Addison snuggled deeper into Angel’s warm embrace and sighed. Last night could have been so much worse for her. Thank God Angel had the presence of mind to leave before either slayer saw him. Addison was not ready to betray Buffy by revealing her true intentions. At least, her original intentions. The more time she spent with Buffy, the more she wanted to hear everything the elder slayer had to say, and the less she cared about Buffy’s past with Angel.

“Morning,” Angel grumbled, feeling Addison’s movement.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you,” Addison whispered, still turned away from him.
“You’re fine. Look at me,” Angel demanded. Addison rolled over to face Angel, but kept her eyes away from his.

“What?”

“Look at me,” Angel growled. Addison forced her eyes to meet his. Angel rolled over Addison and placed a hand on either side of Addison’s head, looking deep into her eyes. “Addison, I just want to make sure that you aren’t going to hurt yourself by getting into this thing with Buffy. She’s an amazing slayer, it’s true, but she slayed in a way that worked for her. You have to do what works for you,”Angel said kindly, raining kisses on Addison’s collar bone.

“What worked for me was having you and Sheila by my side. I can’t rely on that, cause as much as I hate to admit it, you two may not always be by my side. Get off,” Addison said, gently pushing Angel off of her chest. She stood up and slipped a sweatshirt over her tank top.

“Addy, I agree that you should be able to fight for yourself, but I just think that you should tread carefully,” Angel reasoned.

“I can take care of myself, Angel. I’ll be back later,” Addison snapped. And with that, she left the mansion.

Buffy breathed deeply as she woke up. And then she realized what had caused her to wake up. The apartment was shaking with a heavy bass beat and Buffy could see the mirror hanging on her wall teetering back and forth, about to fall off. She stood and lifted it from the wall, setting it gently against her bed. Then she pulled on some sneakers and headed to the mat room, where the music was coming from. What she saw was Addison, mixing ballet and hip hop in a fast, rigorous, routine. Buffy watched as sweat dripped from the young girl. In those moments that Buffy watched Addison dance, she saw a completely different person. The Addison that Buffy saw in the mirrors of the mat room was a strong, vibrant, confidant woman. When Addison was in her slayer shoes, she was hesitant and timid.

“Addison!” Buffy screamed over the music. Addison noticed Buffy, but didn’t stop dancing or turn down the music.

“What!” Addison shouted back, going into a spin and a low dip.

“Could you turn the music down! Some people are still trying to sleep!”

“Sheila’s used to it!”

“Okay, I was trying to sleep!” Buffy screamed, frustrated. Addison was obviously pissed off, and Buffy had no idea what could have angered her so early in the day. Addison finally stopped dancing and turned the volume down.

“What do you want?” Addison breathed, leaning over and bracing her hands against her bent knees.

“Well nothing if you’re going to bite my head off. I like my head thank you very much,” Buffy said, resting her hands on her hips and staring at Addison.

“Sorry, I’m just a little...irked,” Addison explained, sighing and running a hand through her hair.

“Irked? I thought fuming was a better choice, but whatever. You wanna go for a run?” Buffy asked. She was already dressed for a workout and had been planning to run anyway.

“Sure,” Addison said. She quickly took a long gulp of water and then grabbed a lightweight track jacket to slide over her shoulders.

“Where’s the best place to run around here?” Buffy asked.

“Hold on. SHEILA! WE”RE GOING FOR A RUN! Anyway, the beach is definitely the best place. And there are some natural stone formations that are perfect for stair running.” The two slayers set out running, setting a pace that few people in the world could match comfortably. By the time they reached the natural stone stairs, they were covered in a sheen of sweat. Without breaking a stride, Addison launched herself onto the steps and ran up, before jumping off the top and running to the front again. Buffy soon fell into step with her apprentice. They ran stairs for almost an hour before Addison decided, without a word, to head back. The pace on the run back to Sheila’s apartment was at a much slower pace, and they took a new route. This route took them right past Angel’s mansion, which Addison had forgotten.

“Who lives there?” Buffy asked as they breezed past Angel’s place. Addison looked up, panicked, and saw Angel sitting on the rooftop terrace, reading a book.

“Lawyer,” Addison shrugged, hoping that even if Buffy saw Angel, she wouldn’t recognize him. Thankfully, Buffy didn’t look up, but Addison noticed Angel had moved to the railing and was looking down on them. She quickly looked back to her path and took a deep breath.

“So, you wanna tel me what had you all worked up earlier?” Buffy asked as they came to a halt in a local park. It was early, but already kids were crawling over the equipment.

“My boyfriend is just being a little suffocating, that’s all. He’s not sure that I’m making the decisions I should be making. Anyway, it’s not a big deal, it just rubbed me the wrong way. It’ll blow over soon,” Addison shrugged, taking a seat on one of the swings. Buffy sat down next to her, thinking back to her teenage years. She couldn’t believe how long it had been since she’d even sat in a swing.

“Boyfriends can be difficult. But sometimes they just don’t understand what our lives are like. We’re slayers, a female line, and sometimes men just can’t get it. But give him a chance, because it sounds like he really, genuinely cares about you. Go a little easy on him,” Buffy advised.

“You know, I can’t imagine why the potentials way back when thought that they knew more than you. You’re so wise. Thanks.” Addison smiled.

A/N: Not finished. MORE TO COME!!! But right now I’m obsessed with watching bones, so, I’ll post the rest later.
