~ Rome, Italy – 16 years later ~

Buffy watched her sister working with her watcher. Her gaze then shifted to Becky who was talking to faith about getting a tattoo. Although she would be forced into stopping that conversation soon she was happy that Becky turned out all right. Xander walked up to her and motioned that they head into the kitchen.

Willow, Xander and Buffy looked at each other uncomfortably for the longest time.

“Okay,” Xander said breaking the uncomfortable silence, “I’m the one who usually says stupid things so I’m gonna say it. Are we going to tell Becky?”

“Tell her what? Technically it didn’t happen.” Willow replied

“Yeah but I think she deserves to know she save the world.”

“It just doesn’t feel right telling her all this stuff,” Buffy said, “I don’t know it’s a hard decision.”

“We don’t” came a voice from behind them

The group turned to see Angel standing casually in the dark kitchen.

“Angel?” Buffy asked curiously

Angel walked to the doorway of the kitchen and looked at the happy teenager

“Look at her. Look how happy she is. This kid doesn’t need to know that for a good chunk of her life she spent her time trying not to die. If anyone deserves this she does.”

Buffy smiled. She knew Angel was right.

“Angel!” Becky yelled out as she rushed up to the vampire to give him a big hug.

“Hey there kid.” Angel said as he moves out into the lounge.

Becky pouted.

“Not a kid.” She replied

Dawn smiled from the couch. She definitely was her daughter.

From his pocket he pulled out a small box and handed it to Becky.

“Happy birthday Becky.”

Becky wildly opened the box.

“Oh my god it’s gorgeous! Thanks Angel.” Becky yelled happily

“It’s ancient Mayan,” Angel replied ruffling the girls hair, ”legend has it who ever wears it will be protected by the angels.”

Becky pulled out the elaborate bracelet from inside and put it on her wrist. Willow wandered out and looked at the present Angel gave Becky. She frowned and shot an accusing look at the vampire, which he ignored.

Becky sat at the dining table and examined her new gift. Buffy sat next to her.

“How’ve you been Becky?” she asks sweetly

“Fine,” Becky replied, “haven’t been sleeping well lately.”

“Why?”

“Well, I keep having these strange dreams about monsters and vampires and these girls are fighting them.”

Buffy smile faded slightly.

“You’ve been having them long?”

“Just the last few nights or so. I think I saw you in one of my dreams once.”

Buffy looked at the girl. She knew all to well what that dream meant because she started to have them at a similar age. Buffy smile grew wider when she realizes that this time. The power won’t be forced onto her. She was chosen

~ Graveyard, Los Angeles California – 6 months later ~

Callie Edwards, Kirsten Ellis and Hanna Greene walked patiently through graveyard. The young women toyed with the stakes in their hands as they stayed alert for any disturbances.

“Girls stay sharp there’s been a lot of weird demon activity around this area.” Callie said seriously

“I hear they’ve been going after slayers,” Hanna commented, “least that’s what Brenda said.”

Kirsten shot Hanna a look.

“You’re not still listening to Brenda?”

“Yeah why?”

“Let’s just say she’s not known for her sanity.”

Hanna shrugs and brushes the chestnut hair out of her eyes.

“I think she’s okay.”

“Okay? She told us the reason she doesn’t use the bathroom at the club is because the evil monkey is trying to get her.”

Now it was Hanna's turn to give Kirsten a strange look.

“I thought she was drunk that night.”

Just then Callie stopped and motioned the other two to do the same.

“Quiet.” She said as she readied her stake

The three women stood quietly as they heard for any sign of movement. After a moment Callie sighed. She walked over and leaned against the nearest tombstone impatiently.

“Go home.” Callie said in a angry tone

Rebecca Summers stepped out from behind the tombstone with a guilty expression on her face.

“I just wanted to watch.” The sixteen year old replied

“Yeah and I want my butt un-kicked by your mom so get out of here.”

“Oh come on I’ll be really quiet I promise.”

“No.”

“Please. I brought a flashlight.”

Rebecca turned on the flashlight and started to scan the area. Callie snatched it off her and switched it off.

“What are you trying to do get us killed? Go home Becky before I call Dawn.”

Rebecca pouted before she turned to leave.

“If I was a slayer I wouldn’t be so mean.” She grumbled under her voice

That was when she heard the growling. She looked up to see a pair of glowing eyes cutting out through the darkness.

“Callie.” Rebecca said nervously

Callie turned and saw the eye. Taking Rebecca by the shoulder she moved her behind herself and the other two slayers. From the darkness the demons stepped forward. They towered over the four of them in a menacing manner as their long robes billowed in the breeze. Callie narrowed her eyes.

“What do want ugly?” she snapped at one of them, “and is that your date?”

“Real smooth Call let’s get the giant monster pissed.” Hanna commented

The demons swung out with their huge arms. Hanna pushed Rebecca to the ground as the other two cart wheeled out of the way.

“Go find somewhere to hide.” Hanna ordered

Rebecca didn’t waste any time. She picked herself up off the ground and bolted out of the danger zone. Hanna flipped back up onto her feet and joined the other two attacking the demon. The fight was intense as the three women spent most of their time on the defensive. Callie kicked out with a powerful front kick then slugged the demon across the jaw. Kirsten wasn’t fairing so well. Every attack she threw to the second demon was either blocked or deflected

There was something wrong with this fight. It was like these demons knew what kind of move they were going to make before they made it. Kirsten threw another punch and the demon caught it. He twisted her arm sharply with a loud crack. Kirsten screamed in pain as Hanna rushed in to back her up but was knocked out of the way. Before Kirsten could recover the demon grabbed her by the head and twisted it.

Rebecca covered her mouth as she heard the snap and saw Kirsten drop to the ground. Callie turned to look at Kirsten's dead body and was smacked over the head by the first demon. She slumped to the ground unconscious. With no backup left Hanna tried to run for it but the demon who killed Kirsten grabbed her by the throat. Hanna kicked as hard as she could as she struggled to breath.

Just then a rock struck that demon on the side of the head. The demon turned to see Rebecca standing defiantly with a small pile of rocks in her hand. She tossed another one at the demon but all it did was look at her with disinterest. Hanna found her moment. With the last strength she had left she swung out with one last kick striking the demon in the groin. As pain shot through the creatures body he loosened his grip enough for Hanna to slip out. Struggling back onto her feet she bolted in Rebecca direction grabbing her forcefully by the arm.

“Come on!” she yelled as they made their way through the grave yard

At what they thought was a safe distance. Hanna watched as the two demons didn’t bother to chase them instead they collected Callie’s body and wandered off. Now Hanna was convinced something was going on.

~ Club Hellmouth, Los Angeles California – 30 minutes later ~

Robin patched up Hanna’s wounds as she sat uneasily on the bar stool.

“So they just picked up Callie and walked off with her.” Hanna explained

“I’ll get Giles on the phone.” Faith said

Robin nodded. Hanna thought back about the attack and frowned

“Something was really off about it.” She said

“What do you mean?”

“The demons only wanted Callie they weren’t really interested in us. and when Becky started to throw stones at it it looked liked it didn’t even care.”

“We’ll look into this okay.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“I’ll see if I can find you another team in the meantime though go get some rest.”

Just then the front door to the club burst open. Dawn stormed in furiously.

“Where is she?” she demanded

Robin and Hanna shared a look before Robin walked over to her.

“In your office,” Robin replied, “go easy on her it’s been a rough night.”

Dawn ignored the last comment as she charged into her office. Rebecca sat sadly in her mothers chair she toyed with a couple of the pens that lay idle.

“Rebecca Joyce Summers!” Dawn snapped

Rebecca jumped at the sound of her mothers angry tone.

“Mom,” Rebecca said nervously, “I’m sor . . .”

“I’m not interested in excuses young lady how many time have I told you not to follow the slayers on patrol?”

Rebecca began to pout again as tears began to form in her eyes. Dawn wasn’t buying it as folded her arms and glared at her daughter.

“How many?”

“All the time,” Rebecca replied, “But Mom . . .”

“No buts Rebecca you are grounded till your grandchildren are old enough to date! Now get in the car”

Sadly Rebecca pulled herself out of the chair and trudged out of the office. Shaking her head Dawn wandered back into the main club and rejoined Robin.

“Honestly I don’t know where she gets it from.” She commented

“you sure?” robin replied, “I seem to remember a certain rebellious teenager who did similar thing back at Sunnydale high.”

Dawn couldn’t help but smirk at the comment. There were time where she involuntarily called him Principal Wood.

~ Hemery High School, Los Angeles California – the next morning ~

Rebecca rested her chin on her hands as she stared blankly at the board. Next to her one of her friends, Rachel Short looked at her with interest.

“You okay?” She asked, “you’ve been kinda wigged all day.”

“Mom yelled at me again last night and it totally wasn’t my fault this time.”

“You’re mom always yells what did you do to her shoot her or something?”

Rebecca smiled.

“I wish, maybe then I could go places without having to call her every five seconds.”

Just then the door to the classroom opened and a man walked in. he placed his case on the desk and walked over to the blackboard.

“Good morning class I am your new English teacher my name is Judson Fox but you can call me Mr. Fox.” Judson said

The class giggled at him. Judson folded his arms and gazed over the class.

“Quiet!” he snapped, “I want you to open your books to chapter three.”

As the class complied Judson watched Rebecca carefully. He decided to monitor her closely while he had a team searching for the star of asgeroth. He wanted to make sure she was safe until the reason she was created can be fulfilled.

Outside Angel stood in the shadows and watched Rebecca through the window. This had been a ritual for him ever since she was born. There was only a hand full of people who remembered the original time line and he had unfortunate position of holding the memories of Angelus. He tortured Rebecca in the first time line. In this one he made it his life’s work to make sure she’s has everything she wants.

“You know a couple more minutes of this and it can be technically called stalking.” Gunn said from behind him

Angel turned to see Spike and Gunn staring at him curiously.

“What are you doing here Angel?” Gunn asked

“You wouldn’t understand.” Angel replied

“Dawn’s gonna go spare if she finds out you’re doin’ this mate.” Spike commented

“But she’s not going to find out is she?”

“Don’t know might get bored one day decide to start talking.”

“Spike!”

“Alright stop this,” Gunn interrupted, “Angel we got a call.”

“From who?” Angel asked

“The pier manager. He said he found a couple women mutilated.”

“Let’s go.” Angel replied

As they walked off Angel turned to look back in the window. He saw Rebecca talking to the teacher but something didn’t feel right. He couldn’t shake the sensation that he had seen that teacher before.

Later that Afternoon Becky waited out the front of the school. This was a anxious moment for her because the car ride with Dawn was going to be tense after what happened last night. a moment later a car pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down to revel Xander smiled at her.

“Xander Harris valet service.” He joked

Becky smiled at him as she collected her bag. She hopped in the passenger seat and looked at the one eyed man strangely.

“Don’t valets usually park cars.” She commented

“Hey I don’t go ‘round poking holes in your jokes.” Xander smirked

Rebecca laughed

“Why are you picking me up?”

“Something came up at the club and she asked me to do it.”

“is it serious?”

“No more than anything else we do.”

They arrived at the club a few minutes later and were greeted by someone unexpected.

“Kennedy?” Xander asked curiously

The feisty brunette looked up from the notes in front of her and smiled at him.

“Hey Xand how’s tricks?” she asked as she hugged him

“Tricks are good what are you doing here?”

“Willow sent me. She said that the new slayer is gonna be called here in L.A.”

“Go us,” Xander replied

Kennedy smirked at him then shifted her gaze down to Rebecca.

“Hey kiddo,” she said

“Hi Ken” Rebecca replied happily

Dawn walked out of her office seriously going over the message willow sent her.

“So Ken,” Dawn said as she looked up “Will’s saying she’s gonna be called in the next few . . . oh hi sweetie.”

“Hi mom,” Rebecca replied

“Got homework?”

“No they said I was too cool for that so they gave it to some geek.”

Dawn gave her the look only a mother can. Rebecca rolled her eyes

“Yeah I do.”

“Do it up on the bar okay I’ll be with you in a minute.”

Rebecca walked over to the bar and pulled out her school books. Xander and Kennedy joined Dawn.

“New slayer huh? Though the activation was supposed to be instant.” Xander asked

“Willow told me it’s because the power has stretched the activation takes a little longer.” Kennedy replied checking her watch, “Hold on the slayer should be active . . . now.”

The three of them heard a loud crash come from behind them. They turn to see Rebecca holding onto the bar with a surprised look on her face. Dawn watched her daughter curiously.

“You okay honey?” she asked

“Yeah I’m good just felt a little weird for a second.” Rebecca replied

The trio looked at each other anxiously.

“What kind of weird?” Kennedy asked

“I don’t know,” Rebecca replied, “it felt like a weird energy feeling, like, all over.”

Dawns face dropped.

“No,” she said softly, “No, no, no. Not my girl.”

Xander and Kennedy shared a look. Awkwardly Xander walked over to Rebecca.

“Hey, ah Beck you wanna follow me for a second.”

“Why?” Rebecca asked

“Just want to make sure you’re okay is all. Come on”

Xander lead Rebecca into the training room. They walked up to a set of weights and Xander pointed to one of the dumbbells.

“Can you lift that up for me.”

Now Rebecca was seriously confused.

“What are you joking?” she asked, “I can’t lift that.”

“Try it.”

Rebecca bent down and gripped the dumbbell. To her shock she lifted it effortlessly. Xander turned to Kennedy and Dawn.

“It’s official.” Xander said

Rebecca looked at the three of them confused.

“What’s going on? Mom?”

“Go back to your homework sweetie.” Dawn said in a serious tone

Rebecca didn’t understand what was going on. She looked to the others for answers but they weren’t giving any.

“Now Rebecca.” Dawn said more insistently

Rebecca trotted out of the room quickly. She was a little disturbed by the fact the Dawn didn’t look at her when she left. When Rebecca was out of earshot Dawn stormed up to the both of them.

“This is not happening.” She snapped

“Sorry Dawn,” Kennedy replied, “Rebecca’s the new slayer.”

Dawn folded her arms anxiously as she paced. Xander looked at her in concern.

“You know she’s gonna be okay don’t you?” he asked

Dawn stopped pacing and looked at him in surprise.

“She’s not going to be okay Xander she’s going to die!”

“You don’t know that.” Kennedy replied

“No,” Dawn replied, “I’ve spent my whole life around slayers I know what the calling does.”

“Yeah but this time it’s different,” Xander replied, “There’s more then one of them.”

Dawns angry expression shifted to fear.

“That doesn’t change the fact that things are going to try and kill her. I don’t want my baby to die.”

Back in the club Robin and Faith entered back in with a few of the slayers. Faith noticed Rebecca leaning against the wall near the entrance to the training room and walked over.

“Hey Beck how’s school?” she asked

Rebecca didn’t reply she leaned against the wall with a horrified expression on her face.

“Jeez are you okay?” Faith continued.

Through the doorway she noticed Dawn standing with Xander and Kennedy. She stormed in

“What the hell is going on?” she asked, “Rebecca’s standing out there completely spooked.”

“We found our new slayer.” Kennedy replied

“Okay who is it?”

Kennedy motioned towards Rebecca. Faith looked from Rebecca to Kennedy in surprise.

“No way. Seriously?”

Dawn didn’t like this one bit. She was far from ready to just let Rebecca go out and get attacked.

~ Rome, Italy ~

Buffy flopped down onto her sofa. It had been a long day of training and she was ready for any kind of sleep that might show up first. She looked up and smiled as she saw The Immortal place a fresh cup of tea on the coffee table. He then walked over to the other end of the sofa, removed her shoes and began to massage her feet.

“Why are you so good to me?” Buffy asked enjoying every moment

“I don’t see as an obligation my love,” The Immortal replied, “I see it as an honor.”

Just then there was a hurried knock on the front door. Buffy dropped her head back her mood broken.

“Whoever that is can you tell them I’m not in.”

The immortal went over to the door and answered it. Willow stood there with an anxious expression on her face which made Buffy sit up sharply.

“Will? What’s wrong?”

“Kennedy’s on the phone for you she’s found the new slayer,” Willow replied handing her her cell phone.

“And you drove all the way here to give this to me?” Buffy replied confused

“You really want to hear trust me.”

Buffy took the cell.

“Hey Ken I’m here with your crazy girlfriend . . . oh you found the slayer well that’s, great, who is it?”

The happy look on Buffy’s face shifted to serious. She sat back down on the sofa.

“Say that again.” She continued

She looked up at Willow who had a similar expression on her face.

“How’s Dawn taking it? . . . Alright me and Will will catch the first plane to L.A. tomorrow.”

~ Club Hellmouth, Los Angeles California ~

“Okay see you then,” Kennedy replied

“That took a while,” Xander commented

“Willow decided to do the call in person,” Kennedy replied, “Anyway Buffy’s on her way.”

Faith watched Rebecca as she attempted to do her homework in the main club.

“Anybody told her yet?” she asked

“No,” Dawn replied, “And nobody’s going to.”

Faith turned to her.

“Say what?” Faith asked

“We’re not going to tell her.” Dawn replied

“I think she’s going to figure it out sooner or later.” Xander replied

“Well . . . if that happens we’ll tell her it’s magic or a demon.”

“Your not serious are you?” Robin remarked, “She needs to know.”

Dawn looked away from the rest of the group desperately trying to fight back tears.

“Rebecca's my miracle,” Dawn replied, “I-I don’t know where she came from but mine and I don’t want to lose her.”

“We feel the same way Dawn but you can’t protect her all the time. If you really want her to be safe let us train her.”

Dawn was in a bind. Part of her knew they were right but she couldn’t fight her own parental nature to protect her child. Something had to be done. Dawn looked up at the group.

“I’ll tell her tonight . . . when we get home.”

~ The pier, Los Angeles California ~

“I just found them like that,” the pier manager said as he led Gunn, Spike and Angel to the bodies, “something tore them up real bad.”

“Why didn’t you call the police?” Angel asked

“We get a lot of demons around here, usually there’s not trouble, but after I found there’s two I know this aint human work and since you guy’s are experts on this stuff I figure I’d give you a call.”

Angel lent over to two horribly mutilated bodies.

“Their main organs have been removed.” He commented

“Well that’s gotta ruin your day,” Spike replied, “any idea what might have done it?”

Gunn scouted around the area. He noticed something reflective. Clearing away some of the sand he pulled out an ornate dagger.

“Yo guy I found something.” He said

Angel took one look at the dagger and knew instantly

“Chaos demons.” He remarked

“Oh bloody hell,” Spike remarked

“What’s a chaos demon?” the pier manager asked

“Think of the worst thing you can think of then give it a step mum.”

“Oh, that bad huh.”

“I never heard of a chaos demon doin’ something this small though.” Gunn commented

Angel looked at the bodies again then something clicked. He recognized one of the faces of the girls.

“I know this one,” he said, “her name was Callie. She’s a slayer.”

“What are the odds that the other girl might be a slayer to?” Gunn replied

“We gotta get back to the hotel.” Angel ordered

Dawn paced anxiously across her living room as Rebecca watched worried.

“What’s wrong Mom? You’re acting kinda weird.”

“Rebecca I have to tell you something,” Dawn started, “and I want you to listen seriously.”

“What?”

“Okay . . . You’re a slayer.”

“Huh?”

“That weird feeling you had today that was you being activated.”

Rebecca took a moment to absorb the news. She leaned anxiously against the sofa.

“So . . . I’m like Aunt Buffy. I’m gonna be trained like the others.”

Dawn kneeled down and held her daughters arms in a caring fashion.

“Not if you don’t want to sweetie. If you just want to go on with your life the way it is that’s fine.”

“Mom your hurting me.”

Dawn loosened her grip and tried to smiled. Rebecca looked at her mothers scared

“Am I going to die?”

“Who told you that?”

“You did,” Rebecca replied anxiously, “you said it to Kennedy and Xander.”

Dawn dropped her head. There was no way she could make this sound any better. Rebecca was more then sensing the tension.

“I don’t wanna die.”

Dawn looked up at her daughter sharply. She hugged her tightly.

“I don’t want you to die either baby.”

This was the last straw for Dawn. She had to do something before it was too late and she could think of only one place where it could be done.
