Addison Mason danced to the heavy base line in the club’s music. She loved the feeling she got whenever she danced. She had raw power, the power of a Slayer, and fluid grace, the grace of a lifelong dancer. She could feel power surging through her as her hips moved against her boyfriend.
Her boyfriend, not such a great dancer, but he tried for Addison’s sake. The only thing he could do was fight. And work out. Addison told anyone who would listen how hot he looked when he was working up a sweat. His dark, spiky hair and deep, brooding eyes moved over her body as they danced. She knew what he wanted, but she was a tease. He wouldn’t get it.
“Addison!” a female voice said from deep in her mind. She continued dancing as she looked around the club for her Watcher. Her eyes fell on the fire red hair instantly. Sheila Osborne. Daughter of the most powerful witch in the world and one kick-ass werewolf. Both of her parents had died and she was in her late twenties, but she acted like Addison’s best friend. In a way, she was.
Addison didn’t have friends. Not in the sense that most people think of friends. She had acquaintances at school, people she knew, but not well. The only people she ever hung out with were her boyfriend and Sheila. Oh yeah, and the undead.
“What?” Addison thought back.
“There’s a coupla vamps trying to get a girl outside with them. Think you and Angel can spare a minute to save an innocent?” Sheila asked. Addison smiled and tugged on Angel’s sleeve.
“Of course. We’re always up for some violence,” Addison thought. She nodded out the door at Angel’s quizzical look and he smiled in understanding. He knew the vampire world all too well. He had been a vampire once. It had been really weird, the way he got out of that.
After a big battle with an evil law firm, he was given a gift. A very rare gift. He was made immortal, literally. There was NO WAY to kill him until he decided that he wanted to die. He had his superhuman strength and everything too. Big plus.
Addison opened the door leading to the alley and saw two large, male vampires hauling a girl farther into the shadows. Addison looked back at Angel and raised her eyebrows. He shook his head and leaned back to watch.
“You’re so gonna get your ass kicked,” he laughed. The last time he had said those words resounded in his memory. It had been long ago.
At the sound of Angel’s voice, the vampire’s turned around, still clinging tightly to their dinner.
“Well hello boys. Can I ask what you were planning on doing with this pretty little thing?” Addison asked, turning on her natural southern charm.
“Eating her, I reckon,” the biggest vamp shrugged. Addison knew a southerner when she saw one. They may be in Ireland, but she could still pick them out a mile away.
“I don’t think so,” Addison said sadly, shaking her head. She lunged for the southern boy, bending low and taking him out at the knees. He grunted and let go of the girl’s arm as he fell towards te ground.
“Stake!” She shouted. A long wooden stake appeared in her hand and she plunged it into the vampire’s heart.
“Thanks Sheila,” Addison murmured as she stood up, brushing dust from her pants.
“Who are you?” the other vampire asked in a lilting British voice.
“You mean you don’t already know? I’m Addison, the Vampire Slayer.” His eyes grew wide, and if his face had any color, it would have been gone. He dropped the girls other arm and she tore off down the alley, screaming. Addison smiled kindly at the creature, who also took off running.
“Oh no you don’t,” she drawled. She took the stake that had been used on his buddy and tossed it end over end down the alley. It struck him with perfect aim and he exploded into ash. Addison laughed at the ashes piled on the ground.
“They always think they can win,” Angel said, taking her hand and leading her back into the club.
“They never can. Wait, I’m done with the dancing thing,” Addison said, her voice suddenly husky.
“Shouldn’t we at least tell Sheila?” Angel asked, smiling. That smile made Addison melt. Maybe should would give him what he wanted.
“I can tell her on the way.” With that, they headed off to Angel’s waiting limo.

“Mmmm, Angel,” Addison moaned as Angel kissed his way down her neck and lingered at her collar bone.
“What?” he asked, his hot breath tickling her skin.
“Don’t ever stop,” Addison begged. They were in Angel’s bed, in his monstrous house in Dublin. There was a wonderful view of a large lake out Angel’s bedroom window that extended all the way from floor to ceiling.
“You don’t have to ever worry about that my love,” Angel promised.
Later that night, Addison slept fitfully. She was dreaming. Dreaming of a blond woman, wrapping her arms around Angel. Dreaming of the same blond woman killing him, running him through with a sword. She dreamt of a woman with fire red hair chanting a spell, just as her lover died. She saw the blond woman cry. Her dream fast forwarded to a few years in the future. She recognized the Roman skyline. Angel was there with that same blond woman. They were fighting, kissing, making love. Then Angel snuck out, leaving the blond woman only a letter.
Addison bolted upright in bed. She knew that those dreams had been real once. She looked at Angel, sleeping peacefully beside her, and wondered how many times the blond had done the same thing. She knew deep down in her heart that the blond had meant something to Angel. There was so little that Addison knew about his life as a vampire, so little she knew of his life up until a few years before he met her. Addison made a vow to herself. She would not be hurt. If this woman was alive, she would find her. And if not, she would learn everything she could about her life, with and without Angel. And she knew just where to start. Sheila. Addison was almost positive that it had been her mother chanting in the dream.
