering the entrance suspiciously.
“This is not good.” She said, “What’s the plan now?”
Rebecca looked around the walls to see if there was any exit. Rebecca raised her hand to try and open a portal but nothing happened.
“Something’s blocking my magic. Looks liked we need to find another way out.” Rebecca replied
Belle turned to walk back to Rebecca when another tentacle shot out of the ground. Belle swung her blade quickly cutting off the end.
“Beck I’m getting that sudden trapped feeling.”
“Same I say we get ourselves untrapped.”
The both of the held up their swords ready for a fight. They didn’t have to wait that long as dozens of tentacles rose out of the ground. both of them swung powerfully. Tentacles fell left and right as Rebecca and Belle forced back to back. The fight was getting more intense. For every one of the tentacles they cut down three sprung up to replace it. Things were looking grim.
“Go for the seal!” Belle yelled, “I’ll hold them back!”
“What?” Rebecca replied
“you have a better chance of getting it then me. I’ll distract them.”
“Belle this isn’t smart.”
Belle didn’t listen. She flipped through a gap between two tentacles and bolted for the entrance. She swung around sharply cutting down four of them. Rebecca shot her an annoyed look before she moved at full Uber-Slayer speed to the Ram Seal. Cutting down a couple more tentacles Rebecca gripped the seal and lifted it carefully. She turned in time to see Belle struck down the tentacle burrowing through her chest dragging her to the ground while several others wrapping around her limbs.
Frowning intensely Rebecca ditched the seal and rushed in to help. She cut off the constricting tentacles and Belle dropped to the ground. the slayer winced in pain one last time before her life slipped away. Rebecca glared at the on coming subterraniel menace as she picked up both swords. Rebecca leaped into the center of the room and went to work swinging both blades at lightning speed. One by one the bladed Tentacles fell as The Divine One picked up speed.
For the duration it felt like Rebecca was going to survive. She slashed out a couple more time and tried to make her way to the entrance. That’s when it happened. Pain shot through Rebecca's body. The Divine One stumbled and dropped to the ground clutching her stomach. A moment later one of the tentacles flew out, stabbed her through the back piercing her heart. Rebecca dropped to the ground dead.
And that’s how it was ended . . .
In that cave as the bodies of the slayer and The Divine One were ensnared and dragged under . . .
Returning the cave to what it was, peaceful and quiet . . .
The Ram Seal hummed quietly to it’s self in the darkness . . .
. . . and that was the point where Dawn woke up screaming.
