~ Heatherview graveyard, Raleighfield California – that evening ~

Belle sat patiently on the tombstone. She played with her stake as she waited for some action to happen. Next to her sat Heidi who leaned back casually and swung her legs backward and forward in a lazy fashion. After the confusing confrontation with Id she experienced earlier on she managed to convince herself that it was just a side effect of passing out and it didn’t really happen.

“Thanks for letting me come out with you.” Heidi said casually, “I don’t usually get out much.”

“It’s cool. Enjoying talking to someone other then myself.” Belle replied

Heidi laughed. Belle looked over to the former seer. Belle was amazed with the change in Heidi ever since she lost her clairvoyant ability.

“Do you miss seeing the future?” Belle asked tentatively

Heidi thought about that question carefully. A sly smile crossed her face.

“You know what I missed more?” she replied

“What?”

“Being surprised,” Heidi explained, “I know it sounds weird but I’m loving walking into a room and not know what’s gonna happen.”

“God I never thought how freaky that would be.”

Heidi turned and smiled at her

“You don’t know the half of it.”

The two girls laugh. Belle looked Heidi up and down.

“You know what you need to do now? A serious wardrobe change.”

Heidi played with the bulky clothing she wore to hide herself.

“Think I’m overdue for that.”

Belle turned around and faced Heidi

“Come here.” Belle said

Curious Heidi turned to face the Slayer. Belle brushed the hair away from face.

“Wow,” belle said in surprise, “You have really pretty eyes. I don’t know why you keep them covered.”

Heidi shrugged.

“I don’t know it just sorta happened.”

“Well we’re gonna change that,” Belle replied brightly, “When I’m done you’ll have all the boys after you.”

Just then Nolan rushed up to the both of them. Belle notice the sparkle that appeared in Heidi’s eye’s when she saw her brother.

“Hey Belle,” Nolan said as he walked up, “just thought I’d tell you that Dad’s mad at you.”

Belle looked at Nolan in confusion. She folded her arms impatiently

“Why?” She asked

“’Cause I kinda told him you went out.”

Belle rolled her eyes.

“Why did you do that?”

Nolan shrugged.

“I don’t know,” Nolan replied lazily, “bored I guess.”

“You are so asking for a staking when I get home.”

Nolan looked at him annoyed.

“What did I do?”

“Never mind,” belle sighed, “That would take to long to explain.”

“Well I gotta get home before Dad get really pissed. See ya later Heidi.”

Heidi waved at him excitedly. She had a big smile on her face as she watched Nolan walk off. Belle looked Heidi.

“You’re still into my bother aren’t you?” she asked

Heidi began to blush.

“He’s funny and cute.” Heidi replied

“For the sake of our friendship I’m gonna forget you said that.”

~ Front of a restaurant, Raleighfield California ~

Alex stood impatiently out the front of the restaurant. He checked his watch again as he looked down both directions of the street. He tried his cell phone again and again he got the voice mail. Alex hung up.

“Where the hell are you?” he said out loud

Alex felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Sasha smiling at him. She was wearing a low cut, little red dress and knee high black boots. She brushed a few stray strands away from her face as she put her hands on her hips.

“Hope that wasn’t me you were talking about?” Sasha said playfully

Alex was taken back by Sasha’s Breathtaking appearance

“Wow,” Alex said in surprise

Sasha twirled around in front of him.

“You like?” She asked

“I like.”

Sasha smiled at him.

“So who were you yelling at?”

“Someone was supposed to join us tonight,” Alex replied putting his cell away, “But she’s running late.”

“Does she know where the restaurant is?”

“Yes but she’s not usually this late unless . . .” Alex thought for a moment, “Ah it’s probably some school stuff she needs to get done.”

“Maybe we should wait inside.” Sasha prompted

Alex shrugged.

“I guess you’re right no sense in waiting out here in the dark.”

They turned and headed for the door. Sasha moved in and put her arm around Alex’s. she smiled up and him warmly as they entered the restaurant. For the next half an hour the two of them caught up on old times. They laughed and drank and for a moment the two of them felt like they never broke up. Sasha looked Alex up and down.

“You looking great Alex.” She commented

“you’re not looking to bad yourself.” Alex replied taking a sip of his drink

Sasha looked down and smiled,

“I’ve been tying to keep fit,” she replied, “But with my schedule it’s hard.”

“Well what ever you’re doing it’s working. You look as good as you did back when we dated in college.”

Sasha laughed lightly. Then looked over to the scientist curiously.

“Speaking of dating what ever happed to that brunette you dated after me, what was her name? Reburta . . . Regina . . .”

“Rebecca.” Alex corrected

“That’s her. What ever happened to her?”

Alex smiled broadly as he held up his wedding ring. Sasha covered her mouth in shock.

“No way,” she replied stunned, “really?”

“Two years now.”

Sasha leaned back confused.

“I thought you wanted remain ‘independent’ to concentrate on your work?”

“What can I she had an effect on me?”

Again Sasha laughed.

“Did you stick with anything you told me you were going to do?”

Alex thought about this.

“I still rock hard if that what you mean.”

“Yeah I can see that.” Sasha smirked before looking at him seriously, “So are you happy?”

Alex was going to reply but he hesitated. He’s been trying to convince himself of that for a while but there was this but there was this thought in the back of his mind that keeps niggling at him.

“I think so.” Alex replied

Sasha looked at him curiously.

“You think? I thought that would be something that you would be sure of.”

“My life has taken some interesting turns.”

Alex took a moment to reflect on this. So much has happened over the last few years, a lot of it surrounding Rebecca, and he was never sure whether or not he was going to cope. Sasha placed her hand lightly on his. Slowly she rubbed her hand up and down.

“If you ever want to talk,” she prompted, “I can make time.”

Sasha smiled at him lightly. Alex returned the favor. He felt a spark he hadn’t felt in a little while.

~ Rebecca’s office, Raleighfield High School, Raleighfield California ~

Nigel opened the door and entered Rebecca’s office. in his hand he held the notes he took when examining the Signum Key.

“Alright I think I have a way of destroying the key,” Nigel replied, “but I’m going to need to borrow . . .”

Nigel looked up. the office looked empty but for some reason the light was left on. This was strange Rebecca never mentioned anything about leaving. he looked down and that’s when he noticed Rebecca lying unconscious on the floor. She had majority of the contents of the top of her desk surrounding her.

“Good lord!” Nigel said as he rushed to her side

Rebecca stirred slightly. She felt something cold and wet on her forehead. She slowly opened her eyes to see Nigel looking down at her.

“Oh thank goodness.” Nigel said in relief

Rebecca attempted to sit up but the pain shooting through her body stopped her. She lay back down on the bed and looked around.

“Where am I?” she asked

“The nurses office,” Nigel replied in concern, “Do you remember what happened?”

Rebecca rubbed her forehead.

“I . . . I was organizing some stuff for the career day tomorrow. I felt this pain go through me and the next thing I remember is waking up here.” She replied

Nigel sat in the seat in front of the desk.

“The virus must be accelerating or at least adapting to your body.”

Rebecca winced in pain as she shifted awkwardly.

“What time is it?”

“It’s about midnight.”

“I got to get home. I have things I need to organize for tomorrow.”

“you’re not coming in tomorrow,” Nigel replied, “I’ll talk to Simon and tell him.”

“I’ll be fine,” Rebecca snapped as she forced herself to sit up, “I can adjust to this.”

“And what will you do if this happens again in the school? How will you explain it?”

“It won’t”

Nigel rubbed his forehead stressfully.

“With all due respect Rebecca there is no way . . .”

“Nigel!” Rebecca retorted seriously, “I can do this.”

Rebecca took a couple of deep breaths as the pain slowly subsided. Slowly she looked up at The Watcher.”

“If I don’t come in they win,” she continued calmly, “we can’t let that happen.”

Nigel saw the conviction in The Divine One’s eyes.

“I understand.” He replied

Nigel walked over and helped Rebecca onto her feet. She leaned on him heavily as they made their way to his car. This was no longer a matter of surviving this had become a battle of wills between Rebecca and Darrel and this was one fight the divine one was not willing to lose.

The next morning the school was a flurry of activity. It was career day at the school and a good portion on the school was preparing. Nolan closed his locker and placed his books in his bag as Belle walked up and punched him hard in the shoulder. Nolan looked up in shock.

“OW! What was that for?” Nolan asked

“Oh like you don’t know!” Belle replied annoyed, “you’re just lucky Dad had to work late last night.”

“It’s not my fault you can’t come up with a decent excuse.”

“What happened to watching my back?”

“I was watching your back,” Nolan replied, “that’s where I put myself when Dad yells at you.”

Belle rolled her eyes and folded her arms.

“Heidi seemed cheery last night.” Nolan continued quickly changing the subject

“Yeah,” Belle replied, “she’s definitely been coming out of her shell since she lost her powers.”

“Are we thinking this is a good thing or a bad thing?”

Belle pondered on this. Her reaction changed when something down the hall caught her attention. She looked at it in surprise.

“I think we can put it in the good category.” Belle replied pointing down the hall.

Nolan turned around and saw Heidi approaching his look of surprise matched the one his sister was wearing. Gone was Heidi’s dark bulky clothes. Instead Heidi was wearing clothes of a more welcoming nature. Her hair wasn’t covering her face instead she had it tied back into a ponytail with a smiley face hair tie. She was wearing a deep blue pair of hipster jeans, white sneaker, a simple white cotton zip up jacket open to reveal the light pink tube top underneath.

Heidi saw the both of them and waved excitedly.

“Hey guys.” She said as she bounced up to her locker

“Hi . . . Heidi.” Nolan replied stunned, “How are you?”

“Psyched,” Heidi replied, “I have so got this history test nailed.”

Heidi finished collecting her books and turned to face the stunned siblings.

“What?” she continued

“Nothing,” Nolan replied, “it’s just . . . This is new for you.”

“Guess you didn’t need my help after all.” Belle commented

“Yeah, I had the best sleep last night.” Heidi replied, “I can’t wait to go to class.”

“Okay, who are you and what have you done with Heidi?”

Heidi giggled in a way that Nolan couldn’t help smiling. Belle looked at the two of them.

“I’m gonna jet. Nigel wanted to talk to me about something.” Belle replied before leaving, “Catch you later.”

Heidi waved goodbye. She caught Nolan staring at her and smiled at him warmly. Noland couldn’t help but stare at her. He never realized that Heidi had such a great figure. Heidi knew it was now or never.

“Hey Nolan,” she said tentatively, “are you doing anything this afternoon?”

“Nothing serious why?”

“Well . . . I was wondering maybe if you’d wanna go . . .”

“Nolan” a female voice called out from behind him

Nolan swung around sharply and smiled broadly. Angie stood behind him holding a small rose.

“Hey Angie.” Nolan said expectantly.

Angie looked less then impressed.

“Nolan I’m not sure what you’re trying . . .” Angie started

Nolan put up his hands defensively.

“It’s an apology, that’s it, I just wanna talk to you.”

Behind Nolan Heidi frowned this was one of the surprises she didn’t like. Angie sighed as she looked at the rose. She looked up at Nolan.

“okay I’ll meet you at lunch.”

“Great!” Nolan exclaimed, “That’s great! I’ll see you then.”

Angie turned and walked off. With the biggest smile on his face Nolan turned back to the angry looking Heidi.

“That was perfect did you see that . . !” he exclaimed as Heidi scowled at him, “Anyway I can’t be late I’ll catch ya later Heidi.”

Before Heidi could reply Nolan turned and walked away. Heidi stood there stewing on her anger. She put herself out on a limb and it felt like a slap in the face. Something stirred inside Heidi but she ignored it. As she fumed to herself she was totally unaware of what was happening behind her. While Heidi was glaring at Nolan a student down the other end of the row of lockers walked up to his locker. He put down his bag and searched for his books.

He stopped when he heard a loud rattling sound. Standing up slowly he saw his locker door and the locker doors surrounding it begin to shake and strain against their locks. The boy jumped back in shock when the door suddenly burst open. One after another the locker doors exploded open until they stopped right next to Heidi. Other students who had witnessed the phenomenon came to investigate curiously.

Suddenly four of the students standing next to Heidi suddenly became drowsy. Heidi looked back curiously when she heard them fall to the floor. Suddenly the full extent of what happened became apparent. She looked at the lockers strangely. It looked similar to what happened when she first saw Id. Maybe it really happened. Maybe it wasn’t because of the black out. There was only one person who could help her solve it.

Heidi turned and started to make her way to the library. After a few steps she stumble as she was struck with another headache. Losing her balance she stumbled into some nearby lockers. After a few moments the pain subsided. Shaking it off she disappeared around the corner.

Not long after she left the air where she was just standing began to crackle. Black vapor materialized and began to swirl around. It moved and twisted until it resembled the shape of a human.

Heidi rounded the corner leading to the library. Suddenly something grabbed her hair. Heidi was thrown back hard against the wall. Id pinned her tightly as her cold eyes glared at the girl. Heidi stared back at her terrified.

“I warned you Heidi!” Id snapped, “what did I say would happen if you helped then?”

“I-I Wasn’t going to . . .”

“Don’t try and lie to me you we’re heading for the Watcher.”

“No . . . No I wasn’t.”

Id frowned angrily.

“Are you trying to insult me?”

Heidi shook her head desperately. Id narrowed her eyes.

“You’re pathetic . . . ” she snarled

Id pulled out a large Ceremonial Dagger from out of her dress. She held it over Heidi’s chest. Heidi looked at it petrified as tears filled her eyes.

“ . . . and now you’re gonna pay the price.” Id concluded as she raised the blade.
