I admit it, I borrowed some themes and a few lines from the episode "Becoming" I'm sory, but it really helped the story. Anyway, the only thin in this that I own is Kayla.

Part One
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Angel chased the vampire down the dark hall. Why he was there, Angel didn't care. He pulled a stake from his jacket and ran faster.
When he reached the door, the vampire realized that he was trapped. The door was stuck. Angel threw a punch, hitting the vampire in the stomach. The vampire ran from the door, but soon found himself trapped in a corner. He wished there were more lighting; it was hard to see.
Angel didn't hear the door open and someone run in, but when he felt the stake impale the vampire's body, he realized that something was wrong. Instead of hearing a short yell, then the sound of the stake hitting the floor, he heard a familiar voice cry out in pain. A second later, the lights turned on, revealing the gruesome sight. Buffy stood before him, facing the other vampire. Blood covered her back and a stake was lodged in her diaphragm. After a second of standing there, she fell into the arms of the other vampire, who laid her down and held her.
When the vampire looked up, Angel, who had not yet recovered from the shock of his action, received a second shock. He and the vampire locked eyes for what seemed like an eternity. The vampire soon returned his attention to Buffy.
Without moving his mouth, Angel heard his voice say, "Buffy! Buffy, talk to me! C'mon, please don't leave me like this."
Angel listened as the vampire pleaded for her life with his voice. Again the vampire looked up. Angel soon realized the impossible: He was looking at himself. He turned around and saw Buffy standing in the doorway. Her hand was on the light switch and she looked just as confused as he did.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Buffy, wait up!"
Buffy turned around and saw Cordelia chasing her down the hall. Cordelia stopped running and walked though the freshly cleaned area of the floor. In her stiletto heels, she was afraid she'd slip on the wet spot. Finally, she caught up to Buffy, who was on her way to the library.
"Cordelia, you're looking rather frantic this morning. What's the sitch?" Buffy asked as she strolled on.
"Did you do the math homework?"
Buffy stopped. "Homework?"
"Yeah, you know, the work you do at home? Did you do it?"
Buffy began to walk again as dismay spread across her face. "The second week of school and already I'm gonna fail."
"Look, I don't have time for you to be Miss Lack-of-confidence here. I need that work."
"C'mon. Willow probably did it."
They rushed to the library. Willow sat in a chair reading a book with a strange looking creature on the cover.
"Hey Will, what's up?" asked Buffy.
Cordelia, who frantically said, "Willow, did you do the math homework?" drowned out the last part of Buffy's question.
Willow remained with her nose in the book and pointed to her binder, which sat on the table. Cordelia opened it and soon found the work. Buffy joined her at the table. It was then that she realized how dark the room was. The shades were pulled on all the windows.
"Is Angel here?" she asked Willow, who, again not looking up from her book, pointed to one of the bookshelves, in the back.
"Can you make me a copy?" Buffy asked Cordelia.
"Ok, but don't expect me to do this everyday." she answered.
Buffy walked quietly to the back where Willow had pointed. Before she got there, Giles came storming out of his office.
"Where have you been?" he asked sharply, "We are having an emergency and you dawdle in at- What time is it? - 7:30!"
Buffy hadn't expected this explosion; she stepped back and backed right into someone. She turned and found Angel behind her.
"Relax." He told Giles, "We're doing all we can."
"Yeah." Said Buffy, "Cordelia was late too, why aren't you yelling at her?"
"Because she can't stop something this critical." He said with as much accusation as before.
For the first time ever, Buffy was scared of him. He looked as though he would attack her for being late. Angel put a hand on her shoulder and began to lead her away from the enraged watcher.
"I'll fill her in." he said.
When they had sat down at a table next to Willow's, Buffy asked,
"What was that all about?"
"We're having a bit of a crisis. Hey, Will, could you hand me one of those?"
Willow handed him a book from the pile, which sat beside her. He opened it to a page in the middle of the book. There was a huge creature on it, with a sword in it's heart. It didn't look friendly.
"This is Acathala." Said Angel, "One of the cruelest creatures to ever walk the Earth; A demon who came forth to swallow the world. Before he could do it, a virtuous knight killed him. He was then turned to stone and buried, where they thought he'd be safe."
"So, let me guess, some vamps went digging."
"No, he was dug up by J&J Construction Company, last week."
"So, what's the deal? He turned to stone."
"The deal is that last night he was stolen from the museum, where he'd been brought to." Angel then handed her a newspaper, "The man who was studying Acathala was found dead last night, drained of all his blood."
"You think it was Spike?"
"I think so."
"Well, he can't do anything, right?" the question was directed toward
Giles who had just walked down the stairs, "I mean, Acathala is still trapped in stone, isn't he?"
"That's why we're here." Said Giles, "We're making sure that his transformation is permanent."
"And if it's not?"
"Then we find Spike. He has to have it. What would anyone else do with it?"
Buffy picked up a book and began reading. She told others what she found, but they had all found the exact same info. It had been the same a few months before when they'd researched The Judge: a lot of references, but very little information.
A few minutes later, the bell rang. Angel took a few books and went home, while each of the kids grabbed a book and headed for class. Giles stayed in the library and went book by book, searching for something he thought he'd never find.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Class was boring. That was painfully obvious to everyone. It was fourth period and the day had been slow. Luckily, today was a review of all they had learned in History the year before, giving the kids the perfect chance to read through the books they'd brought to class. Each leafed through the books, reading things that they found interesting and taking notes.
Buffy heard her name whispered. She looked over at Willow who sat next to her. Willow gave her a folded piece of paper. She read it, then wrote a note on it and passed it back. By the end of the class, the paper looked like this:
*Found anything, yet?*
(Not yet, you?)
*Nope. All the books say the exact same thing. You really think this thing will send us to hell?*
(Anything's possible. I figured you knew that by now
Xander soon intercepted the letter.
(I take it you haven't found anything either.)
*Yup, only we found even less about the judge.* (Don't remind me.)
*Like what? The Bronze is closed, tonight.*
(You guys have fun, I get the feeling, I'll be stuck inside tonight. I'll probably have to research this stupid demon all night.)
When the bell rang, the letter was deposited safely in the trashcan. The three of them were walking toward the library to give Giles the news, when Buffy heard her name called from across the hall. She looked to her left and saw Ms. Howard standing in the doorway of her classroom.
"I'll meet you guys there." Said Buffy to her friends.
She walked to the classroom and entered. Ms. Howard shut the door behind her.
"Hi, Ms. Howard." Said Buffy.
"Have a seat." Teri said, gesturing to a chair, which sat next to her desk, "How was your summer?"
"It could have been better." Buffy said as she sat down in the chair. Teri remained standing.
"Well, let me just get down to business, um… you've heard the rumors going around about Ms. Calendar, haven't you?"
"Rumors?"
"Don't tell me you haven't heard them. People are saying that she's in a coma at the hospital, others are saying that she's dead. All I know is that she isn't working here anymore. No one seems to know exactly what happened. The only person who would know, is Mr. Snyder but he quit before anyone could ask him. Now, I know that you two were close. Do you know anything?"
Buffy considered lying to her. She wanted to deny everything, but she couldn't. Ms. Howard had been Jenny's friend. She had a right to know.
"Sit down, Ms. Howard" said Buffy. Teri sat in the chair behind her desk.
Buffy took a deep breath and began, "About a month ago, Ms. Calendar was in a car crash with Mr. Giles."
"I knew that, I just haven't had the chance to talk to him about it."
"Um, anyway, the crash killed her."
Teri took a deep breath. She'd been afraid of this. She put her elbow on her desk and leaned against her hand.
"I'm sorry." Said Buffy, suddenly feeling really bad, "I don't think I was the one who should have told you, but-"
Teri lifted a hand to stop her, "It's alright."
Buffy stood and lifted her bag, "Are you gonna be Ok?
Teri hesitated a second, then nodded, "I'll be fine. I just need a couple minutes."
Buffy left the room, shutting the door behind her.
She made her way to the library, feeling slightly unnerved. When she got there, Giles looked upset.
"What happened?" asked Buffy.
"What Xander found is not good news." Giles answered her, "Acathala can be awakened, with the correct ritual. If Spike were to get his hands on it… I hate to think what would happen. The fact that he stole Acathala, already suggests that he has the ritual."
"If he has it, why are we still here? Wouldn't he have done it by now?"
"He's probably doing something wrong, or waiting for the right time."
Willow came out of one of the backrooms.
"Ok, can someone please explain the ‘…and he will suck the world into hell…' part? Because that's the part I'm not loving."
"The demon world is a world separate from our own. Acathala had the ability to pull our world into it, leaving any non-demon creature subject to unbearable and eternal torment."
"So, they mean hell literally." Distress crossed Willow's face. She let out a small whimper and returned to the backroom.
The rest of the day was just as slow as the beginning. When school finally let out, Buffy went to the library, where she remained, as she suspected she would. She didn't leave until it was dark. At about 7:30, she shoved some books into her bag, pulled up the hood on her jacket and began the walk home.
She stopped for a second on her detour through the park. Her stop was made while crossing the bridge that went over a small creek. She could see, through the clearing of the trees, the moon. It wasn't normally like her to stop for such sentimental reasons, but she was glad that she did.
She started walking again and was soon stopped by something else. A footstep behind some bushes caught her attention. She reached inside her jacket to get a stake. Before she reached it, she felt her feet get kicked out from under her. She looked up and a half smile spread across her face as she looked at her attacker. Kendra smiled down at her.
