NEW YORK - earlier 1980s

Spike scans the club for someone interesting to eat. The Romanoes are playing on stage and the place is packed.

ROMANOES (signing)-
"Beat on the brat....beat on the brat....beat on the brat...with a baseball bat...." Sounds like a bloody good idea. Spike continues his search when he happens on a young black woman at the bar. She is wearing a long black leather coat. He creeps up to the bar, and overhears the bartender say that her name is Nikki. She gets up from the bar and leaves. He follows her closely.

She goes into an alley behind the club, and Spike can hear the sounds of a fight going on. Damn it, some bloody mugger has beaten him to the punch. He turns the corner to see Nikki whipping the shit out of a vampire. She finally stakes him....and a sense of excitement rushes over Spike. Lookie, Lookie....found myself a Slayer, he thinks. He turns the other way....now is not the time. He walks over to the next bar and escorts a very stoned girl into the alley. He then feeds off of her, and spends a couple of hours in lala land.

After feeding, he enters a music shop. It was just him and clerk. After making short work of the clerk, he grabs a Walkman, and starts loading up on cassette tapes. Spike has always been selective about his music: Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Cult, and The The. He skips the poofy stuff like Culture Club, Men At Work, and the Talking Heads. He did stock up on Blondie tapes, he hadn't listened to anything they had done, but what the hell. After he is done, Spike stacked a pile of Barry Manilow records. He lits a cigarette and then lits the pile of records. Just thinking of you, Angelus.
