Angel and Niki were sitting in the Library arguing when Buffy walked through the doors. "I'm not going to argue with you over this Angel. You know that this is what I have to do!!"
* Oh boy. * Thought Buffy, * just what I need, these two to be at each others throats! * In the last month since Angel's soul had been restored things were starting to get back to normal, usually Niki and Angel always backed each other up. * Guess that's what you get when you share blood and souls *, but these last two days whenever they thought no-one was around they'd been fighting with each other. Over what, Buffy had no idea, but she'd decided the time to know was now. "Okay you two, just what the hell is going on? Why the, we'll pretend like were not fighting but whenever we get the chance we'll turn on each other routine. As if living on the hellmouth didn't complicate life enough, now I've got to deal with you two and your silly argument! So spill what's got the two of you so riled up?"
"Nothing Buffy" Niki answered glaring at Angel. "Angel just can't handle the fact that just because he doesn't like the idea of me facing Spike doesn't mean that it's not gonna happen."
"What are you talking about Niki?" Giles interrupted, "What's this about you facing Spike and why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Sorry Giles, It's just when Angel and I found the prophecy we kind wanted to discuss it before we showed it to you guys. Look I'll show you what I mean, we were going through the Codex when we found this," passing Giles the book, "It's a prophesy about how Buffy has to take on Druscilla. Well to be technically correct, Buffy gets to take out Dru and I've got to tackle Spike. But unfortunately Angel doesn't think it's a good idea."
"Well I have to agree with him" Giles answered. "The two of you aren't prepared to go into battle yet."
"Minor problem there Giles, If we don't you all die." Now I can't be sure but I'm guessing it'd be nice if you, Xander, Willow, Cordelia and Oz could hang around for just a bit longer."
"I think she has a point Giles." Xander piped up. Niki, Buffy, Angel and Giles turned to see Xander, Willow, Cordelia and Oz standing in the doorway.
"Sorry to interrupt, but we kinda couldn't miss the part of us all being killed off sometime in the near future" Willow said, "Care to fill us in?"
"My turn" Angel said before Niki could start up again. "There's a prophesy in the Codex that predicts the death of those who surround the Slayer if she doesn't win a battle with the 'Vampire Queen', Niki and I figured this must mean Dru. So now Niki has it in her head that the only way for Buffy to be ensured a win is if Spike isn't around to help Dru. So she's planning to take on Spike"
"Oh goody" said Xander. "We're gonna be free of them both by the end of the week, what a way to start the weekend!!"
"Not quite," Angel interrupted, Although the Codex said that Dru might be defeated it clearly stated that 'the king', i.e. Spike wouldn't be."
Buffy turned to Niki saying "And when did you plan to tell us that you were gonna go on a suicide lets-go-piss-off-Spike mission. It isn't gonna happen Niki!"
Niki turned to look at the people she now regarded as her closest friends, noting the concerned looks on their faces. "Sorry guys but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! And anyway I'm not exactly going to go up against Spike, just distract him a little. I'll distract Spike, Buffy kills Dru and you all get to live -sounds pretty good to me! I'll probably be back before you know it with no more than a few bruises." Before anyone could interrupt her she continued "Well before this conversation can get any morbid I've gotta head off, hot date tonight, gotta go get ready." With that she picked up her gear and headed out the door.
After she left everyone was left in silence contemplating Niki's remark. The chances of someone taking on Spike and surviving weren't all that promising. They sat there thinking about the girl they'd come to know so well since she'd arrived and given up her immortality so that Angel could have his soul back.
"At least she's still part vampire." Cordelia mentioned hopefully, "That's gotta give her some chance."
"Yeah Cordy's right" Xander said. "We're not talking about some inexperienced nobody here, she did take on Angel and survive, yeah that's it maybe she ends up giving Spike back his soul."
Buffy sat there knowing he was just trying to make it easier for her, he knew how close she and Niki had become since she first arrived. Buffy picked up her patrol gear, at least staking a few vamps would take her mind off this. "I'm gonna head off on patrol" she said. "I'll meet you all here first thing tomorrow morning to discuss this 'prophesy'.
They all split up for the night, Xander and Cordelia each headed off for a night at the Bronze -just because they weren't dating anymore didn't mean they couldn't have social lives. Willow and Oz headed to Willow's house to study and Angel accompanied Buffy on her patrol, leaving Giles behind to find all he could on this prophecy and try to figure out the best thing to do.
