. . . Brant looked over to the woman who was just rescued and frowned.
“This isn’t Penny.”
“You just figured that out?” Megan replied
“Then if she’s not here . . .” Glenda commented
The group looked at each other then at the plane as it lifted off the ground and into the air.
“Guess we lost our chance.” Megan commented sadly
“I wouldn’t say that.” The wanderer commented as he joined the group
Megan looked at the old man curiously. He seemed to have a mischievous smile on his face that didn’t fit the moment.
“Where have you been?” Megan asked
“I told you I had to clear up an issue.”
“But Pen’s on the plane.”
“Don’t worry Pen’s gonna be fine, Brad’s going to make sure.”
Megan looked at the wanderer curiously.
“Who’s Brad?”
“The pilot.” The Wanderer said confidently
“What did you do?”
~ The terminal, Phoenix Arizona – 20 minutes ago ~
. . . The Wanderer looked at the pilot closely. A sly smile crossed his face. As Vic and his partners were handed over to someone handling the administration he watched as the pilot went into a back room.
“Watch Brant for me.” The Wanderer said as he pulled away from the group
Megan looked at him confused.
“Where are you going?” she asked
“Have to clear up an issue.” He replied before disappearing into the back room.
As he entered the room hope flew down and landed on his shoulder. He saw the pilot grabbing a cup of coffee and stood about a meter away from him.
“Hi Brad.” The Wanderer said calmly
Brad dropped his cup and swung around. He looked at the old man in shock.
“Wanderer?” he asked, “Oh my god.”
The Wanderer smiled and walked up to him with open arms. The two men hugged briefly.
“How you been?” The Wanderer asked
“Great!” Brad replied energetically, “ever since you save my butt back in Madrid things have been looking up.”
He looked at the old man curiously
“What are you doing here?” Brad continued
“I’m here to save someone else,” The Wanderer replied, “I need you to do me a big favour.”
~ Inside the plane – 5 minutes later ~
Jenkins threw Penny down onto the chair and tied her back up with rope.
“Get cosy luv,” he said, “it’s gonna be a long flight.”
From the cockpit Brad stepped out and looked at Jenkins.
“Can I speak to you for a second?” he asked
Jenkins stood up and joined Brad in the cockpit. When the coast was clear The Wanderer stepped out from the shadows and walked up next to Penny.
“Hey.” He said quietly
Penny swung her head around in surprise
“Wanderer? Get me out of here.” She sharply
“I can’t,” The Wanderer replied, “Vic would come straight after us.”
“Then what’s your plan?”
“Don’t worry everything’s set,” The Wanderer said pulling a bottle out of his satchel, “drink this.”
Penny looked at the murky liquid cautiously
“What is it?”
The Wanderer smiled at her.
“Wake up juice.”
He opened the cap and placed it to her lips. She drank vigorously and downed the concoction in a matter of second. Penny said for a moment unsatisfied
“Nothing’s happening.” She said
“In a few minutes you will.” The Wanderer replied
Megan folded her arms.
“So you just let her fly off with that bastard?” she asked
“Don’t worry,” The Wanderer replied smugly, “I got a feeling that Vic’s gonna have the worst flight of his life.
Inside the plane Vic and Jenkins sat calmly while Penny waited patiently. In the cockpit Brad watcher the enforcer cautiously before he flicked a switch on the panel. Suddenly the plane was filled with the sounds of loud beeping. Vic looked around cautiously before he rushed up to the front.
“What the bloody hell is going on?” he demanded
“There’s something wrong with one of the engines,” Brad said as he fought for control of the plane, “We’re going to have to head back.”
“The hell we are! Keep going.”
“Sorry, airline rules, I have to fly back to Phoenix.”
Vic drew his gun and pointed it at Brads head.
“You’re gonna keep goin’ understand?”
Brad reached under his seat. He pulled out a sawn off shotgun and pointed it at Vic’s head.
“No I’m not,” Brad said forcefully, “you think this is the first time someone’s tried to hijack me?”
The enforcer stepped back and put his gun away.
“Now go sit your ass down before I drop you.” Brad continued
Vic glared at Brad with an intense anger but complied. Penny smirked as Vic wandered back into the body and sat back down. A moment later she looked around in surprise as she felt a rush as her powers quickly returned. Penny looked over to Vic
“Problems?” she asked
“Don’t worry slayer we’ll get you to your new home so enough.” Vic replied
Penny shook her head.
“No I’m thinking about kicking your ass.”
Vic looked over amused.
“Really? And how are you plannin’ on doin’ that?”
Penny pulled against her ropes and they snapped instantly. She jumped out of the chair and punched Jenkins across the head, knocking him out cold. Vic stood up and drew his gun. With one spin kick Penny knocked it out of his hands. She rushed in with a punch to the stomach. Doubling the enforcer over she continued with a knee to the face. Vic flew back and hit the floor hard. Penny leaned over him and grabbed him by the collar.
“You tell the council I’m not interested.” He snarled
Vic smiled.
“Like that’s gonna stop them.” He replied
Penny Dragged Vic to his feet and slammed him hard against the side.
“You’re gonna make them stop.”
“No I’m not,” Vic said in a fierce tone, “Soon as you let me go I’m gonna make it my life’s work to hunt you down like the bitch you are.”
Penny stepped away from him and grabbed hold of the rail on the side.
“The Wanderer figured you’d say something like that.” Penny replied, “Brad.”
In the cockpit Brad pulled a leaver. The door Vic was leaning against swung open and the enforcer was shot out. Penny gripped the pole tightly until Brad closed the door again.
“That was fun.” Brad said
Penny walked into the cockpit and sat in the co-pilots seat.
“Yeah,” she replied, “I kinda want to go home now.”
Back at the mansion everybody was relieved that penny was safe and sound.
“Are you sure Vic didn’t harm you in any way?” Brant asked
“Apart from the chair thing he didn’t touch me.”
“Thank heavens for small mercies.”
Penny looked down sadly.
“This isn’t over,” she said, “the council is going to send more people after me.”
“I wouldn’t worry about that,” Brant replied confidently, “I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen.”
The group look at him curiously.
“You sure you can do that?” Megan asked
“I’ve been in the council a long time dear I know how to bend the rules. I few other Watchers who aren’t that loyal to Rodger.”
“Thanks,” Penny replied
“My pleasure.”
“So what are you going to do now?” Brett asked
Brant thought about it.
“I don’t know really. Guess I should look for other work.”
“I’m sure you’ll find something,” Megan replied cheerfully, “you’re a really smart guy.”
Brant smiled. Glenda stood.
“I must return to my coven now,” she said, “it’s good to see that your safe.”
Glenda turned and left the room. As she walked down the hall Brant stepped out of the room.
“Wait a moment,” he said, “I need to speak to you.”
Glenda turned and faced the Watcher. Brant walked up and looked at her seriously.
“What do you want to talk to me about.” she asked
“You mustn’t tell the goddess that Penny’s alive.”
Glenda looked at Brant shocked
“But Willow is expecting me to do so.” She replied
“It’s for her own safety,” Brant replied, “The council has moles everywhere and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one in the coven.”
Glenda saw the seriousness in his eyes and nodded.
“What do you want me to say?” Glenda asked
~ The department of physics, Raleighfield University, Raleighfield California – 3 days later ~
The bell rang and the students began to gather their things. Alex Whitfield stood confidently at his podium and looked at the all.
“Alright you all know your assignments and I want those papers in by Monday no excuses.” He said
He began to dust the blackboard clean when Willow slowly entered. Alex looked over to her and smiled.
“Hey Will.” He said in a cheerful tone
He noticed the sombre look on her face and his smile dropped.
“What’s wrong?” he asked
“I need you to sit down Alex.” Willow said
Worried he did what the goddess asked. Willow paced in front of him not exactly sure what she was going to say but knowing it needed to be said.
“Will, you’re worrying me, what happed? Is Rebecca okay?”
“This isn’t about Rebecca.”
“Then what?”
Willow looked into Alex eyes. She walked over and knelt down to match his eye line.
“I just got word back from one of my Witches,” Willow said, “She found Penny . . .”
It broke Willow heart to see the look of hope in this mans eyes. Willow dropped her head
“ . . . She was killed.”
Alex’s face dropped. Willow saw the tears forming in his eyes and hugged him tightly.
“I am so, so sorry.” She continued
