They're not mine, and we all know it.
Soon after leaving the mansion, Cordelia had worked up the courage to see if her house was still there, and if it was, if it was still hers. She was very relieved to find that it was.
She had explored the Dweeby Cordy’s room with distaste. An expensive looking computer was sitting on the sickeningly tidy desk. There was no sign of makeup anywhere, except for the tube of lip-gloss she found next to a picture of her and Oz with their arms around each other.
A quick examination of the clothes in her closet had caused her to make an immediate decision to go to the mall and pick up some new ones. Luckily her credit cards were valid in this world. < I don’t know what I would have done if the machine didn’t take my Visa, > she thought wryly, thinking of the hundreds of dollars she had spent on the clothes she had bought that day.
It was a tough choice deciding which of the new outfits to wear to the Bronze that night. Cordelia had taken longer than usual to get ready. She had wanted to look especially good, partly because of Xander, but to be honest, largely because she wanted to shed the Willow-like image the Cordy here seemed to have. she thought as she carefully applied her lipstick. < I hate to admit it, but this one may be competition. > But competition against who? Oz? He was a nice enough guy, but he wasn’t the motivation for her actions. Xander? He might still be harboring feelings for his ex, but Cordy was sure she could change that. So no, not Xander either. Harmony? She wanted to be leader of the pack again, sure, but did she want to have that hated status of the “popular” girl? She stopped right there, disgusted with herself. Shrugging off her inhibitions, Cordelia went back to putting on her make-up. she thought, smiling. The competition was for Xander’s attentions, and it was a competition she was going to win. She was, after all, Cordelia Chase.

Cordelia stepped out of the red sports car she was driving, reveling in the stares she received from the people on their way to the Bronze. She suspected that their stares may be partly because she was driving the Bitchy Willow’s car ... the car that was rightfully hers, at least in her world. She stuffed the keys in the pocket of her jacket, defiantly meeting the gaze of all the gawking teenagers. She held her head up high and made sure to swing her hips seductively as she walked to the entrance of the club. She heard a smack behind her as a jealous girlfriend started arguing with her date about the “drool dripping down the side of his face.” Smiling in satisfaction, she went in.

Xander stared at Cordelia as she made her way through the crowd. She looked even more spectacular than she had that morning. The short red dress she was wearing drew attention to her long, tanned legs. Xander couldn’t help but gape. He shook his head to clear it, horrified at his thoughts about his long time best friend. He noted the lecherous expressions of half the male population as they stared at a Cordelia Chase that they have never seen before. He wanted to punch them all in the jaw.
Cordelia was loving the attention. She knew she looked amazing, and she accepted the looks of appreciation coming her way with casual grace. She saw Xander among the crowd, and she smiled and headed his way. She was stopped by Harmony, who as usual, was surrounded by her flock. The blonde girl seemed mad at something, and she glared furiously at Cordy.
“Who do you think you are, Cordelia? What is the deal with you today? Do you think you can shed your geeky image just by putting on a decent ...” She gave another look at Cordelia’s obviously expensive dress. “...a totally cute dress like that? Hey, where did you buy that dress anyway?”
“L.A.” lied Cordelia smoothly. she thought angrily. She was ready to give Harmony a scathing reply and possibly a slap to go along with it ... however, she knew that she had to make friends with the girl to get into the crowd. Being “best friends” with Xander Harris obviously wasn’t enough. She smiled sweetly at Harmony. “Isn’t it just the most darling dress you’ve ever seen? It’s almost as cute as yours, Harmony!”
The blonde preened at the compliment. “I’m glad to see you’re finally showing some taste, Cordelia. I have to tell you, those ratty overalls you usually wear are just so unflattering. This is a better look for you.” Cordy hid her annoyance under a wide-eyed smile she had seen some of her old sheep give her. For the first time she realized that maybe her loyal followers thought the same of her as she was thinking of Harmony right now. That is, she wanted to strangle her.
“I’m glad you like it, Harmony. I decided to throw everything in my closet away. Those clothes were so drab, not to mention totally out of style.” Well, that part was true, anyway.
Harmony carefully examined Cordelia’s hair and make-up. “Well, you look much better now,” she said generously. “In time you might even be considered cool. If you want, you can follow me around tonight and learn how to act in public without embarrassing yourself ... or whomever you’re with.” She nodded to herself, deciding that molding the computer nerd into a socially acceptable human being would be her good deed of the week. she thought with smugly.
Cordelia seethed at Harmony’s words. < I don’t care how mean I was before, I did not treat people like this! I think ... > She debated doing as Harmony suggested, but then saw Xander in the distance, still staring at her. Her quest for popularity would come later, she decided. Xander was waiting. “Thanks so much for the offer, Harmony, but I’ll have to take a rain check. I have to go talk to Xander first.” Without waiting for an answer, she left.
Harmony stared after Cordelia with shock. she thought disdainfully.

Angel saw Cordelia approach Xander and smiled. he thought. He looked down at the Slayer in his arms and smiled contentedly.
Buffy saw him looking at her lovingly. “Happy?”
“This is what I’ve been wishing for.”
