Spike went over and climbed in next to Buffy. She wrapped her arm around him as he sobbed quietly. “We’re okay,” she soothed. “We’re okay.”
“I could’ve been there,” Spike whimpered. “The one night we decide not to see each other and this is what happens.”
Buffy kissed his hair. “Don’t say that. It’s not your fault. If we had been at your crypt, this of what he could’ve done to Dawn,” she said.
“I should’ve killed him,” Spike said, into her chest.
“No. Riley may have violated me and Dawn but he is human. There are ways of dealing with him,” she said. “I’m taking him to court and he will pay but you will not stoop to his level.”
Spike picked his head up to look at Dawn. “She looks so weak. No one has ever bested her since I’ve been taking care of her,” he whispered.
“Whaddaya mean?” Buffy asked.
“I trained with her and shed always won,” he said. “Against anyone.”
“She was probably to scared to even think, Spike,” Buffy said. “He didn’t give me time to gain my senses to kick his ass.”
“Yeah, but if I had been there I could’ve done something. He certainly wouldn’t of raped you,” Spike said.
“Spike stop. Look at me,” she said, softly. Spike looked at her with a guilty gaze. “Don’t you dare blame yourself. It’s not your fault.”
“Buffy,” Spike sighed.
“No,” Buffy said, placing her finger on her lips. “If you had been there you and I would’ve been asleep in each other’s arms. All he would’ve had to do was open the door and get angry. He would’ve done it to Dawn. Spike, its better me then her. I can handle that. Dawn probably wouldn’t have been so lucky,” she whispered.
A few stray tears slid down Spike’s face.
Buffy wiped them away tenderly. “What are those for?”
“The thought of losing either one of you is unbearable,” Spike whimpered. “You for a second time would kill me inside. Losing Dawn at all would be like losing my own daughter. Never forgive myself,” he said.
Buffy sniffled. “Come on. Lay down and try to get some sleep. There’s a guard outside the room 24/7,” she whispered.
Spike eased beside her and watched Dawn. “Where are you gunna call the gang?”
“After questioning,” Buffy answered. “Now, please get some sleep.”
Spike sighed shakily and closed his eyes. “Goodnight, pet,” he mumbled.
“Goodnight Spike,” she whispered.
The next morning there were two female detectives in Buffy and Dawn’s hospital room. Buffy told Spike to call the gang while the girls talked to the detectives. Spike was happy to get out of the room and stretch his legs. He got some blood and had something to eat before calling the gang.
Willow and Tara were the first to arrive. “What happened?” Willow asked.
“Riley attacked them. They’re with detectives right now so we have to wait ‘til they are done,” Spike said.
Tara frowned. “Are you okay? You don’t look like you got much sleep,” she said, gently.
“I didn’t,” Spike admitted. “Buffy got me to fall asleep for a little while but I woke up to keep an eye on Dawn.”
Tara smiled. “That’s good but you should try and rest,” she said. “How bad are they?”
“Dawn has 4 broken ribs, a broken arm, and a bruise. Buffy has broken ribs, her arm’s broke in 2 places, her neck hurts, and some internal injuries,” Spike said, softly.
He noticed the detectives come out of the room and Spike went toward them. “Are you Spike?” One of them asked.
“Yes,” Spike answered.
“Mrs. Summers wanted you in here while we talk about what would happen to Riley Finn,” she said.
“Okay. Ladies in a minute you can see them,” he said to Willow and Tara.
Tara smiled and Spike went into the room.
