"I do believe I'm on to something," Giles said lifting his head from the book he was reading.
"What?" asked a confused Buffy, walking in.
"Oh, did I say that out loud?"
"Yeah. What are you on to?"
"N-nothing, really."
"The way you said it made it sound like something."
"Buffy if I thought you needed to know I'd tell you. Now can we please drop it?" Giles said irrtiably.
"Sounds like someone woke up on the wrong side of the hellmouth this morning," Buffy said, rather stung by Giles's tone. "Anyway, do you want me to patrol tonight?"
"No, no. Why don't you just go to the Bronze tonight, or ... something?" Giles asked, sounding like he hadn't really listened to her question.
"Witness Mr. Moodswing," Buffy said, looking quzzically at Giles before leaving.
Giles went back to his book. It was "new." He had just gotten it from a novelty/occult shop in the outskirts of town. Since Angel hadn't specified the kind of information he was looking for, Giles didn't know if his find would be of any use to him. He looked at his watch. 6:50. The sun would be setting soon. It had only been one day since his late night encounter with Angel, but because Angel had made this sound terribly important, Giles was planning on staying late in case Angel showed.
7:10. The sun had been down for exactly sixteen minutes when Angel walked in.
"Angel. Just the vampire I wanted to see."
"Have you found anything, Rupert?" Angel asked hopefully.
"Well, I don't know if it will be of any use to you, but I did find some little known information."
"Such as?"
"This second curse will be more difficult to break than the first one. The third would be more difficult than the second, and so on and so forth until it would be nearly impossible to break."
"But the curse has to be broken and recast each time, right?" Giles nodded. "Is there any way around all of that?"
"I-I don't know. I haven't found anything that would imply that, but I would imagine that it could be done. Is that what you're looking for?"
"Yes." There was a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Will you keep looking?"
"Of course. You are a powerful ally, and I'm sure Buffy would be quite pleased should we succeed." As Giles said this, Angel looked away from him. "She's the whole reason you're doing this, isn't she?" Angel didn't need to answer. "I won't tell her."
"I know. And thank you." Angel turned around and left the library with more hope in his heart than he'd ever had before.
