Buffy and Angel were on patrol in the park. They were discussing that whole Niki 'Distracting' Spike and not surviving topic. Angel turned to Buffy, "It's not that I doubt her talent when it comes to killing vampires, it's more like I'm worried about the whole if she can handle facing Spike aspect of this."
"What do you mean, 'If she can handle facing Spike' what is it that you two haven't told us?"
"Well, Niki asked me never to tell you guys, but I think the time has come when you should know. I'll tell you and you can decide if you want to tell the others. Niki didn't come about as a normal vampire. Her creation was prophesied."
* Oh great * thought Buffy, * just what I need, another stupid prophecy *
Angel continued, "Niki is Spike's fiancé."
"What!" yelled Buffy, "It only occurred to you now that this itsy bitsy detail might be of some importance!"
"Buffy, wait" Angel said, "Let me finish. At least that's what she was created to be. I may have been the one who killed her but it was all in a prophecy stating that Spike and Niki would one day reign hand in hand as Master and Mistress. Anyway, her Grandmother's intervention right after she was killed really soured that plan. I guess it's just that prophecies are rarely ever completely foiled, misinterpreted yes, but they're never completely wrong." The only thing that brings me some comfort is knowing that her soul is permanent and that no matter what Spike cannot change that."
* Oh boy, oh boy, is Giles gonna love hearing this one * Buffy thought as they continued with her patrol.
Next Day - Library
"Why didn't you tell me you and Spike had some unresolved issues! You know like unfinished marriage prophesies!!" Buffy yelled at Niki. She'd just walked through the door to find the Slayer, watcher, vampire boyfriend and the Slayerettes crowded around the table arguing about what she could only guess was the prophecy.
"Um, I take it this means you're not interested in how my date last nigh went. It was kinda mundane, but thanks for asking anyway." She looked around the room before continuing, "I'm guessing this means blabbermouth over there in the corner couldn't keep his mouth shut" Niki replied, shooting an icy stare in Angel's direction.
"Just because you're not going to let me stop you from taking on Spike, doesn't mean I'm not going to warn Buffy of what might happen, maybe you'll listen to her if she tells you to forget this whole stupid idea." Angel answered.
"Look, does nobody get this, I'm not going to 'Take On' Spike! I'm going to distract him enough so that Buffy can go in, kill Dru and get back out again without being killed by Spike. Okay, so calm down, I'm not even going to be anywhere near their hideout, my job can be carried out in my own bloody house."
"What are you planning to do, seduce the guy." Cordelia interrupted.
"Yeah funny! Are you happy now!? I'm not planning some suicide mission here, I'm just trying to keep you all alive. I don't have time for arguments" she said turning to face Buffy.
"Tonight hang around outside their hideout until I beep you, the rest of you go and help Buffy. She'll need to get past the guards to get to Dru. And don't worry Spike won't be anywhere around. Now, if you'll all excuse me I've got some preparation to do. With that she picked up her bags and headed off to her apartment. * I'm so glad I've got my own place, I wouldn't be able to do what I'm planning if I lived at home with my family. Oh great I've found the only upside to having no family - you can take on vampire kings without any interruptions! *
Xander was the first to speak, "I guess this means that once again our Bronzing plans are being postponed."
"She'll be alright Buffy. Niki knows how to look after herself." Willow said
"Yeah, I mean you'd think after a couple of hundred years you'd get the whole 'surviving' thing down pat" Xander piped up.
"Well then, since we all seem to be in agreement that Niki is going to go ahead with whatever her mad plan is, whether we like it or not.I suppose we should get ready for tonight. Buffy and Angel," Giles said turning to face them, "you two will be in the lead. Xander, Willow, Oz, Cordelia and I shall occupy ourselves with watching your backs. I should hope that by now I don't have to remind everyone to bring plenty of stakes, crosses and holy water. Right then, we'll all meet back here at 6pm." Angel, if you could, I rather need to talk to you once everyone's left." He received a short nod from Angel and continued, "In that case, I'll see the rest of you tonight.
Once Giles and Angel were left alone in the Library Giles ventured to ask "I don't suppose you would have any idea just what it is that Niki has got into her head to carry out tonight?"
"I only wish. God that girl is too stubborn for her own good. It's too late now to worry about her, knowing Niki she's got everything already figured out. Our job for tonight is to help Buffy defeat Dru and pray that Niki's still around to congratulate us when we're finished."
Giles lifted his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. * As if the stubborn Slayer wasn't hard enough to deal with, now he had another one who wouldn't even divulge her plans before running off to carry them out. * Realization dawned on him, "Angel, what's the only reason you can think of that Niki wouldn't tell us what she was planning to do?" he asked.
"There's only one and I know it's that we'd stop her from carrying out her plan. I only hope she makes it out of this one alive. I'd go over there and stop her but I also realize that she's right, the only way Buffy will be able to kill Druscilla and survive is if someone distracts Spike, and unfortunately her current 'engaged to' status makes her the only one who can"
