I used a couple of themes from "Becoming". I'll be the first to admit that i didn't come up with them. The rest of the story line and Kayla, however, are mine all mine!

Part Two
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You've gotten slow." Said Kendra's accented voice.
"That's not it." Said Buffy, "It's just not everyday that I get attacked by a bush."
Kendra helped Buffy to her feet and they began walking.
"So- and don't get me wrong, I'm actually happy that you're here, but why are you here?"
"A few reasons. The first is that I've had strange dreams. You're always dying in them. I heard about Acathala, and I came to make sure my dreams aren't prophetic. What are you doing to stop it?"
"Everything we can. I'm glad you're here, you'll be able to help us. Why else did you come here?"
"I've left my watcher."
"Why?" Buffy asked, just now seeing the bag slung over Kendra's shoulder.
Kendra took another deep breath, "I'm afraid to tell you, because I'm afraid you'll over-react."
"I'll try not to. I'll even keep it a secret."
Buffy could tell that whatever it was, it was serious. Kendra looked flat out scared.
"I was sick of his rules. They cost me too much. Do you remember the one that said I couldn't have friends or close family…or love?"
"Yeah, what happened? Did you stand up for your right to them?"
"Yes, and it was a mistake. I had met a boy; one that worked in the fields at the house where I stayed. He became my friend, then he became something else."
"You loved him."
"I did. Which angered my watcher more than I like to remember. When he found out that Christopher- that was his name- that Christopher and I were…seeing each other, he threw Christopher from the house. The very night he left, a vampire took him, while I was inside taking a lecture and a beating from my watcher."
Buffy stopped, "How long ago was this?"
Kendra faced her, "Three nights ago. I'm never going back there. I can't, especially now."
"What do you mean?"
Kendra looked away, trying hard not to meet Buffy's gaze.
Buffy's mind began to wander. She had a theory, but wasn't sure of it. She asked, "Exactly how close did you to get to each other before you were split a part?"
Kendra turned her back to Buffy. She took a few stray steps. After a couple sniffs, she said, "He was my lover. We had one night together about a month and a half ago, but that was it. It only happened once."
Realizing she had been right, Buffy said, "Believe me when I say that once is all it takes."
"I didn't expect any of this, Buffy. All I wanted was to be happy. Now, I'm alone…" Kendra turned back around and hesitated before adding, "and pregnant."
"You're not alone." Buffy put a hand on Kendra's shoulder and began to lead her back towards the school, "C'mon, let's go talk to Giles."
Kendra stopped, "No, you can't tell anyone, not yet."
"Kendra, he can help you."
"How? There's nothing he can do. Besides, you said you'd keep it a secret."
"You're right, I did, but you can't keep this a secret forever. People will eventually figure it out."
"I know. I'm going to tell them, just not yet, not tonight." Buffy hesitated for a second, then said, "Alright. Where are you staying?"
"I'm not sure, yet. I got here less than an hour ago."
"C'mon, you can stay at my house."
With that, the girls left the park, chatting loudly with each other about their lives from the past year.
They were at Buffy's house by 7:45. Buffy gave Kendra complete access to her room, while she went out hunting. When she arrived home an hour later, she found Kendra asleep on her bed. Buffy sighed to herself, then laid out a sleeping bag out on the floor.
As she lay in the bag, trying to get warm, she let her mind wander. She wondered what she would do in Kendra's place. There weren't many options. The only alternative to having the baby was abortion. Buffy didn't like the thought, but there wasn't much else that could be done. A second later, Kendra spoke up. She'd awoken when Buffy had come home.
"What am I gonna do?" she asked.
Buffy could here the pain in her voice. She sat up and turned on the light. Kendra looked at her with reflecting eyes. Buffy was surprised. She'd never seen Kendra like this. It simply wasn't like her to be so emotional.
"I don't know." She said, "Can I ask you something?"
Kendra nodded.
"Do you want to have this baby?"
"I really don't have a choice."
"I know, but do you want it?"
Kendra thought about that for a few seconds, "I always wanted children. I just didn't want them so soon."
"Just to let you know, you do have a choice. It's not a great one, but it's a choice."
"You mean kill it?"
"Yeah." Buffy said quietly, "Look, I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone. I don't like it either, but this is a matter of safety. How are you gonna kill vampires, or even protect yourself from them?"
Kendra turned away. Faced with these options, she was even more confused now. Buffy was right, but she didn't like the idea of killing something that didn't have to die, especially something that was living inside of her. She shook her head, "No. I can't. I'm sorry, but it's wrong."
"It's alright. I don't know if I could do it either."
"Well, you're lucky. You'll probably never be in my position. You boyfriend can't produce children."
"Uh…actually, he can."
"I thought vampires couldn't have kids."
"It was part of the spell that Ms. Calendar cast."
"I heard about what happened to her. How's Giles taking it?"
"He's doing alright. His fuse has definitely shortened. Now, when he gets mad, he gets mad, but I think he's gonna be ok."
Just then, there was a tap at the window. The girls turned around and saw Angel at the window. Buffy got up and let him in.
"Hey Kendra." He said, "What are you doing here?"
"Uh…" she began.
"Long story." Said Buffy, "What are you doing here?"
"I just found this taped to my door." He handed her a note, which read: Bring us the Slayer or die tonight.
"Can they get any dumber?" she said, giving the note to Kendra.
"What will you do?" she asked.
"I don't know." Angel told her, "They seem really confident. Whatever they're gonna do, they're gonna do it tonight."
"We need to find out what they've got on you." Said Buffy.
"I know." He agreed.
Buffy sighed, "Give me a few minutes."
She grabbed some clothes and went into the bathroom to change. She came out in black pants and a dark green baby tee. Kendra was up and putting on a jacket.
"Stay here, Kendra." Said Buffy.
"Why? I can help you. I'm a slayer, too, remember?"
"I know, but they aren't after you. Besides, if they come here looking for me or Angel, I need you to be here to kick their butts." Kendra gave her an annoyed look, "Fine."
Buffy pulled on her boots and said, "We need to talk to Giles."
"Let's go." Said Angel.
They left the room through the window and jumped down to the porch. Ten minutes later, they arrived at Giles' house. They told him about the note. All he said was, "Lay low for the night, both of you. The less they see of you two about, the better."
"Why would they want me? What good would I be to their ritual." Asked Buffy.
"The ritual may call for someone pure of heart. That's the only explanation I can give you."
They left his house, unhappy with the advice they'd been given, but accepting of it.
"I hate it when he gives simple solutions like that." Said Buffy.
"You were in the mood to bust some head, huh?"
"Yeah, he's always ruining my fun."
Angel smiled, "You wanna come over for a while? We're hiding so, we may as well hide together."
"Sounds good." She said, slipping her hand into his as they walked.
When they got to his apartment, Angel insisted on going in first to look around. He wanted to make sure that there was no one in there. He soon came out and gave her the Ok.
As he straightened up his apartment, Buffy grabbed one of the books Angel had taken home from the library. She hopped onto the bed and started reading. She lay down holding the book open, above her. When Angel finished he joined her. He put his arm around her as he read. Buffy flipped through it and finding no more useful information, she put it down.
"So, what's the long story with Kendra? What made her pay us a visit?" Angel asked.
"She knew that something was going on down here, so she came to check it out."
"What does her watcher think of that?"
"Well, he doesn't really know. She left him."
"Why?"
Buffy hesitated, "Can you keep a secret?"
"This is serious, isn't it?"
"Yeah. You can't tell anyone. You have to swear on your life, well, your… existence that you won't tell anyone."
"I swear, I won't say anything."
"She's pregnant."
"This is bad. You know that right?"
"I know. She's so scared right now. I mean, I kind of understand what she's going through, but not. Does that make sense?"
"Perfect sense. Is she gonna have it?"
"Yes, which, I think is what scares her the most."
"What about the father?"
"He's dead."
"A teenager, a single mother and on top of that, a slayer. She's in for some rough times."
"Yeah."
"Are you afraid of that?"
"What?"
"Are you afraid that you're gonna end up like her?"
Buffy paused, "A little, but that's normal, right? Aren't most teenage girls afraid of that? But, I think if it did happen to me, I would be lucky. I have the best people in the world as my friends, a supportive mother, a watcher, who's like a second father to me, and I've got you. I would have a lot going for me and I happen to know not many teen mothers can claim the same."
Angel kissed the top of her head, "You're right, you would be lucky."
She swung an arm around his waist and laid her head on his middle.
"Yeah. Hopefully, I won't end up in her position anytime soon. I mean, I want kids, but not now. I'm having enough trouble dealing with the present to even consider the future. Like this note you got. If they're really out to get us, I'm gonna concentrate on getting through the night."
Angel smiled and tightened his grip around her. His smile didn't last long as his thoughts soon turned to the note. He wondered why there had been no attack yet. A second later, the phone rang. Angel moved to answer it, but Buffy said, "I'll get it."
She got up from the bed and answered the phone.
"Hello…Hi, yeah, we're fine…I would have called, but I didn't want to wake up my mom….How did you find the number?…Uh huh….Uh huh….Alright…No, I'm gonna stay here tonight. I should be back before 5…Alright, bye."
Buffy returned to her spot on the bed.
"That was Kendra." She said, "She wanted to know what happened to us."
After a few minutes, Buffy began to drift off to sleep. Her eyes became heavy and she was very comfortable where she was. Within minutes, she had dozed off.
She woke up suddenly to the sound of shattering glass. She and Angel both sat up quickly. A stone had flown through the window. Angel opened the window and was about to climb out, when there was a pounding on the door. He moved to the door, saying, "Go out the window, try and find them!"
He moved out the door and saw the form of a vampire in the dark hall. He couldn't see the vampire's face clearly, but the way it moved told Angel what he was dealing with. He attacked it quickly.
