Connor and Dawn walked side by side. They had just left the dance to get a little fresh air and to just talk and be alone together.
“Hey Dawn, you feel like going somewhere more private?” Connor asked her, holding out his hand.
“There’s no one around how much more private can you get?” Dawn asked, missing her cue.
“No, I mean….”
“Oh,” Dawn said in realization, her eyes winding slightly, “Oh, you mean. Umm….”
“Hey listen if you don’t want to I understand,” Connor told her, “I love you but I can wait.”
Dawn smiled at him, “You never said that before.”
“That I can wait?”
“No, I love you.”
“Oh,” Connor smiled and blushed a little, “Yeah that’s first time I ever told a girl that well one that wasn’t related to me.”
Dawn kissed him on the cheek, “I think I love you too.”
“You don’t sound too sure.”
“I am, trust me. I wouldn’t be doing this if I wasn’t,” she said, taking his hand to indicate she was ready to take the next step in their relationship.

The whole experience was nice. It was exactly how a first time should be Dawn that. It involved kissing and the slow removal of clothing, whispers of affection, and vows of undying love. They had been smart and used protection. She had peaked and so had he. It was perfect and yet somehow when Dawn woke up the next morning in the sleeping arms of her lover she couldn’t help but feel like a lost little girl. She had given him the one thing she could never get back, her virginity. The night was magical but she still couldn’t help and wonder if it would end in heart ache or if he had just told her he loved her to get her into bed.
Dawn dismissed the thoughts as she put on the button up shirt he had worn last night, a pair of underwear, and she threw her hair up in a messy bun. She smiled at Connor’s sleeping form and sighed she had really fallen hard for him. It was all goose bumps and butterflies every time she saw him, when they touched, and when he smiled at her. That smile Dawn thought it made her knees go weak and all wobbly. She walked outside and leaned on the porch railing she reflected on the events of last night and the past few weeks.
“Hey,” Connor said, softly coming up and leaning next to her. His hair was all messed up from sleep and he was wearing his undershirt and the pants he had worn last night.
“Hey,” she replied, softly.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, it just….it was my first time.”
“It was my second,” Connor said almost guiltily, “I’m sorry I should have told you.”
“No, its okay.”
“Do you regret it?” Connor asked, afraid of the answer.
“No, it was…..perfect.”
“Yeah, it was…much better then my first time.”
“Really?”
“Oh yeah,” Connor said with a laugh, “Come on we should be heading back before we’re missed.”
Dawn nodded, “I kinda wish I could stay here forever in this moment, you know?”
“Yeah, I do,” Connor said and Dawn knew he wasn’t lying he really did understand and he really did love her.
Any doubts she had had disappeared. They weren’t the 3 little words every woman wished to here from the man she loved but they conveyed an understanding and in some ways they meant a lot more then the other 3 special words he had said earlier or at least they meant just as much.
