Prologue: The year is 2059, and vampires and other abominations still roam the earth. A Slayer is still needed and used, and one young girl is about to be called in the small city of Sunnydale, California, a.k.a. The Hellmouth.
The powerful vampire called Axelron sat on his throne in the old mansion. Reputation had it that Angelus, the Scourge of Europe had dwelled here at one time. That abomination was a child compared to Axelron's 5,000 years. He was one of the Old Ones. Ready to bring the human world into Darkness, and nothing was going to stop him.
Amanda Wallace slept fitfully in her bed. Nightmarish images clouded her dreams. A tall man with wavy pale blond hair and icy blue eyes drinking from a cup filled with blood. Monsters rising from fiery pits, the dead raising from their graves, glittering fangs, glowing yellow eyes, a book with the word Vamypr inscribed in brilliant golden letters, and death every where.
Then the image shifted to a handsome young man a few years older than her holding a hand out to her and saying, "You're not alone, I'll be there for you." Then she woke up, drenched in her own sweat.
Her father and Amanda had just finished moving all of their stuff into their new home in Sunnydale. Tomorrow Amanda would start attending school at Sunnydale high. That was something Amanda was not looking forward to, not in the least. She had been to all girls' private schools for most of her life, and was terribly shy. She was afraid to meet all of these new people.
Sunlight streamed from the window, and her alarm clock blared. She shut it off and groaned, getting up to get ready for school.
Mike Anderson slowly grudged up to the Hell known as Sunnydale High. Then he caught sight of the most amazing head of hair he had ever seen. It was long, curly ringlets the color of garnets with flaming highlights the sun caught as she walked. He strained his neck to watch her, and her body matched the hair. Perfectly curved, long legs accented by her tight blue jeans, and a white T-shirt straining to hold her curvatious chest. Mike gaped at her, only to fall into a heap on the stair railing.
"Idiot," a familiar voice grumbled above him. Mike looked up and smiled a smile of pure charm, even though it was useless on Jennifer Darkfall. Jennifer had been his bud since she moved here. Jennifer's grey eyes narrowed down at him. She was accualy pretty, but one wouldn't know it under all the layers of flannel she wore, and that she could kick almost any guys ass, and that she had been kicked out of her last school because she had blown up the chemistry lab.
She had long dark blond hair, an elfin face that made her look innocent and helpless, and she was only five feet tall. She looked to be only 12, but she was accualy 16, which really pissed her off too no existent. She shoved her hands into her pockets and glared.
Mike knew he was safe, it was the "You dork" glare, not the "I'm gonna send you to Hell with my bear hands" glare. You should really worry about Jennifer when she got this distant smile on her face, then she got quiet and violent. She told him, "You know your tongue was hanging out of your mouth for everyone to see, especially the new girl."
Mike smiled and said, "Aww, Spooky, don't be like that, she was a total hottie."
Jennifer rolled her amazing grey eyes and replied, "Girls that pretty are usually major bitches, like Kim Jones, hello. You idiot."
"So," Mike asked as he got up, "You've done any naughty hacking in the last 14 hours?"
Jennifer grinned wickedly and answered, "If I tell you, I have to kill you." Mike laughed. Jennifer was a "slacker hacker", a possible future terrorist, a sword fighter, and one of the best friends anyone could have. If Jennifer truly liked someone she would do anything for them, and would protect them at all cost.
They started to walk into the school when Mike's other buddy Gabe Ross joined them. Gabe was tall and gangly with shaggy brown hair and bushy eye brows, not good looking what so ever. As tradition, Jennifer punched Gabe in the arm and said, "Hey Captain Gay!"
Jennifer was very good at insulting people. Gabe rubbed at the sore spot and said, "Hey Mike and Queen Bitch." Jennifer bowed and grinned up at him. Her dad was a nurse, one couldn't embarrass her.
Gabe looked at Mike and said, "New *chic* her dad's suppose to be a doctor or something."
Mike nodded and said, "She looked pretty shway, better looking than Kim."
Despite Kim Jones bitchiness, she was an absolute shway chick, and Gabe drooled at her if she got within a ten foot radius of her. Gabe shook his head and said in disbelief, "No way, that's like breaking the laws of god and man."
Jennifer grumbled, "She's probably a bitch, it's a written law or something." Jennifer, despite her toughness, was subjected to mass ridicule because she was some sort of super brain or something. She made strait A's despite all of her "mishaps" and was the star student at Sunnydale High. She also had her own insecurities which she brought out in the form of smartass quips and jokes.
The warning bell rung. Jennifer cursed loudly and ran for her next class. Gabe did the same. Mike just sauntered into the classroom across from them.
Amanda watched the beaming principal as he shuffled though her transcript records. He said, "Ah, Amanda Lynn Wallace, attended Lion's Head prep in Scotland and Manchester Prep in Boston. An exslemptatory student, a 4.O grade average, several collages, including Yale and MIT are already looking to recruit you. That is a high honor Miss Wallace."
Amanda shifted uncomfortably in the hard chair. She said, "Well, you know . . ."
"Mr. Lette," he supplied.
"Mr. Lette, I just like to learn, that's all," she stammered, she wanted to run more than anything.
Mr. Lette held out a plump hand and Amanda shook it, smiling uneasily. He told her, "We look forward to having you here Miss Wallace."
"Thank you very much sir," she said as she got up. He smiled at her as she made her retreat. Right into a crowded hallway.
She crashed into a tall boy with bright blond hair and big, baby blue eyes. An All-American type. Cute, but nothing to Amanda. She fell to the ground, and he helped her up. He said, "Hi, may I hav . . . *help* you? My name's Mike Anderson."
"Amanda Wallace, and thanks. I'm sorry about the collision, really," she told him.
He shyly beamed as he said, "Oh, it was much fun, we should do it again sometime." Then, as if he realized what he had said, "Um, yeah, I mean, it's good to meet you . . ."
"Amanda. Amanda Wallace," she supplied with a smile.
He ran his hand through his hair and said, "Mike Anderson."
She chuckled, "You said that, and it's good to meet you too."
He said, "Well, maybe I'll see you since we both go here. To school. To class."
She smiled at his nervousness, at least someone was more nervous and shy than she was. She said, "Well, I hope." Then with a cheery wave she started to walk away. She heard him mummer, "Damn, ‘To school. To class.' How lame is that Anderson?"
"Okay, can you tell me how the super virus Elcon came about, it's symptoms and how it is transmitted?" the teacher asked from the head of the class. Amanda looked up from her laptop and raised her hand. The teacher nodded at her and said, "Miss . . ."
"Wallace. Amanda Wallace, new girl," Amanda supplied. Then she answered the question, "The super virus Elcon is made from a triple helix strand of DNA, created in a lab for bio-war fair usage during the World War III by biologist Rebecca Smith by accident in her lab. Not a doctor by any means, the young scientist took her studies to her commanding officer who then took it to the President's top scientists. It is contracted through body fluids, like urine, saliva, semen, and sweat along with drinking water. It has a 12 hour incubation period and it's symptoms include large puss filled boils, bleeding from the mouth, ears and other orifices because the organs are liquefying similar to Ebola, except it is faster and deadlier. Luckily, Smith made and anti-viral serm that also, by accident, cured the common cold, the flu, AIDS, herpes, and Ebola."
Someone behind her snickered, "Look at the nerd."
Someone beside her snapped back, "At least she knows what a virus is, buttmunch."
A sickingly sweet Valley girl said, "Oh look, the brains are in legion."
Amanda looked beside her at her projector. The small, elfin girl snapped, "Yeah, and we'll take you all over." She then looked at Amanda with keen grey eyes beneath a fall of long dark blond hair. She ironically half smiled and then turned to face the teacher.
The teacher said, "Jennifer, Kim, that is enough."
The elf said, "It's never enough with Kim, Mr. Case."
Mr. Case sighed and returned to the board. The girl leaned over to share her textbook with Amanda. Amanda bent over to read as he lectured on. The bell ring and the class got up. The Valley Girl walked past them and stopped.
She was pretty in an airhead sort of fashion, and dressed in the latest style of silver body suit that accented all of her curves. She had long dark hair and hazel eyes. Her skin had the California tan, radiating power and confidence. The short elf stood up and snapped, "Go hell, Kimmy."
Kimmy looked at Amanda and said, "You should know your skanks on site, I'm Kim Jones."
The elf glared. Then she spat, "Yeah, you should listen to the Queen Bitch. It could save your life."
Kim smiled at her and said, "Jenny Darkfall, the poor skank, too smart for her own good. So genius, where's your trip out of here?"
The elf looked like she was about to punch Kim. She sneered, "Up your fat ass, bitch." Kim laughed, which made the elf narrow her eyes more, and trailed out of the room.
The elf smiled up at Amanda and said, "Sorry about that. Ridicule comes with being a slacker hacker."
Everyone now had a vast knowledge of computers, and hackers were a dying breed. Amanda really didn't like the machines, but she could use one. The elf said, "Hi, I'm Jennifer Darkfall, and you're Amanda Wallace. The new girl."
Amanda nodded and asked, "Do you want to eat lunch with me? I don't know anybody, and you and only one other person had been truly nice to me."
"God, you mean you haven't noticed the flock of jocks watching you?" Jennifer asked.
"What?" Amanda asked clueless as she looked around, indeed seeing a group of football and basketball players watching her. Amanda looked down at Jennifer and asked, "Why are they staring at me like that?"
Jennifer answered, "You don't wanna know. Come on, lets get some food, or what passes as food in the cafeteria. If you don't mind being ambushed by Captain Gay and Mike."
"Mike Anderson?" Amanda hopefully asked.
Jennifer nodded, "Yeah, he's my bud in all things. Come, let us pick at nasty food."
With Swarm drinks, bags of mango chips and Cheezy Poofs in their hands, the girls sat by the fountain in the court yard. Jennifer had said that the school had been here since the 20th century, and during the turn of the Millennium, somebody had blown up the library to save everyone from a huge snake creature from Hell. Amanda thought that Urban Legend was the best she had ever heard.
Jennifer said, "Yeah, and there reported to be vampires in Sunnydale. I've only lived here for a few years, but I've seen some wacked things, and the death rate here is pretty massive."
"Oh god, Spooky, you really get into the ‘Bad Vibe of Sunnydale' don't you?" Mike Anderson groaned from behind them. He and a gangly boy with shaggy brown hair and bushy brows slid beside Jennifer on the bench.
Jennifer smiled and said, "Well, you know. This is Captain Gay, Gabe Ross to you."
Amanda smiled and shook his hand. She said, "Hi, I'm Amanda Wallace."
Gabe asked, "Would you like us to publish some dark, deep secrets? What are your turn-ons and turn-offs?"
Amanda giggled as Jennifer said, "You're her turn-off Gabe, you're everyone's turn off."
"Lesbian," he taunted the elf.
Jennifer reached out and socked him hard in the arm. She said, "Don't force me to kick your ass, Captain Gay, because we all know that I can do it."
Amanda looked at Mike and said, "She's a nice person, isn't she?"
Mike shrugged, smiled and said, "Well, that's part of her charm." Amanda nodded, it was.
Mike smiled again and asked, "So you wanna go to the Bronze tonight?"
"The what?" Amanda asked.
"The Bronze, legend has it that a lot of vampire attacks happened there. It's a nightclub built in the late 20th century, and it's still the place to go," Jennifer said as she took a swig of her neon pink drink.
Amanda asked, "Will you be there?" She indicated all of them.
Jennifer shrugged and said, "Yeah, I like to make fun of the idiots."
Gabe answered, "Girl watching."
Mike shrugged and said, "Nothing better to do."
Amanda smiled and said, "Well, then, it's settled, I'll go. But now I gotta jet, gotta go to the library." She stood up, waved and walked away smiling. She was glad that she had fount friends so quickly, exspecaly Jennifer and Mike.
The library accualy had some books in it, not all DVDs and computers. Amanda walked around, inhaling the scent of freshly brewed tea. It was such a British smell that it reminded Amanda of her father. She called out, "Hello, anyone here?"
A tall figure dressed in Tweed with greying brown hair and glasses emerged from the office. He was handsome for someone his age Amanda had to admit and he walked with a refinery that had died along time ago. He smiled at her and asked, "Miss Wallace?"
She nodded and said, "I guess you don't have very many new kids here."
He smiled kindly at her, his blue-grey eyes twinkling. He said, "None as special as you, Miss Wallace. May I entroduce myself, I am Rupert Giles the III."
She shook his hand and said, "I'm not that special, really sir."
He smiled and said, "Yes you are, you're the Chosen One. The Slayer."
"The *what*?" she asked, not understanding.
He said, "Yes, yes, we should of had you earlier, but the best Slayer in history had a most unorthodox training. We have a lot of work a head of us Miss Wallace." He was practically beaming.
"What are you talking about sir?" she asked, still not understanding.
He smiled sadly at her and said, "Well my dear, you need to kill them."
"I'm not killing anyone," Amanda said, sensing this was a good time to retreat.
He nodded and said, "Only you can kill the vampires."
Amanda blinked. This guy was smoking slappers, and he was trippn'. She jetted out of the library.
Amanda forgot all about the incident at the library as she entered the Bronze. It had a keen, vintage feeling to it that Amanda liked. She looked at the ancient pin ball machines as well as the new virtual reality video games that made you feel that you were accualy in an adventure type situation. The most popular were the revamps of 20th century movies such as "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars".
She walked past them, right to the bar. She sat down in a stool right as one of her football playing admires strolled to her. He had a flat face and a nasty buzz cut, and she could smell alcohol on him. He said, "Hey Babe, you're new here aren't you? You wanna dance?"
She was about to protest when he clamped a sweaty hand on her wrist and was about to pull her to the dance floor. A large, pale hand clamped around the football player's mit. Amanda noticed a ring that was on the middle finger. It was sliver, a crowned heart held by two hands. It was an ancient design, Irish, and Amanda was trying to grasp what it was called.
A soft, yet deep voice said, "Sorry, she's with me." There was something oddly familar about his voice. He grumbled something and slid away, leaving Amanda with her savior. She turned to see him and her mouth dropped open.
He was, the most handsome guy she had ever seen. He was tall, with broad shoulders and well built. He was dressed in a metallic black shirt, black jeans and a long black duster. He had spiky dark brown hair and dark, soulful brown eyes deep set in a chizzled face. He said, "Hi, are you okay?"
Amanda smiled and said, "Thanks for rescuing a damsel in distress." He smiled at her once more. He had a nice smile, naturally lopsided and sad. He started to turn away.
"Wait," she called out. He turned to her. She said, "If you're gonna save me, you're gonna have to talk to me."
Angel looked at the girl. He had saved her from a possible attacker, and here she was throwing herself at someone she didn't know. She said, "Please, I'm new here, and I really don't know anyone." That sad deceleration and a pair of huge dark green eyes made him sit down.
She said, "Hi, I'm Amanda Wallace." She had a charming accent. It sounded some where between Scottish and American.
He nodded and said, "Hi, I'm Angel Knight." It was Cordelia who told him that he should list his last name as Knight. He had kept it even after all this time.
She smiled and said, "No wonder you rescued me with a name like that."
He smiled and looked down. Then he looked at her. Was she to be the new Slayer? Whistler had said it would be a tall redhead named Amanda Somethingoranother. She was equsitely pretty, ivory skin and delicately carved features. She had slight sprinkling of freckles on her nose, which made her look human, and not ethereally perfect.
She said, "Thanks, I mean, not everyone would do something like that."
Those words somehow touched him. She said, "I really didn't want to come here. I really didn' t want to be anywhere." She looked around, looking lost and frightened.
He asked her, "Why not?"
She shrugged and said, "It's complected. It's strange."
*Slayer* "You don't have to say anything if you don't want to," he told her.
She sighed and shrugged. Angel sensed two vampires entering the club. He saw them, two lacky fledglings strutting around like they owned the place. he thought as he watched them. Amanda sensed them as well and looked up and around. She looked confused, and startled. Amazingly, like a lost little girl.
He stood up, smiled and told her, "It was nice meeting you Amanda, and I hope we'll meet again." Then he walked to the vampires.
Jennifer Darkfall entered the Bronze and observed it with her usual since of cynicism. A girl dressed in a tight, silver mini-dress whizzed past Jennifer like she wasn't even there. Jennifer shot out, "Cheap hussy!" The girl turned back to her and smiled sadistically. Jennifer shivered and walked away, accualy afraid.
Few things scared Jennifer: obnoxiously cheerful people (for it was inhumanly possible to be that happy), extremely stupid people ( to be that stupid was truly terrifying), cute children's icons {Author's note, think the Teletubies, the evil spawns of satin they are, I have nightmares about them. Evil Teletubies! Die! DIE!}, Mr. Lette, and her father when he was really pissed off. This girl was added to the list.
Mike was playing pool with Captain Gay, she was about to wave at them when Hussy Girl sauntered to them. She could see why she might go to Mike, he was cute, but he didn't do anything for Jennifer, but Captain Gay? Hussy started to flirt with them both, her short bright magenta bob swinging in the dimmed lights of the Bronze. Jennifer started grumbling a string of curses, rolling up the sleeves of her red plaid shirt, and stomping over to them.
Then the most amazing guy that Jennifer ever saw walked in front of her. He was tall, a full foot and inch taller, with broad shoulders. she thought. Spiky dark hair, pale skin, chizled features with a squared jaw and dressed all in black. Her mouth went dry as she watched him. Now those kind of good looks did something for Jennifer.
He started to walk over to the magenta haired hussy when two teen-age biker looking types blocked his way. They glared at each other before the two biker types grabbed him suddenly and drug him outside. Jennifer was about to scream when she saw the Hussy walk out with Gabe and Mike on each arm.
Then some guy was walking out with Amanda. Jennifer ran a hand through her hair and went outside to follow them.
"Angelus, our Master will rule these lands and you will be powerless to stop him," one of the vamps snarled as his face morphed to reveal his true nature. His companion did the same thing.
Angel looked at them both and said, "Now, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way."
The other vamp sneered, "You will die, Angel."
Then he charged at him. Angel grabbed him and slung him into the ground. He clicked the wrist mechanism in his sleeve, sending a pencil sized arrow bareling to the fledgling's heart. The other one went after him as well, and Angel spun around, caught him and steaked him as well. They exploded into clouds of ash right before him.
Then he saw the magenta haired vampire walk out with a teen-age boy on each arm, and one male with Amanda. Then he sensed the presence of five more vamps as they grabbed the potential dinners and ran into the night. Angel was about to go after them when a child fiend tackled him around the ankles.
The demonic little boy snarled and tried to bite him. Angel started to grab a steak when the boy jerked and disentigrated into a pile of ash on his legs. He looked up, exspecting to see Amanda, but instead, he saw a short, elfin girl dressed in 20th century grundge with long dark blond hair, and keen grey eyes. She said, "I knew that Sunnydale was a haven of vampires, but *no*! No one would belive me. The losers."
Angel stood up and looked at her in disbelif as she said, irony thick in her tone, "See, I'm not just Spooky after all. Boca Del Inferno, or whatever. The Hellmouth, but no one ever listens to me."
He asked, "You know about the Hellmouth?"
She shrugged and said, "Hell yeah, this place was so boring when I moved here, and not many files to hack . . ."
"Just tell me what you know about it," Angel cut her off.
She blinked and glared up at him. She said, "Vamps and other nastys are spawned from it or some shit, and that's why there are so many unexsplained deaths that occur. Even though you have to be really creative to find them."
He told her sharply, "Go home."
She shook her head and said, "No, those are my friends, and I'm not gonna let some blood sucking fiend have them."
Angel looked around. They could already be dead by now, unless Amanda's Slayer powers had suddenly manifested. He really didn't have time for this. He grabbed her and lifted her off the ground, snarling, "Listen little girl, you don't know what you are dealing with, so go home." Then, roughly, he shoved her agenst the wall, but not hard enough to hurt her too bad.
He took one last look into her angry grey eyes before he disapered into the shadows.
Jennifer stood up and straitened her plaid shirt. Great, just great. Her friends might be dinner for some shit sucking fiend. Well, if the knight wanted her to go home that was her problem. She whispered, "No ass munch is gonna eat my friends if I can't help it." Then she went to follow the big boy.
Giles grabbed his cross and wooden steak and followed the vampires. His Slayer was in danger, and he was going to have to save her. His grandfather had offen told him stories about his Slayer he had trained and all the monsters they fought. Rupert Giles the I had even endured torture to save her. Giles hoped he could live up to his grandfather's reputation.
Then he saw the broad shouldered young man dressed all in black following the vampires. It couldn't be. But it was. Angel was back in Sunnydale in over half a century. Giles had heard tales of the souled vampire from his grandfather, how he had went to Hell and back for the love of the Slayer.
Giles started to stalk the vampires silently along the good vampire.
Amanda didn't like being drug agenst her will to who knew where. Mike was beside her, being toted by a magenta haired hussy in a silver mini-dress that was two sizes two small. Gabe looked around, lost and frightened. Then they stoped in front of this huge fortress-like mansion. Amanda gasped as they were drug into it.
They were drug into the main room where a tall man with wavy pale hair and icy blue eyes was drinking from a cup filled with blood. It was the man from her nightmare. He was handsome in a strange sort of way, but there was an evil bloodlust that surrounded him. Amanda could feel it, it rang in her head.
He looked at them and smiled. He said, "Ah, the new Slayer. Poor thing, she'll die before she'll ever get to slay a vampire."
"Vampire," Amanda dully whispered as she watched him.
"Ah, your Watcher approached you and you didna belive him," his accent was Scottish, which made Amanda even sicker.
He drifted even closer, inspecting her closely. He simply said, "You're prettier than the last Slayer."
"Get away from me!" she shouted, not wanting to be anywhere near him or his feeling of bloodlust.
Streanth surged up in her body as she punched the guy beside her. She felt instenctively in the fight, taking down four of them before the magenta haired hussy and a big guy penned her to the ground. He knelt down infront of her, tracing her cheek with an icy finger.
She flinched and tried to jerk away, shutting her eyes tightly. "Get the f*** away from my friends ass munch!" Jennifer Darkfall's voice rang out though the mansion walls.
Amanda turned to see the elfin girl stumble into the room, dust covering her from head to toe. She said, "It's time for a round of stomp ass, boys."
She rushed into the frey, unheeding of the danger. One of the guys swept around and threw her to the ground. Amanda watched in horror as his face transformed into something horrible. Fangs gleamed and golden eyes blazed.
The leader said, "You may have the elf, she is of no use to me."
"Yeah, but elf blood can be very hazardous to a vampire's health," a familar voice rang out. Angel walked into the room like he owned it, looking very much like his namesake as his black duster drifted around him. "Yes, and let the children go," Rupert Giles the III's voice nervously called out.
Angel looked at him for a moment, confusion dawned in his eyes, Amanda hoped that it wasn't going to hinder him. Jennifer snaped her leg into the vampire's groin. He bowed over, she took the moment's weakness to kick him in the head. She sprang back and looked around.
Amanda watched in amazement as Jennifer shouted, "Give me a cross!" Giles blinked and tossed her a large steel crusifix. Jennifer held it out infront of her like a gun. She was driving the vampires away.
The magenta haired girl hissed, Jennifer thrusted the cross into her face and said, "I don't think so bitch." The girl's face started to smoke as she cried out and jerked away. She colasped to a ball on the floor and sobbed histericly. Jennifer mummered, "Stupid ho, teach you to mess with my best friend."
Angel, who Amanda didn't even see move, was methoticly fighting vampires. He shouted, "Get Amanda out of here!"
Jennifer sneered, "Okay you unholy spawns from Hell, come get some." One got majorly pissed because she said that and charged at her, snarling with fangs flashing and eyes glowing. She gripped the cross and swong her arm, punching the vampire with the cross. He howled as he rolled away.
Amanda stood up and shoved one of the vampires with her newfound streanth into another one. She grabbed Mike's hand as the leader shouted, "Get them!" More vampires moved into the room. Jennifer grabbed them and started to pull them away.
Before Amanda knew what was happening she heard Angel cry out. She turned around to see a large cut running from his shoulder to his hip from a vampire armed with a wicked knife. Angel gritted his teeth and returned the favor with a wooden steak. The vampire looked shocked as Angel stabbed his heart.
Amanda watched in amazement as he exsploded into a cloud of greyish ash. Angel didn't even look fazed by it as he did the same with another one. She noticed something though, he wasn't moving as quickly as he was before and he was holding his side. He started to run twards him as Jennifer renewed her pulling and Giles got to their sides. Before she knew it, they were running out of the mansion and into the streets.
As they ran Amanda looked at Angel. He was holding his side, he needed a doctor. Jennifer asked, "Where do we go?"
Giles answered, "To the school, quickly!"
Amanda swore she heard Angel mummer, "Some things never change."
