Disclaimer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy herself, and any other related characters or places are the sole property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, and the WB. The character Erik and this story are my own ideas and I would like to keep it that way... unless of course the people at BtVS would like to buy them.

Part Four

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy rushes into her bedroom slamming the door behind her, 'I'm glad mom isn't home, I really don't feel like talking with anyone.', she thinks to herself.

"What am I gonna do?", Buffy asks herself little while knowing that she is not alone.

"I was asking my self the same thing", a man's voice says.

"Who' there?", Buffy asks as she turns on a lamp, "Erik? Where did you run off too earlier?".

"I had some thinking to do about myself, and... us", Erik replies as he walks towards Buffy who replies, "I've been thinking too..." She moves towards Erik to kiss him but he holds her back and says, "We can't do this, not now... not when you've got Angel back."

"I'm with you now and that's all that matters", Buffy says as she tries to kiss him again, but again he holds her back to say, "I care about you a lot..."

"But", Buffy says.

"But Angel needs you", Erik finishes as he thinks, 'I need you.'.

"What about what I need!", Buffy barks.

Erik thinks, 'What the hell.', as he grabs Buffy in an embrace that makes her melt. They gaze into each others eyes and kiss for what seems like an eternity until Erik breaks it off and asks, "I've gotta go,... tomorrow night at the Bronze?".

"Yeah, sure", Buffy replies as Erik exits through the windows, "Why is love so complicated?", she says to herself.

"I don't know, you tell me", Angel says as he comes through the window, "So, I take it that was Erik who just left."

"Yes it was... what are you doing here anyway?", Buffy asks.

"I thought that we should talk", Angel replies.

"About what?", Buffy asks.

"Us", Angel answers.

"I can't talk about this right now..", Buffys starts to reply when Angel interrupts, "Are you saying that its over between us?".

"No. I'm not saying that... I'm just saying that I need some space right now", Buffy answers as she sits down on her bed.

"Space,... so you can spend time with Erik, right?", Angel says turning his back to her.

"What do you want me to do? I can't change the way I feel about Erik or the fact that he helped me through a rough spot", Buffy says.

"You have to choose, it's either me or him", Angel says. 'I can't believe he's making me choose!', Buffy thinks and then replies, "I already made my decision and if I wasn't clear the first time, I need some space."

"I think I should go", Angel says as he heads towards the window.

"I think you should", Buffys says as Angel hesitates at the window, 'What happened to us?', he thinks as he leaves. Not being able to hold in her emotions any longer, Buffy buries her face in her pillow and starts to cry uncontrollably.

The next morning Buffy wakes up to her mother's calls, "Buffy, hurry up! Your ride's here!". 'My ride?', Buffy thinks to herself as she climbs out of bed and makes her way to the closet to pick out something to wear. Downstairs in the kitchen Ms. Summers is drinking a cup of coffee while talking with Erik, "So, you're a friend of Buffy's?".

"Yes mam", Erik replies politely.

"No need to call me mam, it makes me feel old", Joyce says as she takes another sip of coffee.

"Yes, um..", Erik begins to say.

"Call me Joyce", Ms. Summers says.

"Okay, Joyce", Erik finishes as Buffy enters the kitchen, 'What is he doing here?', she thinks to herself.

"I see you two are on a first name basis", Buffy remarks as she sits down.

"'Bout time you got up", Ms. Summers says to Buffy.

"Gimme a break, I didn't get much sleep last night", Buffy whines.

"Sorry to hear that, but we should get going before we're late", Erik says.

"You can't afford to be late for school again, Buffy", Joyce says in her protective mother tone.

"Mother,", Buffy replies as her and Erik leave exiting through the front door.

Once outside Buffy says, "Are you crazy?".

"Hey, hold on a minute, there's nothing to worry about. It's not like I told her that I am over a thousand years old and that I'm in love with her daughter, the Slayer. And anyway I just couldn't wait until tonight to see you", Erik replies.

"I love you, too", Buffy says as Erik escorts her over to his motorcycle, "You want me to ride on this thing?".

"Here put this on", Erik says handing her a helmet, as she puts on the helmet he gets on the bike and starts it up.

"Hop on", Erik gestures to Buffy who thinks, 'I can't believe I'm doing this.', as she gets on the motorcycle.

As usual Xander and Willow sit in the courtyard of Sunnydale High waiting for their friend Buffy, "Do you think Buffy's okay?", Xander asks.

"She's gotten through a lot worse, I'm sure this time will be no different", Willow replies.

"But this time she's not slaying vampires and demons..", Xander starts to say when he notices a motorcycle coming down the street, "Who's that?".

"I don't know", Willow answers with a curious look on her face.

Erik pulls his bike over to the curb and drops the kick stand as he cuts the engine. Buffy hops off removing her helmet and says, "Thanks for the ride." She reaches her arms around Erik's neck and they kiss, "Anytime. See you tonight?", Erik asks.

"Of course", Buffy replies as they kiss again. She backs away as Erik starts the bike and releases the kick stand. Buffy says, "Bye", as he drives off down the street and she walks across the campus towards her friends Xander and Willow.

"What's up, Buff? Or do I even need to ask?", Xander says sarcastically. Buffy just gives him one of her looks and pretends to ignore him as she says, "So, how are my best doin' buds today?".

"Apparently not as good as you are", Willow says smiling.

"Does it show that much.?", Buffy asks.

"Yep. Your little public display of affection was a dead give away", Xander replies.

"So, when are you going to see Erik again?", Willow asks.

"Tonight,", Buffy answers smiling, "we're meeting at the Bronze."

"Oz and I are going to be there, maybe we'll run into each other", Willow says.

"What a coincidence, me and Cordy are gonna be there too", Xander says as Cordelia walks up and asks, "We are?". Then Xander answers Cordelia, "Yes, dear, we are. I was going to surprise you."

"Well color me surprised, I thought we were going to the movies to see Titanic", Cordelia says.

"I'll save you the trouble of going... the boat sinks", Xander says.

"We'll see you guys tonight then. Lets go Cordy", Xander continues as Cordelia and him leave.

"That was interesting", Buffy says and Willow nods in agreement, "Very".

The Bronze, the only hot spot in Sunnydale, is packed with teenagers dancing, talking, and having fun. Even Buffy was caught up in having a good time, she had blocked out her life as the Slayer and was living in the moment. A fact that Xander notices as Cordelia and him enter the Bronze. He gazes over to the dance floor where Buffy and Erik are dancing a sexy little number, "Looks like they're having fun", Cordelia remarks. 'Yea, a little too much fun if you ask me.', Xander thinks to himself as they make their way through the crowd towards Oz and Willow's table.

"How long have they been goin' at it?", Xander asks as he gestures towards the dance floor.

"Give her a break, Xander, she hasn't had any fun in a while", Willow replies. 'I just hope she doesn't get carried away.', Xander thinks to himself as Buffy and Erik come up to the table.

"Hi guys", Buffy says smiling.

"Buffy,... Erik", Xander says.

"Xander", Erik says as Buffy and him sit down.

"Oh this should be interesting", Cordelia remarks.

"What?", Xander asks as Cordelia gestures towards the front door, "Oh, boy", he continues as he notices Angel entering the Bronze. Everyone else redirects their attention to the door and nobody says a word but Buffy, "Great." 'Just what I needed.', Buffy thinks to herself as Angel notices her and heads for their table. It doesn't take him long to notice that she's not alone, "What's he doing here?", Angel asks jealously.

"He's with me, and if you don't mind I think you should leave", Buffy says. As Angel begins to reply he notices that Buffy no longer wears the ring that he gave her, "Why are you doing this, Buffy?".

"She asked you to leave,", Erik says as he stands up, "and if you were a gentleman, you'd do so." This angers Angel and Buffy senses it, "Erik, I want to go home", she says trying to ease the situation. Erik hesitates before replying, "Sure, lets get out of here", and he takes Buffy by the hand and the two leave.

Erik and Buffy to her house hand in hand, saying very little on the way. When they get to Buffy's house, Erik is the first one to say anything, "I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"Don't worry about it, its not your fault", Buffy replies trying to comfort him.

"But I do worry about it,... I worry about you. And even though you may already know it, I feel that I have to say it... I love you", Erik says.

"Erik..", Buffy starts to say when Erik puts his fingers to her lips and says, "You don't have to say anything." 'But I want to.', she thinks to herself as Erik continues, "Just know that I'll be there for you forever."

"Forever is a long time", Buffy says.

"Not for me", Erik says reaching into his pocket He pulls out a necklace with an ankh, the Egyptian symbol for eternal life, hanging from it.

"Here, I want you to have this", Erik says and Buffy turns around lifting her hair up. Erik reaches around her neck and puts the necklace on her, she turns back around and while holding the ankh in her hand says, "It's beautiful."

"Its beauty dims in comparison to you", Erik says giving her a passionate kiss. 'I love you.', Buffy thinks to herself as they embrace each other. They relinquish their embrace as Buffy says, "I should go inside, my mom's probably waiting up for me."

"Bye, I'll come by and see you tomorrow", Erik says as he walks down the sidewalk leading away from Buffy's house.

"You better", Buffy says smiling as she opens the front door and enters the house where she finds her mother waiting for her in the living room.

Erik's head is clouded with emotion as he walks through the night and he doesn't even notice when a woman dressed in red comes up to him, "May I help you?", Erik asks the woman.

"I believe you can, you see I'm looking for a mutual friend of ours", the woman replies with a smile.

"Do I know you?", Erik asks.

"We've not been properly introduced, my name is Drusilla", she replies stretching her arm out to him as a greeting. At that moment a feeling of disorientation overwhelms Erik and he becomes dizzy, 'What's going on?', he thinks and then he realizes that this woman is attacking his mind, 'Get out of my head, lady!', but it was too late. Drusilla had worked her powers of persuasion on Erik and in his emotional state he could not resist. Now under her power he takes her hand and kisses it saying, "My name is Erik, it's a pleasure to meet you Drusilla. What can I do for you?".

"All this walking around has made me a bit hungry..", Drusilla says as she reveals her demon visage. Still under Dru's influence, Erik doesn't even hesitate before exposing his neck to her.

"Ahh, this will do nicely", Drusilla says as she sinks her teeth into Erik's neck. As Dru finishes, Erik drops to his knees and she wipes her mouth off on the sleeve of her dress. She looks down at Erik and says, "You look a little pale my friend..", as she slashes her wrist with a small knife, "here, drink." Unable to resist his new found hunger for blood, Erik precedes to suck the blood from the gash on Drusilla's wrist. Erik doubles over in pain as Dru's blood courses through his body, moans of suffering are the only sounds that come from his mouth.

"The pain will subside soon", Drusilla says. Erik manages to overcome the pain and yells, "Buffy!".

Back at the Summers' residence, Buffy and her mother are chatting in the kitchen, "Did you and Erik have fun tonight?", Ms. Summers asks.

"Mother..", Buffy replies but is cut off by the cries of help coming from outside, 'Eric?', she thinks to herself. She springs out of the kitchen and out the front door leaving behind her confused mother.

Buffy runs out into the street to see Erik on the ground writhing in pain and Drusilla standing over him. She notices blood running down his neck and dripping off his chin, "Oh my god,... Nooo!!!", Buffy cries out. All of a sudden Erik's cries of pain come to a halt and a moment of silence passes before he stands, "You see, that wasn't so bad", Drusilla says as she smiles.

"Erik?", Buffy says as she slowly moves towards him. Erik turns to Buffy and as his demon visage reveals itself Buffy screams and starts to cry, 'Why?', she thinks.

"What's the matter Buffy, don't you like my new look?", Erik laughs.
