TIMELINE: After Empty Places, S7 of Buffy and S4 of Angel.
DISTRIBUTION: If you want this story on your site, please tell us.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Most of BTVS Season 6 happened with the following differences. Buffy and Spike were only friends, although he is still in love with her. Season 7 changes include Andrew coming to Buffy after he killed Jonathan. The power the First had over him broke when he realized what he had done. Buffy knows she is Connors mother; she remembered the forgotten day and saw what the Powers did with her son.
AUTHOR’S NOTE 1: AtS Season four. Connor came back alone. Cordelia not a higher being. She convinced Angel they were meant to be that Buffy no longer wanted him. The AI team defeated the Beast just like Angel dreamed in during Awakening.
AUTHOR’S NOTE 2: This is a new and improved Betrayed, after I decided to rewrite. If you don’t like this, then please e-mail me to read the old Betrayed. Thank you.

Chapter 1: Rejoining
Betrayal. Silence. Betrayal. Silence.
Did that just happen? Did Dawn really just….?
Buffy just blinked and stared at her sister. Even though the room was full of guests, her home it was silent. It was almost a welcomed relief. The house had been nonstop noise since the girls started arriving and then Angel and his friends showed up. Nothing but noise, madness and then even more noise. She couldn’t even take the hot shower that she desperately needed, she couldn’t do anything without being under the watchful eye of the potentials, and soulful brown eyes following her every move, and then on top of that the minute she’s down, BOOM! Everyone is on her.
She needed something to help take the pain from her body, even for a second, such as the hot shower that she never got. From the nasty ass First, to the Uber vampire, to woman hater preacher, she had taken lots of blows for everyone else so they could be safe.
Blink…
“Should have killed her, ungrateful bitch,” said her mother’s voice in her ear. She blinked again while slightly nodding. She knew that this wasn’t her mom, she knew that now but somewhere deep inside her she believed…
“Buffy?” Willow whispered fearfully. God she wanted to hit them all!
“What a Bitch, you know this is all her fault right. You could be so happy but nooo she had to bring you back. Couldn’t live without you, yadda, yadda, yadda,” the voice of her mother changed into her own. Kind of creepy listening to yourself talk, Buffy could hear the hatred she was feeling in the First.
Slowly she was mentally counting the ways to kill them…to kill them all.
Wait, what? Rewind to that. Kill everyone? She knew her soul was in trouble lately but kill everyone she ever cared about? There was a part of her that was just thrilled about the idea, and it wasn’t just the dark in her.
“You crave the dark,” Dracula had whispered to her. She swallowed, remembering the taste of his blood and spitting it out, trying to pretend it disgusted her.
Oh God, she thought as she swallowed the bile that threatened to come out. Had it come to that? She wanted them dead? No! She didn’t want that. These were her friends, her family, and her soul mate. Oh lord, that word again.
What a joke, Soul Mate.
Soul mate, betrayal, those words kept repeating itself, over and over again.
He didn’t love her, and didn’t care what happened to her that was for sure. She didn’t even have to look at him with the fake blonde seer to know they were holding hands. He should know better, holding hands in front of her like he was trying to rub it in her face.
Rationally she knew he wouldn’t, but these days she wasn’t sure of too much except the dreams she was having. What she knew she had to do. Plans were in motion and if this was part of it then she would walk out of here with her head high. Not a single tear would come from her, not until later or at least until she was out of the house. She wouldn’t give anyone the satisfaction of seeing her break. Especially Rona, that potential just pissed her off!
She closed her eyes again, the room feeling as if it was spinning.
This was her family, the people she loved and cared about. The people she has tried to keep safe for seven years of her life. Then One thing goes wrong and they all blame Buffy. Buffy this and Buffy that. Buffy we need food, Buffy you need to pay the bills, Buffy we need clothes, Buffy…Buffy…Buffy!
What was she? Cinderella? Ungrateful all of them! She couldn’t even look at them, she felt so sick. These are the same people who took her out of her Heaven. Her own personal Heaven, sitting on the beach while drinking iced mocha’s while being served by extremely hot men in thongs!
The anger was setting in.
God she had to get out of here!
She was starting to think how her sister would scream as she cut her. “Just slid in her like she was butter” isn’t that what she had said to the Mayor?
Oh God she felt sick…
Silence…..
She blinked….
She had to get out of here; she was going to do something that she regretted. Not that it should matter, they were kicking her out. She saves them, it’s what she does and this is what she gets?
Figures.
She squared her shoulders and stared at Dawn. Yeah that’s right little girl; be afraid, she thought as she gave the girl the same expression that demons ran from.
She quickly looked everyone in the room and shook her head. Angel, her soul mate that hadn’t even tried to defend her and yup, he was holding Cordelia’s hand! Buffy looked at the ‘happy couple’, turned on her heel and walked to the stairs before turning around and said….
“I hope you all rot.”
Oh My God did she just say that? Wasn’t that more of a Spike saying? She was spending way too much time with the blonde…okay, bleached blonde who used to be brown in his time. If Spike were here, he’d defend her…wouldn’t he? Well maybe Andrew would, he had some weird fascination with her. At this moment she really missed his annoying voice.
For once she felt good! She felt free!
No one said a thing as she turned and walked up the stairs.
She quickly packed some necessities and threw Mr. Gordo in her bag.
“Buffy,” Faith said softly.
She turned and looked at the other Slayer leaning against her doorframe. Faith never called her Buffy unless it was serious, deadly serious.
“Faith,” she just said, almost deadpanned, while zipping up the bag.
“You know they don’t mean it. We need you here. I need you here. I can’t do this alone,” Faith moaned.
Buffy just sighed and rolled her eyes, wishing anyone upstairs to listen to her as she put the bag strap on her shoulder.
“Well you have no choice. I know this isn’t what you wanted to have to lead these girls but hey I got voted off this happy little island and its all yours,“ Buffy said sarcastically.
“B… come on, ignore them,” Faith sighed.
“Faith they did and you know it,” Buffy said stepping to the door and heading down the stairs but was startled to see Angel standing there leaning against the banner. Their eyes met quickly and she quickly avoided his gaze.
The last thing she wanted to see was love in his eyes.
And she sure as hell didn’t want to have a conversation with him, not with Cordelia standing about five feet from him.
Buffy chuckled, if she wanted to grab Angel she would, but at the moment let Cordelia have her fun. Angel knew who he belonged with, one day he might figure that out or hell would freeze over.
She wasn’t sure which one would come first.
“Probably Hell,” The first chuckled in her ear. Just creepy hearing your own voice!
“B… you can’t do this. Angel and I, we need you, you know that.” Faith snapped as Buffy reached the bottom step.
Buffy chuckled and pushed Angel out of the way, she wasn’t too shocked by the little electric spark she felt when she touched him but ignored it.
One day maybe, but not today, not standing up for her after all she has done.
She quickly walked to the front door never looking back at them feeling eyes upon her. Her sisters gaze, the father’s eyes of her Watcher and the people who were judging her, the Witch, the Faithful and her beloved.
“Faith, you and Angel must lead them. They don’t know what they are doing. Faith its time for you to step up and be the Slayer you are. Do not take these children out and get them drunk. You can not screw up like that, you just can’t.”
“B...”
Buffy opened the door.
“Buffy you know I…” Faith whispered.
Buffy stopped at the doorway and snapped, “Well again I was voted out of my own house in which I pay for. As for friends I don’t have any and none of you hold a special place in my heart anymore. So you can all go to hell…but be careful,“ She whispered, she didn’t want to be bitter and no matter how she felt, she didn’t have the time to feel all the pain, maybe later.
“Buffy,“ Angel sighed.
The only thing Buffy heard from him was annoyance and it was directed at her. For a brief minute she wondered if he was under a spell.
She whirled around to look at the man she loved who was now holding the tacky blonde seer’s hand. Okay maybe Cordelia was holding his hand but he didn’t let go and he didn’t come after just stood there by the new window Xander had just replaced. Angel and his crew, well only two of them were here. Fred and Gunn, they seemed nice enough. They thought Cordelia was a Goddess. So maybe they were under a spell too?
She needed to find the other three! Lorne, Wesley and Connor. She never thought she would say that! Find Wesley?
They were supposed to be here too but where were they? She didn’t see them anywhere in the packed living room of emotional teenagers and bitter adults.
She looked at Angel once more and cocked an eyebrow at him as bitterness spread through her.
“I...Buffy you have to understand,” Angel said softly letting go of Cordelia’s hand. She got a little satisfaction out of Cordelia’s pathetic attempt to grab his arm back.
“Understand?? Understand!” She yelled pressing her hand on the doorknob harder feeling it crack under her hand.
“Buffy,” Angel whispered coming to stand in front of her. He reached up to touch her chin but she slapped it away.
“Don’t you dare touch me! Go back to your fake blonde, fake chest seer who couldn’t tell a carrot from her ass.” Buffy snapped and pushed him away and walked through the door.
“Hey!” Cordelia cried out.
She slammed the door and leaned against it. She felt the first tear threaten to fall.
“Ungrateful? Now I understand why the Slayer works alone.” Buffy ran a hand through her hair, sighing deeply and wiped her eyes to keep those tears that threatened to fall earlier. “Stupid” she whispered wiping her face
She wasn’t alone and her head snapped up as someone’s voice echoed slightly around her.
“Having fun Slayer…by the way, you wouldn’t have any beer on you would you?”
She whirled around to see Whistler leaning against one of the porch beams, staring at her. She smiled her first genuine smile for the past month and walked over to him. “Good to see you too and no, I don’t and what they hell are you wearing?”
Whistler smiled a little and got off the beam, walking over to her and he wrapped an arm around her. “What are you doing here?” Buffy asked as she looked up to him.
“Everything will be explained, as soon as we get you out of here. Who’s in there?” Whistler asked, taking her bag and Buffy stepped back a little, sort of surprised that Whistler could be kind.
“Erm…well there’s the potentials, the Scooby Gang, Angel and Cordy. I know Wesley, Lorne and Connor are meant to be here but I couldn’t find them. No idea where they went.”
Whistler nodded and pulled her along the street, talking to her softly about anything and everything that they could come up with that would distract them from the First.
“You really need to buy some new clothes,” she said as they walked down the middle of the street.

Angel just stared at the door. What the hell just happened? Did they just get rid of Buffy? Did he just help them? She was the strongest of them all and he just let her walk out that door.
“Angel,” Cordelia whispered as she gently took his hand.
Her touch gave him no pleasure; no little shock it was nothing like Buffy’s touch that he craved. He was with his Seer because he could take certain pleasures, and even though he wasn’t in love with her it didn’t matter. However seeing the person he called his soul mate was a shock to his system. Had it been almost a year since he last saw her?
She was so lost when she came back. He wanted to reach out and hold on to her, he wanted to take away her pain and didn’t give a damn about anyone or anything. She needed him and what did he do? He told her it was too hard to see her. That life would be easier if they didn’t have any contact at all with each other. He told her that her death had killed everything inside of him and he was starting to build some kind of a life. He didn’t say he had feelings for Cordelia because he didn’t. His friends, his family was pushing him towards her. Maybe to help him, not that it mattered.
He briefly wondered what Doyle would have thought about the relationship.
He knew instantly that Doyle would be pissed off and drinking and had a feeling that Buffy would have joined the Irish Demon.
Angel closed his eyes and remembered her pain.
She was alive and all he could think of was how much it hurt him to be around her.
The pain in her eyes when he muttered those words. The soft sobbing he heard as he turned around and left her at the diner. He knew that if he had looked back he would have lost it. He would have run back to her, held her, loved her, kissed her tears away but he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t be happy, Angelus would make an appearance.
And that was something he could never let happen…
Never.
Angelus wanted her as much as the soul did and while they both wanted to possess her, the demon screamed for her. Mate, that was what he heard whispering through his bones, and his undead heart broke as she looked at him in disgust.
And he didn’t blame her.
And neither did the demon.
But it was more than that for Angel, his friends were starting to become a family, they were talking to him again, they came to him for advice again. They wanted to be around him again.
But he really wanted the girl and instead he got Cordelia, who was now wearing the same kind of perfume Buffy wore and the same vanilla bath products as his little Slayer wore. All he had to do with Cordelia was close his eyes and every once in awhile when he took a peek and saw blonde hair with the smell of sunshine and vanilla, he could picture himself making love to his beloved his, Ionuin.
He felt for Cordelia’s hand and turned to face her. She would never be his Ionuin. His Ionuin had just walked out the door head held high blinking away tears. No, his Ionuin was strong and loved everything about him, unlike Cordelia who could only love his soul and never the demon.
And for what? He thought he should be with this shell of a woman who only loved half of him? He wasn’t even sure she loved him at all but she accepted him, they all did. No one yelled and screamed about how they shouldn’t be together, there was peace in this relationship.
Wasn’t there?
He took one last longing glance at the door.
His demon, Angelus was screaming at him to go get her, to run after her, to hold her, touch her, make her his. To show her they’re dying affection for her.
Angel was startled by the fact that even though Angelus hated her, he would protect her, love her.
Angel hung his head and faced the living room of girls and old friends who were starting to yell at each other.
He was a coward.
