Niki awoke to find herself nestled against Xander, her stirring waking him from his sleep. He looked at her with a worried expression on his face asking, "Are you alright? Do you hurt? Can I do anything?"
Now it was Niki's turn to reassure. "Nope, I feel fine." Then she looked into his concerned eyes saying, "Xander, thank you", before planting a quick kiss on his lips.
* Oh migod! I just kissed Xander! *
* Oh migod! Niki just kissed me *
They each only had a second to digest their thoughts before they drew closer together, embracing in a passionate kiss.
Buffy stood in the doorway smiling, as she watched her two friends curled up in each other's arms, kissing. "Huhumm. Hope I'm not interrupting anything guys, but I really don't think that your nurse is going to be too pleased when she sees your definition of bed rest Niki."
Niki and Xander broke apart with a start.
"Ahh, yeah Buffy." Xander replied as he got out of Niki's bed.
Buffy looked at the two of them, * Geez if the two of them would only stop gazing longingly into each other's eyes! * "That's right Xander, we wouldn't want any nurse wondering why Niki's in the arms of a guy who isn't the 'fiancé' who brought her in last night. I hate to be the one to bring it up, but until we get you out of here Giles thinks we should just let the staff think that. Sorry." she spoke to Niki, shooting her an apologetic glance. She didn't want to be the one to bring up Spike's involvement but it was better than having hospital staff pay any particular attention to them.
"So how are you feeling?" She asked, thankful to be able to change the subject.
"I'm feeling great. Think there's anyway we can convince my doctor to let me out this morning?"
Giles, who had caught Niki's remark as he entered the room, answered her; "I think the hospital staff might be a little suspicious if a girl who only got out of emergency surgery last night was let out first thing this morning. Perhaps it might be more beneficial if you could feel rather 'exhausted' today. That way they won't question the rate at which you're healing. Speaking of which, how's your arm?"
"I dunno, I haven't even seen what it looked like when they brought me in, do you want me to undo the bandages and take a look? What do we do if the nurse tries to take a look at it? Giles I don't want to have to explain why the arm that caused me to be raced in here last night to have emergency surgery has healed already."
"Are you sure?" He asked the girl.
"As sure as I can be without looking. It doesn't hurt at all and I can move it just fine. Giles, I'm thinking that if Willow could 'adjust' my hospital records so that I can get out of here now it'd be a very good idea."
"I see. Buffy if you could perhaps contact Willow and see what she can do. I'll make sure no nurse gets a look at Niki's arm until she's done.
"No prob." Buffy answered as she headed out the door. Not before she gave Xander a knowing glance and adding, "Xander, you should probably stay here with Niki, just so that she's not alone at any time."
Oblivious to Buffy's real meaning Giles just nodded his head and went to take a seat outside Niki's room.
"Hey mister" Niki said. "I'm not sure I got all that stuff you were saying to me before Buffy got here. Perhaps you ought to run it by me again."
"Anything you say." Xander replied, wapping his arms around her and once again kissing her tender lips.
Giles' coughing in the doorway brought them both back to reality some time later. "I'm sorry to interrupt the two of you, but Willow has finished with Niki's file and I think it would be best if we were perhaps to leave now."
"Right G-man" Xander answered as he helped Niki out of the bed. "Let's get you home and out of this dreary hospital" he said to the girl he was holding.
