“Hey, over here I think I found them.” Buffy called over to Boothe and Brennan.
“They look like the bones in the picture that my colleague sent me. We have to get them back to Zac immediately.” Brennan said.
“No can do, Bones. One I am not driving all the way back to D.C. tonight and two we have to get you somewhere to get that cut of yours cleaned up.” Boothe said.
“You can stay at my place for a little while if you need to.” Buffy offered.
“Thank you, so where did your friend go running off to so fast?” Boothe asked as he continued to hold Brennan up.
“I’m not sure, I think he might have gone to my house though. It’s like home for him.” Buffy said as she thought worriedly about Spike.
“Then to your house we go.” Boothe said a little cheerfully as he started towards the car.
“Where are you going?” Brennan asked when they got to the car. Buffy had started to walk away because she was going to run home.
“I thought that maybe I would run.” Buffy said honestly.
“It’s freezing out and it’s also starting to rain. You’ll get sick.” Boothe said caringly and Brennan gave him a quizzical look.
“What, I’ve got a kid so I have fatherly feelings and whatnot.” Boothe explained. This Agent Boothe was bugging her, he was reminding her of someone she knew but she wasn’t able to put a finger on it.
“You can ride with us.” Brennan offered and Buffy accepted, thankful that she wasn’t going to have to walk or run home like usual. Buffy didn’t talk all that much other than to give Boothe directions to her house.
“You guys can hang your coats up there.” Buffy said as she shrugged over jacket and hung it on the coat rack. When she turned around to face them she saw something she wasn’t expecting.
“Angel?” Buffy said wide-eyed.
“You know Angela?” Brennan asked.
“What? Who’s Angela and what are you doing here Angel?” Buffy asked and they could tell she was in a tiny state of shock.
“Who’s Angel?” Boothe asked.
“You’re not Angel?” Buffy asked confused as she looked at Boothe who seemed just about as confused as she was.
“No. I told you my name is Seely Boothe. Are you ok, Miss?” Boothe asked looking concerned.
“Um, yeah, you just look like a friend of mine. You guys can sit on the couch, I’ll be right back.” Buffy said as Boothe and Brennan went over to the couch and Buffy ran upstairs to get the first aid kit. This Boothe guy was throwing her off, he looked too much like Angel and it bothered her. Buffy got the kit and headed downstairs.
“So you ready to get cleaned up?” Buffy asked trying to sound cheery.
“Yes, please” Brennan said. Boothe was sitting in the armchair across from the couch and Brennan was on the couch. Buffy couldn’t tell whether or not they liked each other or at least one of them liked the other. Buffy cleaned up Brennan’s cut and put some clear medical tape on it to keep it closed.
“Thank you.” Brennan said when she was done.
“Your welcome. It should heal nicely. Just get some rest. I’ll be right back.” Buffy said and she started to head towards the kitchen. She got a pouch of blood out of the frig and poured into what she figured was Spike’s favorite mug and popped it into the microwave. She knew he was in the basement so she headed there.
“You down here, Spike?” Buffy called from the top of the steps even though she was able to feel im.
“No.” came the British response.
“Well, I guess I’ll have to take this human blood back upstairs since nobody’s down here.” Buffy said smiling to herself. She knew what she was doing was wrong but she also knew no matter what, Spike couldn’t resist human blood.
“Fine, I’m here.” Spike said and Buffy made her way down the steps.
“Here you go.” Buffy said as she handed him the mug and then sat down next to him on the cot.
“You want to know what happened back there don’t you?” Spike questioned after he had completely downed the blood, which had taken longer than Buffy had expected but she didn’t think to much of it.
“Yeah I do. I’ve never known you to freak when you saw a set of bones. What happened?” Buffy said looking at him concerned.
“It’s a really long story. I don’t think you want to hear it.” Spike said as he laid his head against the wall.
“I’ve got plenty of time Spike and I do want to hear it.” Buffy said taking his hand in reassurance.
“Fine.” Spike said and then he started the story. “About a hundred or so years before Angel was turned a man was sired. Around the year 1758 he got his soul returned to him just as Angelus had, he fell in love and found a way to become human. About twenty years after becoming human again he was again sired. His soul stayed in tact though but it was changed. It was evil. It wasn’t like any soul anybody had heard of. One year, about a couple years after Dru turned me a slayer killed him. His bones were cursed or something because every time a vampire gets near them they kind of become all nancy boyish.” Spike said with his eyes closed.
“That’s why you ran then?” Buffy asked looking at him and he nodded yes.
“That’s nothing to be ashamed about. Why don’t you get some rest?” Buffy said as she got up off the cot and picked up the empty mug. Right before she headed upstairs she gave Spike one more look at. He seemed a little different to her but she didn’t know what it was.
