Buffy walked alone in the graveyard looking for vampires. Spike had offered to go with her and help, but she had told him no and that she needed to be alone, but she was regretting telling him that. She wanted somebody to talk to even if it was about nothing. What Buffy didn't know though, was that Spike had decided to patrol although she had said no and that she was going to meet two people that night that would help her in figuring out a problem.

"Ok, Bones, why again did we agree again to go to Sunnydid, California?" Special Agent Seely Boothe asked as he drove the rented car. He had been driving for about two days and was tired.
"It's Sunnydale and an old colleague of mine thought I might want to check these bones out. They're in a cemetery though, because nobody was able to move them." Pathologist Temperance Brennan said as she looked out the window, watching the passing scenery.
"Great, a graveyard. You know this is probably a practical joke just so to scare the heck out of us and then have a great big laugh and tell everybody they know that two grown people can't handle a set of bones." Boothe said ranting a little bit.
"Boothe, what are you talking about? This man is very trust worthy and would never do a thing like that." Brennan said looking at him confused.
"Sorry, I was a target of a prank in college. I made a bet with this guy that I could spend the night near this one guy's grave and if I did it I would get 50 bucks." Boothe said as he pulled into the driveway of the Sunnydale cemetery.
"What happened? Sounds like things didn't go well." Brennan asked looking at him.
"Well, apparently this guy was supposed to come back every ten years and that was the ten year anniversary and when this guy rose he would be just bones and nothing more. Little did I know, this guy I made a bet with got together with some of his friends and they had taken the skeleton out of the science lab and they were going to dangle it from the tree that was right next to where this guy's grave was. When I saw that thing I ran out of that cemetery so fast you would wonder why I even took up working with you. It was pretty bad and even though I laugh about it sometimes it still gets on my nerves." Boothe said as he and Brennan got out of the car, got their flashlights, and started walking.

"Hello, Slayer, good to see you finally made it." Spike said walking up to Buffy starting her a little bit and even though she was trying to hide it Spike could see that he had done so.
"What are you doing here, Spike? I told you that I want and need to be alone. You know I don't get that at home with all those girls." Buffy said looking at Spike trying to get him to understand and knowing that he probably would, but would persist anyways.
"They're with Giles on that camping trip though and Dawn was with her friend tonight wasn't she?" Spike said smiling a little. Ever since Spike had gotten his soul back Buffy thought his smile looked better and enjoyed seeing it.
"You're right about that, but as much as I enjoy hanging out with just you I needed some time to just think and get out some unwanted feelings on ordinary vampires, which don't seem to be around tonight." Buffy said as she started to walk again.
"Well, don't you think you should save some of you're energy for the big fight instead of wasting all of it on a little vampire, who as much killing it can do won't do as much damage as what's ahead." Spike said sincerely.
"Fine. You can patrol with me, but you owe me alone time when this whole thing is over done with." Buffy said smiling a little.
"Thanks and you got it." Spike said and they walked on in a comfortable silence until Spike seemed to have pick up on something.
"Spike, what is it? What's wrong" Buffy asked, a little concerned, when she notice Spike looking rather pensive.
"Um, humans. They're here. I can smell their blood and hear their heartbeat." Spike said looking around.
"Humans, what would they be…" Buffy was cut off by the sound of a gun firing. Both her and Spike ran towards the sound.

"Get away from her you monster!" Boothe shouted at the creature he was shooting, even though it was obvious that it was doing nothing. All of sudden he saw two people running towards him and Brennan, who was lying on the ground unconscious.
"Are you bloody out of your mind, mate?! Shooting him his only making him angrier!" Spike shouted at him while Buffy started to fight the creature.
"Who are you and what are talking about?" Boothe asked, but was unable to get an answer because Spike had already started to assist Buffy. Boothe decided that while they were fighting he would go and check on Brennan who was still lying on the ground.
"Hey, Brennan, you alright?" Boothe asked, trying to get Brennan to regain consciousness. When he didn't get a response he decided to try something that he would never have done if in any other situation.
"Temperance, wake up. That thing's gone for now." Boothe said softly as he brushed the hair out of her face.
"How is she? The creature's gone, well hopefully, my bo-friend is fighting it and he told me to come check on you two." Buffy said as she came over.
"She should be ok. I need to get her to a hospital." Boothe said not getting up from where he was sitting.
"I think we should take her back to my house I have a first aid kit there and my friend and I can help you figure out what that thing was." Buffy said thinking how she didn't like calling Spike just a friend.
"Are you sure? She has a pretty bad cut on her forehead." Boothe said.
"I'm sure. Trust me, I've had to deal with a few head cuts of my own." Buffy said as Spike came behind her.
"That thing's gone, but not for good. I think we have another problem Buffy." Spike said looking mostly at Buffy.
"Great, this is just what I need. Spike, get, um what's you're name?" Buffy asked suddenly realized nobody had been introduced.
"Special Agent Seely Boothe and this is my partner Temperance Brennan." Boothe said and then Brennan started to stir a little and everybody turned their attention to her.
"Boothe, what the heck was that thing?" Brennan asked as she held her head and tried to sit up but decided it would be better if she didn't.
"I don't know." Boothe said as he looked at Spike and Buffy for answers.
"Hi, I'm Buffy Summers. You're partner agreed to take you back to my house and we should get you cleaned up there." Buffy said as she knelt down to help Brennan up and Spike helped her.
"Thanks. I should be fine, but thanks anyways." Brennan said trying to look like the pain was nothing and she didn't need anybody's help.
"Right, Bones, that's why you can barely stand up without feeling like you're about to fall." Boothe said sarcastically and the way Spike heard him talk to her made him smile.
"Fine, but before we go, we have to look for the bones, Boothe." Brennan said and Boothe knew he wasn't going to get her to back down.
"What bones?" Buffy asked her interest suddenly peaked.
"Nothing, just something my partner and I have to look at." Boothe said.
"I need to know, I know you think that I'm just another person and that if I got involved I could possibly be put in danger, but you're wrong. I can take care of myself, I've been through more than you or your partner can imagine, so don't you think anything like that." Buffy said a little angrily, taking both Brennan and Boothe back a little.
"You better listen to her, mate she's serious about everything she says." Spike said backing Buffy up and Buffy gave him a thankful smile.
"I'll probably get in trouble for this, but fine." Boothe said as he started walking, but stopped when Spike put a hand on his shoulder.
"Help Buffy with the girl. I can see better in the dark and that flashlight won't help all that much." Spike said really not wanting to leave Buffy somewhat alone with another guy, but knew they would find the bones faster if he did.
"Alright." Boothe said and he went over and helped support Brennan even though Buffy could have done it by herself.
They walked in silence for a while until Buffy started to hear what sounded like whimpering and then realized it was coming from Spike.
"Here, you're going to have to take her on by yourself." Buffy said as she eased out of Brennan's arm and headed over to Spike.
"Spike, what's wrong?" Buffy asked worriedly, but Spike ran off before she was able to get an answer. She was about to run after him when she saw the bones.
