Ash was looking through several books, mainly journals of other Circle members at one time or another. Especially any of the witches, because witches had visions, and visions could bode well or very badly. She was still angry at Angel killing Jaquline so easily, but part of her was also in awe. Jaq wasn't someone who wasn't that easy to kill, but Angel did it without a hitch.
Besides, that move with Jaquline's piercings was priceless.
The vampire with a soul had style. Ash had to admire him for that.
She hummed along with the KoRn CD she had in her player as she was sprawled on the hotel room floor. She sang softly, "I'm feeling like a freak on a leash, feeling like I have no release." She gently paged through the parchment pages as she read the journals. Ash had some journals, but she wasn't much of one to sit down and write down what she did on a day or share her feelings.
She scraped her teeth on her lower lip as she read, "I have had a vision. The end of the Circle I fear." Ash sat up and placed the book on her lap. She read:
Ash's eyes widened as she read on:
Ash flipped the page. It was Angel. Dressed in the black duster floating around him, his head tilted up thoughtfully, his dark eyes narrowed in anger. Even the spiked up hair was right.
"Holy shit," she grumbled as she turned the page. The pages were blank, only reading:
Oh boy. She shut the book and looked away. The CD player skipped on its song and made a strange noise before it played the next song. She stood up and backed away from the book like a dangerous object.
The door knocked, and Ash actually jumped around. "Ash," the British accented voice called out.
She gave a mock sigh, since she couldn't breathe, and walked to the door. She opened it to reveal the ex-Watcher, now vampire, Ian Irons. "Shit, Irons, you scared the living shit out of me," she told the tall English man as he walked into her room.
Irons' looked at her with his green eyes and frowned in concern. He asked, "Are you all right Ash?"
She shrugged and answered, "A little jumpy." She actually liked Irons. He was intelligent, and his British sophistication was a welcome change. One of the things that Ash liked about being a vampire was the constant motion of meeting new people from different lands and cultures. Besides, the British accents were sexy, especially the Irish and Scottish ones.
She said, "Angel gave me a present after he killed Ash."
"Let me guess, her dreadful earings?" Irons asked her with a soft smile.
Ash smiled back and answered, "Yeah. That had some style."
Irons told her, "You see nothing with Damon's seductive ways, and you're head over feet for a man who hasn't even made one move to you, given you one pleasurable glance." He chuckled and shook his head, "In Angelus' heyday he could just look at a woman and she would be down on her knees for him."
Ash got a sudden image in her mind and shook it off, but it wasn't a bad image at all. She asked, her tone teasing, "That bad huna? Would he give Damon a run for his money?"
Irons smiled and answered, "Yes. He has you, and you have very particular tastes."
"Tell me about it," Ash told him with a grin. She tossed her hair from her face and smiled at him. She asked, "Okay, Ian, why are you here?"
"I must have really startled you if you're calling me Ian," he teased back.
She smiled. It was hard to get Irons to crack a smile. Maybe they had some sort of strange kinship, with her being the Slayer of Slayers, and him being a Watcher at one time. She replied, "Well, you did. Some guy, no matter how hot, comes in and delivers a friend's personal possessions after he kills her. So, a girl's gonna be a little jumpie."
Irons smiled then his smile even broadened as he looked at her pile of books. He said, "Ash, you are a surprising one, you know. In the century I've known you, you never cease to amaze me. I would have thought you would wrestle with that horrid machine before you would pick up a book."
"Well, why are you here?" Enough dealing with the pleasantries, Ash wanted to get down to business.
Irons shrugged and answered, "Actually, I was sent to see how you were holding up. Umbra, Hunters, and, I must confess, myself were worried about you, my dear." He studied the paleness of Ash's face. He must have read the fear in Ash's icy blue eyes as he looked into them. What she had seen in that book had frightened her. Who was going to betray the Circle? : Umbra? Irons? The Demon Brat? Hunters himself? Dais? Damon? Or her?
He asked, "So, how are you?"
She shrugged and smiled, answering, "Well, I am more determined to get Angel. The bastard's gonna be mine. And, I'm hungry."
"So a hunting Ash will go?" Irons lightly teased.
Ash walked to her refrigerator and opened it to reveal several dark green bottles full of blood. Human blood from willing donors, in fact, one of the bottles was filled with HIV positive blood. For some strange reason, that comforted Ash. She answered, "Naw, just getting a frozen dinner. Want some?"
