~ The grounds of Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California – 2 days ago ~

“Lea!” one of Lea Gray’s friends called out from behind her

Lea looked behind her to see her friend holding her cell and looking very serious.

“Locker room!” The friend continued

“Right,” Lea replied as she turned back to Angie, “Think about it will you?”

“Alright.” Angie replied

Lea started to head back to the group.

“Tomorrow lunch time out on the field don’t be late.”

“I won’t.”

When Lea arrived all three stood up and ventured towards the school building.

“What have we got?” Lea asked on the way

“Message from the underground,” Nikki replied

Lea looked at her friend Nikki Church seriously.

“This quickly,” Lea replied, “We only put the call out last night.”

“You how fast the word buzzes when this thing happens.”

“So it’s true then.”

“’fraid so.”

The quartet entered the school building and quickly made their way to the locker room. Inside they made their way to the back corner. After checking if the coast was clear Lea turned to Nikki with a look of extreme seriousness.

“Give it.” She ordered

Nikki folded her arms and looked at the other girls.

“Another slayer was killed a few days ago.” she said

“Oh god,” Katie Watson, the youngest of the four, replied

“How did it happen?” Lakisha Banks asked

“Plane crash,” Nikki replied, “Somewhere over Phoenix.”

“Was it an accident?” Katie asked

“Like hell it was,” Lakisha replied, “Slayer on a plane and it crashes.”

“We don’t know that,” Lea snapped at her, “Let’s not jump to conclusions till we have everything. Do we have a name?”

“Penny . . . that’s all they could get.” Nikki replied

“Source reliable?”

“Straight from a witch.”

Lea breathed a sigh of relief.

“That means they’re no where near here so we should be safe,” she replied, “Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stay on our guard. Neighborhood Watch could be anywhere.”

The others nodded. They started to make their way back through the vent when Lea noticed Katie wasn’t moving. Lea smiled and sat down next to her. She put her arm around the blond reassuringly.

“You okay sweetie?” she asked

Katie shrugged.

“Just thinking about that slayer.” Katie replied softly

“Listen to me,” Lea said insistently, “It won’t happen to us okay? The underground will make sure of that.”

Katie pouted her adorable small pout.

“I can’t run anymore Lea. I just can’t do it.”

Lea hugged Katie tightly.

“We’re safe here. Nothing’s going to happen to us.” Lea replied

~ Main street, Raleighfield California – that night ~

Lea, Nikki, Lakisha, and Katie were walking happily down the street. The club they just came from was packed and everybody was working off the adrenaline rush. Lakisha looked over to Katie who looked very pleased with herself.

“Did ya get his number?” she asked

Katie smirked to herself

“Might have” She mused

“Got who’s number?” Nikki asked

“Katie’s new boyfriend,” Lakisha

Katie shot Lakisha a look.

“He is not my boyfriend,” she said, “he’s a boy who’s my friend.”

“That’s what a boyfriend is Kate.” Nikki replied

Katie gave Nikki and Lakisha dirty looks as Lea looked at the group.

“Guys stop picking on Katie alright?” She said

“Yeah” Katie chimed in

“If she’s got a boyfriend she doesn’t want to tell us about that’s her business.”

The group laugh. just then five males walk in front of them.

“Hey ladies,” the middle one said

The group stop and look at guys. The males start to form a semi circle around them.

“You know these streets aren’t safe at night.”

“Thanks for the newsflash.” Lakisha replied

“I like this one,” the male closes to her said sniffing at her, “She smells feisty.”

“Hey, personal bubble, respect it!”

“We’re just heading home guys leave us alone.” Lea said

“I don’t think we’re going to do that . . . “the lead male said

Suddenly all five men vamp out and start to hover around the girls.

“ . . . I think you’re gonna be with us forever.”

“What are you guys supposed to be?” Nikki asked, “some kind of weird rabbit people?”

“We’re worse then that sweetie haven’t you ever heard of vampires?”

“I don’t know, you ever heard of slayers?”

The vamps look at each other.

“Now!” Lea yelled

All four girls spring into action. Lakisha elbows one of the vamps in the head then hits him with a kick to the stomach. Katie knees another vamp in the stomach then punches him across the jaw. Lea plows into the lead vamp with a series of punches. She spins around sharply knocking him to the ground. she pulls a stake out from her jacket pocket and held it over him. the lead vamp rolls his eyes

“This is just perfect,” he said, “We pick the only small town for miles with five slayers in it.”

Lea plunged the stake through his heart and jumped up. the others finished soon after.

“Man I needed that,” lakisha said, “Hadn’t had a good workout in a while.”

Nikki looked over to lea who looked concerned.

“What’s wrong?” she asked

“That vamp just said there’s five slayers in this town,” she replied looking at the others, “Who’s the other one?”

Nolan sifted uncomfortably on his chair. Belle had just finished her training sessions with Nigel when Nolan came in with the news.

“You didn’t actually say that to her did you?” Belle said in an alarmed tone

“I was trying to make her feel better.” Nolan replied

“’you have great boobs’ how is that supposed to make her feel better?”

“Well . . . she does.” Nolan replied timidly

Belle slapped him across the back of the head.

“What was going through your brain?” she asked

“Hey, what’s wrong with paying her a compliment?”

“You never tell a girl that! That means you’re spending more time looking at her chest then her face!”

“I thought Angie could use some cheering up.”

Belle shook her head.

“We are so not related.” She replied

Angie finished getting her books out of the locker when she saw Sarah and her friends walk up. She smiled at them brightly.

“Hey guys,’ she said happily “I am so excited about joining the squad.”

Sarah looked her up and down

“Who are you?” she asked

“I’m Angie. I’m new.”

“Oh, right, Angie,” Sarah replied venomously, “Sorry I didn’t recognize you with your clothes on.”

Angie frowned as Sarah and her friends walked off laughing. From across the hall Nikki watched this scene angrily. She walked over to Angie.

“Don’t worry about her.” she said, “Sarah’s just jealous because you have actual talent.”

“I’m not going to live that down am I?” Angie said sadly

Nikki shrugged playfully

“If you’d like I could pants somebody in the hall.”

Angie smiled. Nikki stuck out her hand

“Hi I’m Nikki Church.” Nikki continued

“Angie Collins.”

“Good to meet you, hey, you should go talk to Lea she’ll clear this up.”

Angie shook her head reluctantly.

“I don’t want to be a nark.”

“Don’t worry,” Nikki replied, “Lea’s very good at keeping secrets.”

Nigel waited until Rebecca finished with the student she was seeing when the coast was clear he walked in. Rebecca finished writing down some notes then looked up at the watcher

“What did Willow find out about Heidi?” Nigel asked

“She’s not a seer.” Rebecca replied

Nigel looked at Rebecca in shock.

“Excuse me?” he exclaimed

“That’s what Willow said. Heidi is not a seer she’s something else.”

“Do we know what?”

“Not yet Willow had some urgent business to deal with she said she’ll be back later.”

Nigel leaned against the chair.

“I never thought this would be so complex.” He said

“What?”

“Dealing with the supernatural in this town.”

“It’s the nature of the calling Nige any slayer would tell you that.”

“Well you find me another slayer and I’ll ask.”

Rebecca smirked and shook her head.

Lea pounded the boxing bag in the gym. She did this on a regular basis to try and clear her head ever since she was made the unofficial leader of the four of them. It’s hard work trying to stay one step ahead of the council of watchers and even harder to stay one step ahead of Rodger Stone. In his desperation to located the missing Gen S’ Rodger Stone use his contacts as recruiters. These recruiters formed a search organization called ‘Neighborhood Watch’. They were from all walks of life and all age groups. They are in every level of society and their only job is to find slayers and contact the council when they do.

With no other choice the Gen S’ formed the Slayer Underground. The underground monitors and informs its members about any council activity or any relevant information to help in the hiding process. So far they have been more successful but time is always against them. Nikki entered the gym and watched Lea workout. There was something about the way she was working the bag today that suggested something was up.

“Still thinking about the other slayer?” she asked

Lea stopped panting heavy. She looked over to her friend.

“It crossed my mind,” she said, “She needs to be found Nik.”

“I know. Me and Lakisha are gonna hit the graveyards tonight to see if she’s patrolling.”

“Right, Good plan,” Lea replied, “I’ll stay with Katie she still seems a little rattle about that slayer dieing.”

“Katie always did take things to heart.”

“That’s why she’s better then us.” Lea mused before getting back to her workout.

Katie entered the library and put her books down on the check in counter. Nigel walked up and smiled at her.

“Ah Miss Watson,” he said happily, “Good to see someone of your age still enjoying the basic pleasures of books.”

Katie smiled at him.

“You know me Mr. Wincroft big with the reading,” she replied,” Oh did my book come in?”

“It just arrived this morning.”

Katie gave a little excited squeal that threw Nigel out for a moment. He then wandered into his office. While she waited she looked around the library. She noticed Belle sitting at one of the table. This is not the first time she had seen her here.

“You’re here a lot.” Katie commented

Belle looked up

“What?” she asked

“I said you’re here a lot you a big book fan as well?”

“Ah . . . Yeah that’s why I’m here.”

“Cool another worm in the school! We should have a reading session.”

“Great,” Belle replied sounding less then enthused, “We should do that.”

Nigel returned a moment later and handed Katie the book. She thanked the librarian a dozen times then skipped out excitedly. Once the coast was clear Nigel walked over to Belle.

“Sorry about that, where were we up to?” he said

“You were explaining to me how I can sense Vampires,” Belle replied distracted, “Who was that?”

“Just one of my loyal readers” Nigel replied

“She called me a worm”

“She does that. Miss Watson marches to the beat of her own particular percussion section.”

“There was something else about her as well,” Belle replied, “I can’t put my finger on it but it’s there.”

Lea ran the cheerleaders through some practice on the field. Angie was doing her best to try and keep up but was having some difficulty. Lea noticed this. She stopped the group and walked over.

“Just relax Angie you’re too tense.” She explained, “Focus less on the timing more on the movement.”

“I’m trying.” Angie replied, “Sorry if I’m slowing you down.”

Lea smiled at her.

“You’re doing fine you just need practice.”

“Maybe she not used to wearing so much!” Sarah called out

Lea shot her a look. Angie frowned intently as the group started to laugh. She turned and ran away from the group. Lea looked at the other girls with deep anger.

“That’s enough!” she yelled, “If I hear one more comment like that I will be taking people out of the squad!”

The group fell silent. They all knew Lea’s commanding voice very well and learned to follow it to the letter. Lea walked over to Sarah.

“We’re going to have a talk afterwards.” She said

Angie sat on one of the benches miserably. She wiped the tears from her eyes as she sensed someone hovering over her. She looked up and saw Rebecca standing there.

“Hi,” Rebecca said, “I was coming to see you heard you started cheerleading.”

“Yeah” Angie replied

Rebecca saw how upset Angie was and sat down next to her.

“What’s wrong?”

“Those other girls are still making fun of me because of my teleporting.”

Rebecca nodded.

“Kids can be cruel sometime,” Rebecca replied, “Just ignore them and this will blow over.”

“Like this is ever going to blow over.”

“It’s high school Angie things can change in an instant.”

Lea jogged around the corner. She saw Angie and went up to her.

“Are you alright?” she asked

Angie nodded. Lea put a reassuring hand on Angie’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure nothing like that happens again. You want to come back?”

“Okay.” Angie replied getting to her feet, “Thanks Rebecca.”

“No problem.” Rebecca replied

Lea looked over to Rebecca and her face dropped. She looked at her for a long moment trying to work out if this was some kind of trick. Rebecca noticed Lea staring at her and stood up.

“Hi I don’t think we’ve met,” Rebecca said in a friendly tone, “I’m Mrs. Whitfield.”

“Lea,” lea replied in a distracted tone.

“You don’t look to good lea is there a problem?”

Lea snapped herself out of her trance and smiled warmly at the councilor.

“No, things are good, just making sure Angie okay.”

“Thank you for looking out for her she’s been through a lot recently.”

“Angie looks like a fighter.” Lea replied, “Hey, Angie, head back to the group I have an errand I have to run.”

Nikki was near her locker when Lea rushed up. She saw the urgency in her eyes and began to worry.

“God, are you okay?” she asked

“No, none of us are,” lea replied urgently, “locker room two minutes.”

The slayers sat around stunned by the news Lea just delivered. They could hardly believe it was true.

“You can not be serious.” Lakisha snapped

“God I wish I wasn’t.” Lea replied

“Are you sure it just wasn’t somebody who looked like her?” Nikki asked

“No I’m positive,” Lea stated, “The school councilor. She’s the Slayer Generals niece.”

Lakisha screwed her face up in anger and slammed a locker door. Katie looked at Lea full of fear.

“Are we gonna have to run again?” she asked innocently

“Look, it’s obvious that she doesn’t know who we really are.”

“What are we going to do Lea?” Lakisha asked

“Let’s just stick to what we do normally, I mean, why should she recognize us? None of us worked in L.A. right?”

The group looked at each other. Nikki and Lakisha said that they didn’t but Katie said nothing. She hugged herself nervously and looked at the floor. Lea looked at her in concern.

“Katie?” she asked

Katie looked up with tears in her eyes.

“I-I worked in L.A.” she replied, “My zone had the Hyperion in it and I was one of the slayers she saved when the police shut down the city”

“Oh god” Nikki exclaimed

Lea thought for a moment.

“Alright let’s not lose our head here. Everybody just stick to your normal plans, one thing, Katie is never alone. We’ll take it in turns looking out for her.” Lea said seriously

“Right,” Nikki replied, “Just in case I’ll get onto the underground see if they can get us out if we need to.”

“Great. Let’s get to it.”

The group began to filter out of the locker room. Once they had left Sarah stepped out from behind one of the lockers and smiled to herself. She pulled out her cell and speed dialed a number.

“This is neighborhood watch,” she said, “get me Rodger Stone.”
