At the hospital, Buffy and Spike went looking for Laura and Ryan.
“We wanna take her home. There’s nothing anyone can do for her here. She’ll be better at home,” Spike said.
Ryan looked at Laura. “They’re right. Dawn will heal faster at home,” he said.
“Laura I’m tired and I wanna go home but I cant leave Dawn here,” Buffy said, softly.
“Fine. She can go home but she needs to be watched closely,” Laura said.
Buffy leaned against Spike. “Thank you,” she whispered. She looked up at Spike. “Lets go tell her.”
Dawn was asleep when they entered and Spike laid a hand on Buffy’s shoulder. “Let her rest,” he whispered. “We can take her home when she wakes up.”
Buffy nodded and went to her own bed. Spike sat next to Dawns bed and rest his head next to her. Buffy smiled as Spike stroked her hand as he began to fall asleep.
When Dawn woke she smiled at Spike’s sleeping face. She rested her hand on his hair and ran her fingers through it gently.
Spike sighed and his eyes fluttered open. “Hey, Nibblet,” he said.
“I wanna go home,” she said.
Spike smiled. “We didn’t wanna wake you but you can go home,” he said, not wanting to wake up Buffy.
Dawn looked at her sister. “You could’ve slept over there with her, you know,” she said.
“I wanted to sleep here,” Spike said.
“Well you should get sleep when we get home. I know you don’t sleep well here,” she said.
“I didn’t wanna take any chances, Nibblet,” he said.
“I know,” Dawn said. “I know you’re just trying to protect me and I don’t think I would’ve made it this far without you.”
Spike smiled. “You know, I’m not just here because Buffy asked me to. I love you and I’m never gunna leave you,” Spike said, fondly.
Dawn’s eyes filled with tears at his voice. “I love you too. I loved you before Buffy even know you were on the same planet.”
Spike wiped her tears. “I loved you and your mom before Buffy was anything more then the slayer,” he whispered, going over to Buffy’s bed. “Pet?”
Buffy stirred as Spike’s fingers slid down her jaw. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled at
him. “Hi.”
“Dawn’s ready to go home,” Spike said.
Buffy climbed out of bed and looked at her sister. “Do you think you can walk? Or do you want a wheelchair?” She asked.
“I think I’ll be okay,” Dawn said, sitting up.
Spike held his hand out to her and helped her out of bed. “Come on. The car’s right out front,” he
said.
At the house, Dawn was exhausted. Buffy helped her upstairs with Spike right behind her.
“Spike, you can sleep in my room while I get Dawn settled,” she said. “Willow did a spell to get rid of the scents.”
Spike smiled. “Just yell if you need help,” he said, disappearing into Buffy’s room.
When Buffy came into her room, Spike was sound asleep. His clothes were on her chair, folded except for his jeans which Buffy assumed he was still wearing.
He was laying on his stomach, his arms around her pillow and he was purring.
Buffy stripped out of her clothes and climbed under the comforter.
Spike’s arm went around her waist and he moved his head to her chest. “I love you,” he mumbled.
“I love you too,” Buffy said, falling asleep.
