Sitting back down on the chair with Dawn sitting at his feet Xander starts back into the story. “Now I don’t usually invite people I just met to my room, but it was obvious he was hurt but wasn’t going to take care of himself until after his dog was okay so…
Xander opens the door to the small motel room. “It’s not much but it’s… not much money either.”
Orion smiles at the younger man, “It’s better than sleeping on the ground.”
“Only a little, and what is that noise.”
Orion turns back to the door and opens it, letting Lucas in. Xander notices the dog is limping slightly. “So were do you want me to start, Callie or Lucas?”
“Begin at the beginning.”
“Alright,” Orion said, sitting on the corner of the bed. “It begins with my parents. They were members of a group of assassins, you probably never heard of them, that included demons, monsters, humans, the whole…”
“The Order of Taraka,” Xander interrupted with the only assassin group he knew of that fit the description.
“Yes,” Orion said with surprise, “how did you know?”
“Killed one, a bug guy.”
“Was he a large bug creature, or a guy who turned into a lot of little wormy things?”
“I’ll take choice number two.”
“Damn, I wanted to kill him! Oh well.” Orion relaxed a little more. “Well it so happened that after a particularly lucrative job my parents went out celebrating and nine months later, ta-da.” Orion finally slipped into full storytelling mode, “Well assassins don’t make good parents, so I was shipped off to a boarding school in Austria that was in actuality a training camp for the Order. I probably would have become a good little assassin but I saw my parents killed by none other than Taraka herself. So I stole Callie from the school armory cause I knew from my studies that Taraka feared this sword. I began systematically hunting members of the order down and killing them until I couldn’t find them anymore. They are extremely good at hiding when they want to. Then I happened upon one, a dark sorcerer named Peirson Frost. He had just used a polymorph spell on a young psychic to make him more manageable. I killed him without considering that I doomed the kid to forever walk around as a cute furry dog. I later found out that Lucas liked his new shape and doesn’t want to turn back. However his psychic abilities were not dampened by his transformation. So he uses them to find my really extended family and I slaughter them.”
“What all mind powers does Lucas have?” Xander asked Orion. Orion smiled as he answered.
“All of them.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah it’s really helpful.”
Xander yawned and stretched out on the other small bed. Try as he might he couldn’t keep his eyes open. “So what are you doing in Oxnard?”
“A vampiress named Fah Mi Xing is on her way here with her brood. She’s easy to track and I plan to kill her and any of her twelve daughters that get between us.”
“What makes her easy to track?” Xander asked.
“She’s extraordinarily beautiful and only sires women as attractive as she is.”
“Why does this sound really personal?”
“Because when we were both students in Austria I was in love with the woman this demon’s riding around in. So I plan to personally put her body at rest.”
Xander felt sleep overtake him. But before he lost all conscious thought he heard a plaintiff cry in his mind with a Swedish accent beg him ‘Please help him.’

All the talk about sleep had caused Dawn to drift off herself. Xander considered carrying her to the bed but realized she might wake up if he did. So he sat with her head on his knee with no intention of disturbing her. A few minutes later his resolve was tested by his left leg tingling with numbness as his foot went to sleep. This was a test he would pass.
