~ Raleighfield high school, Raleighfield California – 20 minutes earlier ~

Rebecca sat still in the library while willow sensed the energy coming from her body. Next to her Angel leaned against the table and waited for the goddess to finish. After a long moment Willow moved away with a shocked expression on her face.

“What the new Will?” Angel asked

“This is some of the oldest magic I have ever felt,” Willow said stunned, “it’s very powerful.”

“So I am infected,” Rebecca stated still coming to terms with the idea, “The lawyer who did this to me said it was part of the implantation process.”

Willow shook her head.

“This was done before. Wolfram and Hart wanted to make sure that nobody could stop this thing.” She replied

“What’s the next step?” Angel asked

Willow got to her feet and brushed her white hair away from her eyes.

“I’m gonna have to research this.”

Angel looked at her curiously.

“Can’t you just do a counter spell?”

“Toying with Ancient magicks is dangerous,” Willow replied, “If I cast one wrong spell me and Rebecca could both be killed.”

“If you need to use some of my references I can make them available to you.” Nigel said from the corner of the room

“Thanks,” Willow replied as she followed the watcher to the stacks

Angel looked back down at his daughter. Rebecca was sitting quietly trying to absorb the entire situation. He nudged her lightly with his leg.

“Hey,” he said, “How are you feeling?”

Rebecca sighed.

“Fine now that Darrel guy said I had up to a year before it kills me so, I guess, I wont start to feel it for at least a few weeks.”

“If you need anything . . .”

“I know Angel,” Rebecca replied sadly, “Thanks for coming.”

Angel nodded. He looked into her soulful brown eyes.

“You’re worried about Alex aren’t you?”

“I hate seen him this mad,” Rebecca replied

“He’s a tough guy Rebecca he’ll come around.”

Nigel and willow sorted through the books. The Goddess looked over to the Watcher.

“I guess I owe you an apology.” Willow said

“I did try to explain this to you.” Nigel replied in an even tone

“Yeah you did,” Willow replied scanning through another magic book, “Rodger’s just got me on edge.”

“He does have that effect on people. I’m still supposed to discuss the arrangement he made.”

Willow stopped and looked at him curiously.

“What arrangement?”

“The council agreed to contact you on the proviso that Rebecca start to work for them again.”

Willow slammed the book shut and looked at him in surprise.

“She didn’t actually agree to this did she?”

Nigel sighed and looked at the goddess.

“I haven’t told her yet.” He replied

“And you’re not going to,” Willow snapped, “You seem like an okay guy but you can’t do this to Rebecca.”

“Believe me I don’t want to but if I go against Rodgers orders I will be removed as Belles watcher,” Nigel replied in frustration, “between this and his hunt for the Generation S. Slayers I think he’s been corrupted by the power.”

When Nigel mentioned the Generation S slayers something stirred in the back of Willows mind. She shook off the feeling and went back to searching the archives.

“Something has to be done about Rodger.” Willow stated seriously

Alex stared seriously into Darrel’s poker face.

“Do you have the cure on you?” Alex asked

Darrel smiled and opened his brief case. From inside he produced a syringe and placed it on the desk. Alex stared at the dull green liquid curiously.

“How do I this stuff is actually going to work?”

“You don’t” Darrel replied

“Then why are you handing it to me?”

“Because I know what you’re thinking,” Darrel replied calmly, “I just came into your office and told you to your face that I’m trying to kill your wife why should you believe anything else I tell you? For all you know this liquid could do nothing or worse it could kill her faster.”

Darrel paused for effect. He already sensed the conflict inside Alex’s mind.

“On the other hand I could be telling you the entire truth and this syringe could be the only thing to save dear sweet Rebecca's life. You just don’t know do you.”

Alex stared at the syringe intensely. As much as he hated it Darrel had a point. He had no idea what this stuff would do to Rebecca if she was injected with it but is his own fear enough to stop him getting a possible cure for the virus? Slowly Alex looked back at the lawyer.

“What do you want me to do?” he asked

Belle, Nolan and Heidi stood by the school hall. Every month around the same time Principal Crawford brings the school together to make announcements and generally inform the school body what’s been happening.

“You think Coach Millers gonna announce the team for the track meet next month?” Nolan asked

Belle shrugged. Nolan looked at her strangely

“What’s gotten into you?” he continued, “You were real excited about it two months ago.”

“Yeah but things are different now.”

“You mean the slaying?”

Belle shot him a look as several of the other students waiting by the auditorium door looked around.

“Yeah that’s what I mean.” She said in a lowered voice.

“What’s the issue? It’s not gonna get in the way of training.” Nolan replied

“I know but, I’ve been thinking, is it really fair? On the others I mean.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I can run faster then anybody I know I think it might be cheating if I enter.”

“It’s not cheating Belle,” Nolan replied, “it’s called having an edge over the competition.”

“Still . . . I’m thinking of pulling out.”

“What? No! Not after what we’ve worked for.”

“Sorry Nolan I think it’s the right thing to do.”

Nolan folded his arms upset.

“Fine, whatever, do what you want.”

Nolan turns to Heidi who was smiling at him with a half smile.

“See how she treats me Heidi? After all that work I put in moulding her into an elite athlete.”

“What moulding Nolan? You held a stopwatch and said ‘go’.” Belle replied

“And if I didn’t do that who would?”

“I’m sure I could find lots of people.”

The doors to the auditorium open and the students file in. Belle watched as Heidi kept her eyes on Nolan as she passed him. A smirk crossed her face. Nolan noticed this.

“What?” he asked

“She like you you know?” belle replied

“Who does?”

“Heidi.”

“What? No way.”

“Haven’t you seen the way she’s been looking at you?”

Nolan looked at his sister confused as they took a seat.

“Has she been looking at me?” he replied

Belle rolled her eyes and paid attention to the stage as Principal Crawford took to the stand.

“Okay, quiet please, I have a lot of announcement to get through.” he said

As he straightened his notes the group heard a loud pounding sound coming from the double doors on the side wall. A moment later they gave way and Snake entered followed by the rest of the Amarra Vamps. The crowd screamed at the sight of their vamped out faces. Snake took to the stage as the rest of the vampires blocked the exits.

“I got a better idea teach,” snake said, “Why don’t you shut up and join the rest of our food.”

He grabbed Principal Crawford by the collar and threw him off the stage. Snake leaned heavily on the podium while he looked out over the sea of frightened students.

“So many to eat so little time.”

Belle and Nolan looked at snake anxiously

“Vampires.” Belle said

“But its day time,” Nolan replied, “Thought vampires weren’t sun proof.”

“Same here.”

“What are we going to do?” Nolan asked

Belle sized up the situation and it didn’t look good. The room was now full of Sun Proof Vampires who looked extra hungry and no obvious way out. What ever she was planning on doing it had to be soon.

Dr.’s Patterson and Maynard were continuing their study of the wolf seal when Alex and Darrel entered the room.

“Alex, just in time,” Dr Patterson said, “we were about to get a reading off the tablet.”

Alex looked at the scientist confused

“Reading?” he asked

“Yes this tabled is kicking out a lot of raw energy we were trying to find the source. Who’s your friend.”

“Oh, right, Dr Patterson this is Darrel Gibson,” Alex said trying to hide his nervousness, “He a friend of my wife’s.”

“What are you working on here?” Darrel asked

“It’s a stone tablet that was found at the north end of Heatherview Cemetery,” Dr. Maynard explained from next to the tablet, “We haven’t carbon dated it yet but it’s at least a thousand years old.”

“Actually it about fifteen hundred years old,” Darrel said reaching into his pocket as he walked up to the tablet, “it was made, special order, for three very powerful demons.”

The two doctors looked at each other confused.

“How do you know all this?” Dr. Maynard asked

Darrel smiled at him. He pulled hand out of his pocket and opened it. A bright flash of brilliant white light filled the room and the two Doctors collapsed to the floor. Darrel brushed the remains of the spell from his hand and returned to Alex calmly.

“That should keep them quiet for a while,” He said, “Now about our arrangement.”

“I don’t know,” Alex replied

Darrel folded his arms and tilted his head to the side playfully.

“You wouldn’t be trying to stall for time now would you?”

“What do you want with this thing?”

“My reasons are my own,” Darrel replied

“You told them it’s was made for three very powerful demons I’m not just going to let walk out of here with something potentially dangerous.”

“Alex, Alex, Alex if this thing were truly dangerous why would I come to negotiate?” Darrel asked, “I would have simply sent some men in with big guns to steal it. This seal is useless on its own.”

Darrel takes the syringe out of his suitcase again.

“Think about it. One piece of rock for the salvation of you soul mate.” He said a suggestive tone, “I believe you scientists call it a ‘calculated risk’.”

Alex looked from the syringe to the tablet. He had spent enough time around slayers and demons to know never hand over a dangerous object but if this guy was telling the truth he could Save Rebecca's life. This was a hard decision and one he didn’t want to get wrong.

“I’m trying to decide what’s the best way to eat you all,” Snaked said as he paced slowly, “I was thinking alphabetically but I cant spell to good so we’ll do it the high school way. The hot ones first.”

The Amarra vamps at the side of the room started to filter through the crowd. Belle and Nolan sat cautiously as a vampire passed by them. Nolan looked over to his sister.

“We can’t let these guys eat everyone!” Nolan said

“I know, I know,” Belle replied anxiously, “Listen, I’m going to cause a distraction you make a break for it and go find Rebecca.”

“Can’t you deal with these guys?”

Belle turned and gave her brother a look.

“They came in from the sun Nolan.”

“Oh, right, good point.”

“Are you ready?”

Nolan nodded. Slowly Belle put her arms around the back of her seat. She could sense two vampires approaching. Pushing off with her feet she flipped over the back of the chair and kicked both vamps in the side. They flew back and hit the wall hard. Belle flipped back up onto her feet and gave Nolan the signal. Nolan leaped out of his chair and burst out the door before the two vamps could collect themselves.

Belle got into a fighting stance. The vamp trying to sneak up from behind her she kicked in the stomach then spun kicked him the head. She swung back with an elbow to the jaw of the first vamp then followed it through by punching him in the face. She ducked under the punch from the second vamp then grabbed her empty seat and smashed it over his head. She picked up one of the broken pieces of wood and held it confidently.

She lashed out with a series of hits to the torso and head of the first vamp in front of her finishing quickly by sinning around quickly and sweeping his legs out from under him. Quickly getting to her feet she straddle him and plunged the stake through his heart. Belle got up and waited for him to explode into dust. To her horror the vamp simply stood up, pulled out the stake and laughed as the wound healed instantly. The two vamps behind her grabbed Belle quickly.

“Hey boss!” the first vamp yelled, “looks like we got ourselves a slayer!”

“A slayer?” Snake replied, ”looks like you people have been holding out on me. Bring her down here!”

The vamps drag Belle onto the stage and hand her over to Snake. He grabs her roughly by the throat.

“Well slayer,” he said menacingly, “looks like you get to be number one.”

Belle shut her eyes tightly as Snake bared his fangs and moved for her neck
