Now, you see, most people when they’re told that they should be resting listen to their doctor not Penny, Though, to tell you the truth I couldn’t blame her. it took about two days for the poison to leave her body and as soon as she was well Penny leapt out of bed faster then a jack in the box . . .

The Night-Hawk flew through the open window of the mansion and landed on her perch. The wanderer appeared a moment later carrying food and a large plastic bag. He watched Penny curiously as she sat on the bed furiously tying her shoes.

“Where exactly do you think you’re going?” The Wanderer asked

“I need to find my friends,” Penny replied, “they could be hurt.”

“You’re not in any condition leave.”

Penny shot a look at the wanderer.

“Are you planning on stopping me?” she asked

The wanderer walked over to the table. He placed the bag and the food down and sat on his favorite chair.

“I no I can’t but it doesn’t mean I won’t try.” He replied

“They’re still out there I know it.”

The wanderer sighed. He looked at the slayer seriously.

“I didn’t want to tell you this until I thought you could handle it.”

Penny stopped. She looked up and the old man. The Wanderer sighed as he leaned forward.

“While you were still recovering I headed back to the desert, you know, to see if I could help anyone,” he explained, “When I got there . . .”

Penny’s face dropped. Slowly she sat down on the bed. The Wanderer dropped his head sadly.

“. . . There was no one left. Bodies laid everywhere. I searched for a good hour to see if I could find anyone still alive but there was just nothing.”

Penny looked around in shock. This couldn’t be true. No one was left alive? There had to be someone. Slowly she looked up at the old man.

“I need to see.” She said seriously

The Wanderer looked at her in concern.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea you should . . . “he started

“No offence,” Penny interjected, “but, we’ve only just met and I want to make sure that my friends are really dead.”

The Wanderer thought about Penny’s request. After a moment he nodded

“Alright,” he replied kindly, “But if you’re walking around in blood stained clothes. People are going to start asking questions that you can’t answer.”

He threw the plastic bag at Penny. She looked in side curiously.

“I think their about your size.” The Wanderer continued

“Black?” Penny replied, “You bought all black?”

The Wanderer smirked

“This may surprise you Penny but I’m not an expert on women’s fashions.”

~ Nevada desert, Nevada – 20 minutes later ~

The Night-Hawk swooped down and landed on a rock. A moment later Penny and The Wanderer stepped out from behind it. Penny looked around curiously.

“How did we get here so fast?” Penny asked

The Wanderer gestured to Hope.

“It’s one of her gifts,” he explained, “I don’t know the science or the magic behind it but Hope can take us anywhere almost instantly.”

Penny stared curiously at the amazing small bird. Anybody else would have thought that would have been impossible but what penny has seen over the last few years impossible is a regular occurrence. They stepped down from the rock and that’s when she saw it. Bodies as far as the eye could see. The slayer was completely dumbstruck. They were all dead . . . thousands of slayers . . . all dead. Penny dropped to her knees in complete shock. Out of everything she’s been through this is by far the worst. The Wanderer walked up slowly and places a caring hand on her shoulder.

“I’m so sorry Penny.” He said softly, “I didn’t want you to see this.”

“I-I can’t believe I’m the last one.” she said weakly, “why me?”

“I don’t know why hope picked you but she did,” The Wanderer replied, “These people died honorably and they should be remembered that way.”

Penny just stared out over the sea of the dead not moving. The Wanderer patted her on the shoulder.

“Come on we better go.”

The Wanderer started to walk away. Slowly Penny got to her feet. Looking around for a moment she realized this was the spot she was fighting. A meter or so away lay her two swords. Slowly she walked over and picked one of them up. Penny chose this one deliberately. It was Shona’s

“I-I need to find my brother,” Penny replied holding the weapon carefully, “Alex wasn’t in the battle he might still be in Los Angeles.”

The Wanderer watched her sadly. He could almost feel her pain. The Wanderer walked up and put his arm around her.

“Let’s go find your brother.”

Los Angeles fared pretty well after the evil law firm shut it down. The city that never sleeps lived up to it’s name as, in no time at all, it returned back to it normal life style. L.A. had become much safer to. With Wolfram and Hart gone the major demon population when underground and hardly showed its face anymore. The only real casualty was the L.A.P.D. who were having some financial problems since their main benefactor gone.

This explained why a Woman, dressed in a black t-shirt and Black jeans, was able to walk causally down the street with a sword strapped to her back with out ramifications. Sure people crossed the street to avoid her but all in all she was safe as houses.

Penny looked across the street nervously. The Hyperion hotel seemed to be in one piece which was a good sign. The Wanderer stood next to her trying to give as much support as he could.

“Aren’t you going to go in?” he asked

“Yeah,” Penny replied, “I need a moment.”

They both stood silently for a moment. Penny looked over to the old man.

“What if he’s, like, not in there?” She asked innocently, “I don’t know where to look.”

“You won’t know until you go in.”

Penny took a deep breath. She swallowed her nerves and they crossed the road. Penny opened the door slowly. As she did Hope flew in and landed on the front counter.

“Hello?” Penny asked tentatively, “Angel?”

Penny stepped inside and gasped. The entire floor is covered in blood splatters from end to end. Slowly she walked into the empty lobby and examined the scene. In shock she backed up to the counter. When she felt something solid behind her back she slid down until she hit the floor. Penny covered her mouth as tears formed in her eyes. Just then The Wanderer entered and also surveyed the scene.

“Holy hell!” he exclaimed

Slowly turned and glared at the old man.

“Did you know about this?” she asked angrily, “Did you?!”

“No all I saw was the desert. Oh god.” He replied

Penny looked around the scene and tried to think. She couldn’t her mind had gone completely numb. The Wanderer seeing this walked over to her and embraced her supportively.

“I am so, so sorry kid,” he said in a fatherly tone, “This was the last thing I wanted for you.”

Penny put her head onto his shoulder and cried heavily.

“Normally I wouldn’t recommend this but I think both of us need a stiff drink.” The Wanderer continued

The Wanderer helped Penny to her feet. Behind the counter lay a long black jacket. He picked it up and draped it over her shoulders.

~ Karatos bar, Los Angeles – 30 minutes later ~

Penny and The Wanderer entered the bar slowly. On the way in they passed a tall man wearing a purple silk shirt, black pants and he had short spiky black hair. Penny thought she recognized him for a moment but her mind was on other things. For the better part of an hour the pair sat and drank, well, it was more like The Wanderer sat and drank and Penny stared at her full glass. On stage Lorne was singing one of his show stopping numbers but neither of them cared. The Wanderer looked at the depressed slayer.

“You know that stuff works a lot better if you drink It.” he commented

“Not thirsty.” Penny replied quietly

“This is alcohol thirst has nothing to do with it.”

The wanderer downed another shot. And they both sat quietly.

“I was, like, a good slayer you know,” Penny said, “I did my part for the team and nobody complained. Shona said stuff but I knew she was joking. Even when Rebecca disappeared I still kept going. It was hard ‘cause she was my best friend nobody knew where she was. And . . . and now their all gone.”

The Wanderer placed a caring hand on her shoulder.

“I wish there was a way to tell you that everything’s alright Penny but there isn’t. All I can say is that you won’t be alone.” He replied

Penny looked over to the old man and smiled.

“Thanks.” She said

“No problems kid,” The Wanderer replied happily, “You have me and the bird now isn’t that right hope . . . hope?”

Both of them looked around the table curiously. Hope was missing while Penny was talking behind her two vampires pricked up their ears. Quickly they paid for their drinks and left the bar. Hope noticed this and followed them. The vampires traveled out of the city to the warehouse district. The pair entered one of the warehouses and walked right into the middle of a meeting. The room was full of vampires on stage Tokan stood his face twisted form the thousand years he has lived. Hope flew up and landed on one of the support beams on the roof and watched carefully.

“This is a glorious day my brethren,” he announced, “The battle between the Trinity and the Slayers has left the world with out a single slayer alive. Now is the time to take what we rightly deserve!”

Slowly he began to pace backwards and forwards on the stage his movements dramatic and intense.

“By the nightfall of the third day to come we will rule this city. We shall sire every human we find who will in turn sire every human they find until my army is great enough to sweep the globe. This world shall be ours!”

“My master!” one of the vampires yelled out, “We have a problem.”

Tokan turned sharply and sneered at the vampire who interrupted him.

“And what would this problem be? Speak up or I will have your tongue.”

“We were at the Pyleans Bar. There was a woman inside. She said that she was a slayer.”

Tokan stroked his chin thoughtfully.

“This is going to add a wrinkle to a some what perfect plan,” he said evilly, “Find the slayer, bring her to me.”

The vampire nodded. He and a small group left the building.

“For my plan to be a success there has to be no resistance. Fortunately for me the slayer will not live the night.” Tokan announced
