William ‘Spike’ Giles had been taught all during his childhood that he should be polite and he always visibly showed his politeness up to the age of 13, but the day he turned 13 something happened where he would be all snotty and talk back to all the grownups he could and talk to all the ‘losers’ in his school nasty like. His Dad of course thought it had to do with the new friends he had made and the fact that he had lost his mom. He was right actually but however nasty he got he never let it go past the limit of being inappropriate especially toward girls and woman.
“Hey, Spike. How’s it goin’?” Spike’s neighbor Buffy Summers said as Spike came down his stairs into the kitchen. Buffy and Spike would carpool to school. Even though it was evident that Spike had changed Buffy didn’t seem to care and Spike liked that. Even though he didn’t admit that they were friends at school he always was willing to do whatever Buffy asked. They had been friends since they were 4. Buffy did have a boyfriend though. His name was Liam ‘Angel’ Walsh. Buffy had been going out with him since the beginning of their junior year.
“Hey, Buffy. My dad says that he’s going to take you today.” Spike said giving Buffy no explanation why.
“Why? Everything ok, Willoid?” Buffy said using her old nickname for him.
“Yeah, said I was sick, but truth is I feel fine I decided that I was going to skip today. Have a test in Chemistry and let’s just say I didn’t quite study.” Spike whispered to her not wanting his dad to hear.
“That test is today! Oh my gosh I completely forgot about it! I’ll be right back.” Buffy said as she ran out of the door leaving behind a baffled Spike who had now sat down in the kitchen chair feeling relieved that she had bought it but not sure why she had run off.
Spike wasn’t sitting alone for too long because in a little less five minutes Buffy was back.
“Alright. I used the same excuse that you used Spike except I may have spun it a little. I told her that my head hurt and that you were sick too. She figured that I had just gotten sick from you. If you hadn’t told me about the test I would have been dead. She said that I could stay over here while she was at work isn’t that great although I don’t see why I can’t stay at home by myself at the age of 17 sorry that bugs me.” Buffy said speaking at a speed that if you didn’t know her you would have been lost at what she was saying.
She sat down at the table with Spike knowing that her mom had already called Spike’s dad by now to let him know that Buffy wasn’t going to school.
“That’s great.” Spike said hoping he sounded enthusiastic not wanting Buffy to think he didn’t want her around, because he loved having her around and they never truly got to be with each other since he was always with his other friends and she was with Liam or Angel as he liked to be called, but today he didn’t want her around at least not around him she was fine if she just stayed somewhere else in the house that he wasn’t in.
Usually Buffy noticed when something was bugging Spike but that morning she was too busy thinking about the day and the test that she was going to have to make up when she got back and she did something she rarely did, study. Spike could see that she had her mind on the book she was looking at so he decided to head into the living room to watch some TV. That wasn’t the best idea though because the moment Buffy heard the TV go on she decided that she had had enough studying and went to sit on the couch with Spike, laying her head on his shoulder in a friendship manner, to watch TV.
“Whatcha watching?” Buffy asked after she settled in.
“Nothing yet. Doesn’t seem to be much on at this hour. Wanna watch a movie?” Spike said as he looked down at Buffy. At the mention of a movie Buffy got up to look at the collection of movies.
“What do you want to watch?” Buffy asked knowing that he would probably choose his all time favorite movie Life as a GI but instead he surprised her by saying, “How about you pick the movie, I always do.”
“Um thanks.” Buffy said still surprised that he didn’t want to watch Life as a GI but before she questioned him she decided that she mind as well pick a movie and get back to her place on the couch.
She knew Spike had fallen asleep, as she figured he would, by his easy breathing and the slight snoring sound that turned into big snoring sounds that came out of him. They were half way through the movie when Buffy’s cell phone rang.
“Hello?” Buffy said pausing the movie and going into the kitchen so she wouldn’t wake Spike.
“Hey, Buffy. It’s me Willow. Where are you?” Willow said on the other line.
“Oh I’m at Spike’s. We both kinda skipped since we completely forgot to study, and I know that if I do bad on the next or this test I guess you could say I am band from hanging out with you, Xander and everybody after school for at least two months and with Spike I don’t know if I would be able to handle that since I can only see him in the early morning in the car where I sleep half the time and after school and that’s not even all the time so I kinda freaked and lied to my mom telling her basically that Spike got me sick.” Buffy said knowing that Willow was really the only other person of her group of friends that could like Spike, Angel didn’t even like him, even though Buffy told him he could trust him and that he wasn’t a bad guy.
“Ok. As long as you’re ok. How about I stop by later after school. Maybe I’ll bring Angel with me.” Willow said knowing that Buffy would enjoy seeing him.
“Alright, just make sure you come to Spike’s house and not mine.” Buffy said
“Ok, well I gotta go lunch is half way over and I haven’t quite eaten yet so I’ll see you later.” Willow said and both of them said good-bye and hung up. When Buffy turned around to go back in the living room to finish the movie she saw Spike standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
