A/N: Okay, just kidding, there won’t be more to the last chapter. Time just totally got away from me. Hope you like this one.
Addison opened the door to Angel’s mansion and prayed that he wasn’t angry with her. She had been Miss. Cranky with him a lot lately, and she wanted to make it up to him.
“Addy?” he heard Angel call from upstairs.
“Yeah, it’s me!” she called back. She heard Angel stomping around upstairs, and decided to go to him.
“No, stop! Don’t come in here,” Angel said when he heard her footsteps growing closer.
“Why?” Addison asked crossing her arms, but stopping none the less. A bemused smile crossed her face.
“Just wait,” Angel said, stepping out into the hall. He reached forward and gently took her hands in his.
“Wait for what?”
“This.” Angel leaned forward and placed a quick, soft kiss on Addison’s lips. She smiled and felt herself immediately relax.
“Angel...”
“Shh. Look, I know that you’ve been stressed lately, and that I haven’t been the best at just letting you go, but I want to make it up to you,” Angel explained. Addison laughed.
“I guess great minds really do think alike. I was pretty much thinking the same thing,” Addison said. Angel smiled, rubbing her knuckles with his thumbs.
“Addy, I never thought in my whole life, human vampire or immortal, that I would feel about anyone the way I feel about you. And I never thought I would do this, but....Addy....,” the phone rang, cutting Angel off. Addison groaned. She knew that ring. It was the ring tone that played whenever Sheila called.
“What?” Addison asked, answering the phone and holding up a finger at Angel. He nodded and wrung his hands together.
“Addy, Buffy wants to know if you want to go patrol?” Sheila asked.
“No, actually, Angel and I are kind of in the middle of something. Can’t she go by herself?” Addison begged.
“No, but I’ll go with her, I guess. Just promise that you’ll take her tomorrow?” Sheila asked.
“God, Sheils, she’s not a fucking dog. She’s perfectly capable of going on patrol by herself. She’s a slayer for God’s sake. Just let the woman go,” Addison sighed.
“Fine, but it’s on you if she gets herself into trouble,” Sheila warned.
“Whatever.” Addison couldn’t hang up the phone fast enough. When she turned around, Angel was running his hands through his hair, something he only did when he was nervous, which was never.
“Addy, oh God I’m not sure I can do this....Will you marry me?” Angel blurted. Addison stopped moving, stopped breathing, stopped existing, for a moment while the words sunk in. Then a hand flew to her chest and she gasped. Tears flooded her eyes and she let out a sob.
“Oh thank God! I thought you were breaking up with me. Of course I’ll marry you!” Addison cried, jumping into Angel’s arms.
“It’s just, you never know...”
“Angel?” Addison asked, kissing his face.
“What?”
“Shut up,” Addison smiled. Angel carried her into the bedroom and laid her on the bed before taking a small box out of his night stand. Inside was a platinum ring with a large, princess cut diamond. He slipped it on her finger and kissed her.
“I love you,” he growled. Addison laughed.

Addison spent a good hour tracing circle’s on Angel’s chest. She sighed contentedly and fingered the ring.
“I just have one question,” Addison said, looking up at Angel.
“What’s that?”
“What did you write in that letter to Buffy? Not that it really matters, but I want to know what you said that could have hurt her so much,” Addison explained.
“Why don’t you read it yourself? I have a copy right here,” Angel said as he rolled over and pulled out a piece of yellow parchment. Addison took it and began to read.
Buffy,
I know that there was a time when I called you my soul mate, when I said that I would love you forever, but that time is in the past. I don’t love you, Buffy. I haven’t for a long time, I just couldn’t bring myself to tell you. I realize that this seems cruel of me, but it’s for the best. Buffy, you’ll never let yourself be happy if you think that I still love you. I really don’t. I think I stopped loving you about a year after I left Sunnydale. I want you to understand that this letter is not meant to be cruel, or to hurt you, but to free you. Free you from the lie that we’ve both been living. I’m sorry Buffy, but this is the last you will ever hear from me. Let yourself be happy, you deserve it.
Angel
The letter was not as long as Addison had expected, nor as harsh. She hadn’t known what to expect, but this certainly wasn’t it. She looked at Angel and smiled.
“I thought you had been a lot meaner. I mean, they put Buffy in a mental institution because of this letter,” Addison laughed.
“It wasn’t just the letter, it was life. Buffy was used to being so strong for everyone around her that things finally got to her. It was too much. No one needed her to be strong anymore, so she just lost it. The pain of everything that had ever hurt her came to the surface, and she couldn’t handle it. Lends credence to the whole “don’t bottle up your emotions” thing.”
“I’m going to tell her about us. Tomorrow, maybe. After we have a good long talk,” Addison thought out loud.
“Maybe you should wait just a little longer,” Angel suggested. Addison raised her eyebrows.
“Okay,” she said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buffy walked through the darkened streets, stake in hand, ready for action. But none was coming her way. This was the second night in a row that Sheila had let Buffy patrol alone. Addison was still spending, what sounded like much needed, alone time with her boyfriend.
Buffy felt good, for the first time in a long time. She felt needed, looked up to. She knew that she shouldn’t have to feel like this to function, but she did. Otherwise, all she was, was a girl with superpowers. She heard a scuffle from an alley behind her and ran towards it. Maybe it was nothing, but it might have been something.
She was in no way prepared for what she saw. Addison was fighting next to, could it possibly be?, Angel. She recognized everything about the way he moved, the way his black duster flapped in the wind when he fought. She stopped short and waited for them to see her.
“Buffy?” Addison gasped when she had finally turned around.
“Angel?” Buffy whispered. Addison rushed forward.
“Buffy, listen,”
“I thought you were with your boyfriend?”
“Fiancé, actually, and I am. It’s Angel. Buffy, this is not how I wanted you to find out, please,” Addison begged, trying to lead Buffy away from the alley. From the sight of Angel.
“It’s him,” Buffy muttered.
“Buffy, come on, please. Let’s go back to Sheila’s and I can explain everything,” Addison pleaded. Buffy was hardly moving, Addison was pretty much dragging her. Angel stood, rooted to the spot, not meeting Buffy’s eyes. He knew that would make it real. Finally, Buffy turned around and walked with Addison.
“How long?” Buffy asked as they walked.
“We’ve been together for almost four years. We just got engaged last night,” Addison admitted.
“Okay, I think we should wait for more. I’ll need to be sitting down.”
A/N: Hope you enjoyed. Leave me something!
