April was anxious to go home, but there was no way that Celia would let her out with the couple still sipping coffee in the corner. They were chatting quieter now, so April could no longer make out what they were saying, but she was very interested.

As the clock on the wall edged its way toward midnight, April poked her head into the back office. Celia was slumped over the desk nervously filling out mounds of complicated paperwork. Tapping gently on the door frame, April waited for Celia to notice her.

The little brunette jumped up, whirling around to face April. Her heavy makeup aged her well beyond her twenty-five years.

“Hey, I was just thinking that I’d get outta here as soon as these people leave ok? I’m off in a few anyways,” explained April. Celia gave her an approving nod and bent back over her paperwork.

Thirty minutes later, and the couple still had not left. They were checking their watches frequently and eying the door as if they expected someone else. Soon Celia came out from the back and announced that she would be taking a short break. She was going out back to have a smoke.

The seconds ticked by and April was getting irritated. Just as she was about to demand that the late nighters pack it up and head home, the bell above the door jingled, signaling the entrance of another patron. This was a man with bleach blonde hair and a long black trench coat.

He ignored April completely and sat down in the corner with his companions. Fighting an exasperated sigh, April set to wiping down the espresso machine for the fourth time in twenty minutes.

She was tossing a dirtied rag into a soapy bucket when she heard a loud noise. It sounded like a banging coming from the back of the café. Her customers had noticed too, but they were far more intrigued than she was, exchanging worried glances.

Then, April heard something that made her blood run cold. A woman’s high pitched scream echoed through the café. Celia was shrieking from behind the shop. Most terrifyingly, the shrieking was gradually getting quieter and quieter, as if she was being taken further and further away.

Without a thought, April rushed for the back door. Wrenching it open, she saw as Celia was stuffed into the back seat of a black sedan. Her breath catching in her throat, April ran for the car. Her foot slipped on the wet concrete as she crashed to the ground. When she looked up the car was pulling away, with Celia bound in the back seat.
