Part Two

"Rupert, if you ever drag me to another foreign film, I may have to hurt you."
"At least we didn't go to another one of your truck rally things."
"Well you can at least understand what they're saying at a monster truck rally."
"How? With all the screaming."
Jenny gave a slight laugh. She liked fighting with him.
Married life is gonna be fun, she thought with a smile.
"What?" asked Giles, "What's so funny?"
"Nothing." She said, refocusing her attention to the road ahead of her.
"C'mon, tell me."
"I'm just thinking good thoughts." She looked at him and said, "I was just imaging the future."
"Really, what did you see?"
"I saw us, talking like this for the rest of our lives."
"Is that a good thing? We were fighting, you know?"
"Yeah, I know. I like that aggressive side of you. It's so rare, but it's so good, too. You should definitely do it more often." Her voice seemed to tease him. He liked it.
"I'll try." he said.
By now, Jenny was no longer paying attention to the road. She
remembered it suddenly and looked up. Standing in the road, was a man. Jenny swerved to avoid him, but couldn't. She hit him hard and the car spun out of control. It hit a parked car, causing Jenny to hit her head on the steering wheel and Giles to hit the dashboard. For a second, Giles lifted his head from the dashboard. Jenny was unconscious and bleeding heavily, next to him. When he looked past her, he saw a figure. His vision was blurred, but he could tell, it was the man they had hit. He stood in the window, staring at Jenny. He looked for a moment at Giles, then walked away. A second later, Giles passed out.

"I'll get it." Buffy yelled through the house. She got up and answered the door.
A Fed-ex man stood on the other side.
"Hi. I have a letter for Buffy Summers." he said.
"That's me."
She signed the form, then took the letter.
That's weird, she thought, I got a letter from Willow a few days ago.
She opened the envelope and read:
Dear Buffy,
I'm afraid this isn't a happy letter, like they usually are. I'm writing to you from a hospital waiting room, with Xander, Cordelia, Angel and Kayla, where we're waiting for news on the conditions of Giles and Jenny. Last night, they were in an accident, while coming back from a movie. They're both in comas and the doctors don't know when they're gonna wake up.
I'm scared, Buffy and frankly so is everyone else. As I look at everyone, I can tell exactly what they're thinking. Cordelia's going through a major internal conflict. She wants to stay but she also wants to get home so that she can sleep and be at work on time. Angel is constantly looking at his watch. It's about 5:00 AM. He needs to go home soon, but he wants to stay to find out if they're alright. Kayla is worried about him. She keeps telling to get his butt home, so that he doesn't get caught in the sun on the way, but he hasn't decided what to do. I can no longer tell you what Xander was thinking, because he has just left. Cordelia and Angel have both followed him out. I'm sitting here with Kayla, who isn't much of a talker. Maybe she will be later.
I'm sorry, I wish I had better news to tell you. Unfortunately, I don't. I'm not expecting you to come back; I just wanted to let you know what was happening. Call me if you can.
Sincerely,
Willow
Before she had even finished reading, Buffy looked up from the paper and screamed "Dad!"

Giles woke from a deep sleep. His dreams had been intense. He had dreamt that he was dead. He and jenny had both been killed when the cars had collided. They seemed to fly above everything and everyone. They were so high that they held stars in their hands. It was a freedom he'd never felt before. Then suddenly, they both fell. They fell from the heavens back to earth. About halfway down, she stopped falling. He released her hand and fell the rest of the way alone, watching her face as he went. Tears streamed and stained it. Slowly, she began to rise again. Then, she disappeared. He woke up soon after hitting the ground.
When he opened his eyes, he realized that he was not on the hard ground, where he'd expected to be. He lay in a hospital bed and Buffy stood over him. Actually, she was sitting in a chair, next to the bed, watching him.
"You're awake!" she exclaimed.
Giles just stared at her for a few seconds, then asked, "Wha- What are you doing here? You were on vacation."
"Hey, I had to come back. You think I'd stay in LA, while someone I care about is in a coma? I think not."
"I'm sorry to drag you away."
"It's no problem. Do you remember what happened?"
"Yes. There was someone in the road. Jenny tried to avoid him, but the car spun and hit him, then crashed into something."
"You hit someone?"
"Yes."
"But, no one else was brought in. It was just you two."
"We hit him dead on, I remember it quite clearly."
"Are you sure?"
"Damn it, I'm not delusional."
"Do you think it was a vampire?"
"That's probably the only thing that could live through it and still
have the ability to walk away. Oh, how- how's Jenny."
"She- she's, she's still out." Buffy stammered. She hadn't expected that.
"Do they know when she'll wake up?"
Buffy felt her heart twist, "No. Um, I need to go...and...tell everyone that you're Ok. Y-You should get some sleep. I'll be back later."
She got up and headed quickly to the door.
"Buffy" he called her back.
She stopped and turned to him.
"Thank you for coming back home."
"Your welcome." she said in a whisper, then left the room.
As soon as she shut the door, she leaned back against it and cried.
Xander saw her and walked to the door. He hugged her and let her cry on him.
"Did you tell him?" he asked.
"No." she said in between sobs, "I couldn't. I just...I just couldn't. Not yet."
She looked up and saw that her friends were surrounding them. She gently pushed away from him, to gain her self-control.
"He just woke up." she told them, "If he's still awake, now, you guys can go say ‘Hi'. Don't tell him, though. I will, just not now. We'll let him enjoy consciousness for awhile, before we ruin it for him."
It was then that she began to sob again. This time, Angel was her comfort. He held her, while the others went in. A second later, the door was shut and they remained alone in the hallway.
After a few minutes, he said, "C'mon, lets go for a walk."
"It was a vampire." Said Buffy after they had walked around a bit.
"Excuse me?"
"A vampire was in the road. He stood in front of their car. When they swerved to avoid him, they hit the other car."
"Are you sure?"
"That's what Giles said. God, I shouldn't have left."
"It's not your fault. You couldn't have known that this would happen."
"It doesn't matter. I could've killed that vampire awhile ago if I'd been here. Then he wouldn't have been there to get in the way of the car and then Giles wouldn't be in a hospital and Jenny would still be alive."
"How do you know? How do you know that you would have killed him? This could have happened with you here. Trust me Buffy, this isn't your fault."
They soon arrived at the same spot, where they'd begun. Angel looked at his watch.
"I hate to do this, but I have to go. It's almost dawn." He kissed her and said, "I'll see you later."
He turned to leave. He was about halfway down the hall, when she remembered something.
"Angel." she called after him. She walked down the hall to where he'd stopped.
"Do you still have any connections in the underground?" she asked.
"You want me to find out who did this?"
She nodded.
"Consider it done." he said, pulling her in for another hug. He released her, then walked down the rest of the hallway and out the door.
"Thanks." she said quietly after him. She took a seat outside of the room and waited for her friends to come out. They weren't in there for long.
"Ok, I'm gone." Said Cordelia, picking up her things, "I have work in a few hours."
"Can I get a ride?" asked Xander.
"Yeah."
"You gonna stick around, Will?" he asked Willow.
"Just for a little while." she answered, "I can call Oz for a ride."
"I'm staying too." Said Buffy
"Me too." Added Kayla.
"Alright, we'll see you guys later." Said Cordelia. She left the
room with Xander close behind.
When they had gone, Willow said, "He knows, Buffy."
"You told him?"
"No, he knew. I don't know how, but he knew. It was the first thing
he said to us."
Buffy felt horrible. She didn't quite know why. If she had told him, she probably would have felt even worse. Not having told him gave her a feeling of guilt. She felt like crying again, but she didn't know if there were any tears left. Her eyes felt dried out.
"What are we gonna do?" Willow asked, "He told us what happened. What can we do about it?"
"Angel's gonna find out anything that he can and hopefully, we'll find out who did this."
"What if we don't?" asked Kayla.
"Don't worry," said Buffy, "We will."
The three of them didn't stay long. In fact, had their conversation been two minutes shorter, they probably could have caught up to Xander and Cordelia. They decided not to call Oz. It would be rude to wake him up so early, just to go get them. Instead, they walked.
"How are you and Amy getting along?' Buffy asked Kayla as they walked.
"It's going fine. She's very nice. She's taught me everything about this century. She even let me borrow some of her clothes. How about you? How are things in... in- where did you go again?"
"LA. I was having fun. I met with my friend Sheri. Which reminds me, I need to write to her. She needs to know where I went."
The conversation died after that. Everything went silent as they walked along the empty street.
