Faith walked into the common room that housed most of the survivors of the battle. Buffy was sharing a joke with Kennedy and Vi but noticed her facial expression almost immediately.
“B,” Faith said looking at the blonde slayer-general, “You might want to sit down for this.”
A few minutes later Faith, Buffy, Willow and Kennedy were sitting in the latter two’s room discussing the news. “So Dawn came on to Xander and he went into our room with her?” Buffy asked for the millionth time.
“Now Buffy take a deep breath and stay calm.” Willow said in her most motherly voice.
“I don’t know if calm is what is needed here Red.” Faith said, “Do you think it’s a good idea for them to, ah well, get groinal with each other.”
“No absolutely not,” Buffy said as she got up to start pacing the floor. “He’s way to old for her, and he just lost Anya, and she’s my little sister, and, and , and…” Buffy looked at Willow pleadingly for support on her rant.
“And he has fought by your side for seven years, saved the world once by his lonesome, been both of your best friends regardless of your mistakes, is hurting and the little minx may actually be good for him, and vice-versa.” Buffy looked at Kennedy as if she had grown another head and spoke Klingon. Willow looked up with Kennedy with an admiration in her eyes that hadn’t previously been there.
Faith smiled and nodded. “When you put it that way, how soon do you think we should wait before we throw them at the alter?” Buffy turned towards her in shock. “Not that we shouldn’t make sure nothing happens now” Faith backpedaled, “no one brought that kinda protection on this field trip.”
Buffy turned three shades paler as she ran full tilt out the door towards her room. Kennedy and Faith couldn’t catch up with her in time to stop her from running into her room prepared for God-knew-what. The banging of the door woke the two up and they turned to see Buffy in the doorway.
“Hey sis,” Dawn said as Xander stood up to greet his bud, only to collapse as his still asleep leg wouldn’t support his weight. Dawn giggled behind her hand.
“Well Dawn,” Kennedy said from the doorway, “ you sure know how to knock a cute guy off his feet.”
This caused both Dawn and Xander to break out into laughter. Buffy saw Xander’s mouth form into his toothsome grin as he laughed. For the first time she would ever admit Buffy agreed with Kennedy. When the laughter subsided Buffy asked quickly, “What do you two want for lunch?” She had to cover her embarrassing blunder somehow.
