Niki's house 6.55pm

Niki thought as she climbed the stairs to her room. * There's no way I could carry this out if I had to worry about blood stains on a rented apartment carpet. Oh please make this work. * she thought, as she opened her window and sat down on her floor. She knew this would get his attention, god knows why but she and Spike had always shared a link, she'd never told anyone, not even Angel. He knew to meet her here she'd made sure of that, it hadn't taken too much. Once she'd gotten home she'd focused her energies and sent him a message. It had taken her decades to learn but learning to send messages to the one you're prophesied to join had probably been a pretty good investment of time she decided. She knew he wouldn't be able to leave her sitting there if she was in pain. She looked up at her window sill as Spike arrived, "Nice to see you're punctual." she said, noting the clock read 7.00pm. "Hope you don't mind the intrusion into your night life but don't worry this won't take long" she continued as she hit speed dial and got Buffy's beeper. * Here goes nothing * she thought as she grimaced and picked up the kitchen knife she'd brought up with her. She drew the knife down the inside of her wrist, feeling her warm blood run down her arm and onto the floor. * God my carpet cleaning bill is going to be huge she thought. * She looked up into Spike's eyes seeing the pain she knew was reflected off her own. " Tough luck Spike. There's nothing you can do. You're not invited in, so I guess this means I get to die without having to worry about you turning me into a soulless demon like yourself. I guess I finally ruined that whole marriage prophecy thing, huh." She took one last look at the shocked expression on his face, before crumbling into unconsciousness next to the pool of blood already forming on her floor.

Spike could hear her heartbeat growing weaker the longer she lay on the floor. She was right, she hadn't invited him in, but no bloody way was that going to stop him from saving her. Spike focused his energies and delved deep into Niki's subconscious. He'd learnt a few things over the past century or so and communicating with her subconscious mind wasn't all that difficult anymore. * Niki, Niki sweetheart. I need you to answer me. *

* Spike, I'm hurting. Oh God it hurts Spike. Help me Spike... please. *

* Niki, you have to invite me in, I can't help you if you won't let me in. *

* I can't Spike, you know I'm not allowed to. *

* Niki, please, I have to help you. You need me. You have to let me in. *

* Okay, Spike, you're, invited . . . . . * she didn't finish as she slipped further away and out of his reach.

"Damn!" he cursed. * Why hadn't she finished. 'In' that's all the was left, 'In'. Oh well we have to take what we can get and that sounded like a bloody good invitation if you ask me. * He jumped in through her open window, picked up Niki off the floor and ran down the stairs with her. He grabbed the phone and dialed 911. "Hello, My fiancé's unconscious. She was attacked by some animal and she's bled a lot. I need an ambulance at 87 Crescent road. Hurry, I can barely feel her pulse !"

He hung up the phone and proceeded to examine Niki's wrist. The cut she'd made along her wrist had healed over already. * Great * he thought, * now I need an injury that her body isn't gonna bloody well heal before she gets to hospital. Though in her current state I doubt she'll be able to heal anything. Oh, well rather be safe than sorry. * He picked up her wrist and arm slashing at them with his nails/claws. Grabbing a tea towel he wrapped up her arm applying as much pressure as he could without snapping her bones. * Where's that bloody ambulance. * He picked her up and ran out the front door, waiting for the ambulance to arrive. He rode beside her in the ambulance holding her uninjured hand as they drove to the hospital. When they rushed her in for an emergency blood transfusion he waited outside the room in a state of dispair, hoping and praying that she would be alright.

"Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams."

The voice woke him from his thoughts, * Williams, that's the name I gave when I checked Niki in. *

He turned to face the doctor who was trying to talk to him,. "Is she, is she going to be all right?" Not that he didn't already know, he'd heard her heartbeat when it kicked back into a regular rhythm.

"She's going to be fine, If you want, you can go in and see her now. She's still unconscious at the moment, but we're expecting her to wake up any minute now."

Spike walked into the room where Niki's motionless form was lying. He picked up her hand an held it in his; comforting himself as he felt her blood flowing through her body and heard her once again strong heartbeat. * Why don't you understand Niki * he thought. * I could never let anything happen to you. Never! * Her slight movement as she started to regain consciousness snapped him out of his thoughts. * Will she ever freak out if she wakes up and finds me sitting here holding her hand. Guess this means it's time to go home * with that thought in his head, he lent over, kissed Niki gently on the lips, picked up his jacket and left the building.
