NOTE: Takes place three months after Star Trek: Nemesis
Jean-Luc Picard sits in his ready room onboard the Enterprise-E. The repairs from the battle against the Remins was almost complete. Of course, the biggest damage was in the bow after he ordered his ship to ram the enemy ship. His thoughts drifted towards his ship....it feels empty. Most of the senior staff he has worked with for 15 years was gone. The only one still aboard was Commander Geordi LaForge, his chief engineer. He had offered the first officer's position to him, but LaForge declined. Picard still promoted him to full commander. Captain Will Riker and his new wife Deanna Troi was commanding the USS Titan, Beverly Crusher was now head of Starfleet Medical on Earth, and the last he had heard of Worf was that he was back on DS9. And of couse, there was Data.
All of the people he had meet, an android turned out to be his best friend. Picard missed him. He had sacrificed himself to save his captain and his ship. The intercom buzzed.
PICARD-
"Yes." It was his new first officer Commander Tim Ortiz.
ORTIZ-
"Captain....Captain Giles is on board. He's on his way to see you."
PICARD-
"Thank you, Mr. Ortiz." He still couldn't bring himself to call Ortiz 'number one'. It's strange that Giles didn't tell him that he was coming onboard. Giles was in charge of Starfleet historical research teams, and was a good friend of Picard's. The door opens and Giles walks.
GILES-
"Jean-Luc, how are you?"
PICARD-
"Fine, Rupert. What brings you to the Enterprise?"
GILES-
"There is an uncharted planet near Bajor. I have talked to Starfleet Command and they agree we should study it."
PICARD-
"And you need a ride over there."
GILES-
"If we're not too busy. I'll have my team beamed over when we ready."
PICARD-
"Make it so. I'll set up some guest quarters."
GILES-
"Thank you."
PICARD-
"Any time."
A few hours later, the team was on the Enterprise. Giles introduced them to Picard and Ortiz.
GILES-
"Captain, may I introduce Lieutenant Commander Buffy Summers, Dr. Willow Rosenberg, Chief Xander Harris, Lieutenant Tara Maclay, Dawn Summers, and Faith Lehane."
PICARD-
"It's good to meet all of you. If you'll follow me, I show you your quarters." Picard had already reviewed the files on them. Giles was one of the few people in Starfleet who worked so well with both Starfleet Officers and cillivans. Buffy Summers was the youngest in Starfleet to reach the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Her sister, Dawn, was a student studying under Giles. Willow Rosenberg holds three doctarates in history, exotic languages, and alien cultures. Tara Maclay held the same degrees that Willow holds, but she was if Starfleet. Xander Harris was an enlisted man who basic job was engineering. The only one who didn't have a file was Faith Lehane, which made Picard a little nervous about her. He was going to keep his eye on her.
