Buffy and Spike walked into the morgue and up to the man who was working there.

“Hello can I help you?” he said.

“Yeah, I got a phone call,” Buffy said, quietly.

The man looked at her blankly.

“The Summer’s academy for the Gifted,” she clarified.

“Oh, yeah,” he said, “Follow me.”

He led them down the hallway and to a pair of swinging double doors.

“All the bodies are in there….Are you sure you can handle this?”

“Yeah,” she said. The man went in first and Buffy was about to follow but she stopped when she noticed Spike was coming, “I have to do this on my own.”

“Why?” Spike asked.

“Because it’s my responsibility,” she said before she entered the room. She didn’t wait for his response.

The room was full of bodies on tables, waiting for her to identify and she did just that while Spike waited outside, watching through the glass window. One by one she told the morgue employee who each person was, then she was handed their death certificate, and the body was wheeled away. She would give all the certificates to Willow later so she could mark in her computer program who was dead and who was missing.

Buffy sighed all the bodies were gone except for one. It was in the middle of the room and it was covered with a cloth. She didn’t know if she could take much more of this. Slowly she got up and pulled away the sheet. She gasped in shock and pain.

“Rupert Giles?” the morgue employee inquired.

“No, no, no,” she said, tears in her eyes as she backed away from the body shaking her head and covering her mouth with her hand.

“Its not?” the guy asked, “Are you okay?”

He watched Buffy leaning against the wall and slide down to the floor. She rested her head on her knees. Spike walked in and looked at the man.

“Is that Rupert Giles?” the man mouthed the words to him.

Spike nodded in response and then knelled down next to Buffy, “Love?”

She looked up at him her eyes glistening with tears.

“I’m just gonna go,” the employee said before he went to move the body out of the room.

“Don’t,” Buffy said getting up to stop him. The man looked at her sympathetically, “I never got a chance to say goodbye.”

He just nodded and left the room, leaving Buffy and Spike alone with Giles’s body. Buffy walked over closer and looked down at the body of her watcher.

“Love,” Spike said, putting his hand on her shoulder.

She spoke but still stared at the body, “It never gets easier does it?”

“No, not really.”

“He was like a dad to me and now he’s gone…just like my mom,” she turned around and looked at him, resolve in her eyes, “I’m going to make who ever did this pay.”

And with that she left, leaving Spike alone and the doors swinging after her.

Spike looked down at Giles’s body and nodded once in recognition, “See you around Rupes,” he said before he placed the sheet back over the man’s face and left to go after Buffy.
