Yet another portal opened, this time behind the demons and Spike.
He glanced at the others, and when he was sure none were advancing towards him, he jumped into it, pulling his captive with him.
************************************************
They all stared at each other uncertainly.
"Should we jump in after 'em?" Gunn asked.
"We should save him." Illyria said.
"We really should see where it goes first." Angel replied, begrudgingly.
"Well. i'll go." Connor said, and did just that.
Sighing, growling, and cursing all at oince, Angel followed. Illyria and Gunn jumped in after him, too, seeing no other way.

They landed on a heap on the ground, and pushed themselves to their feet, and gazed around them.
They ground was black-all black, like tiles-shiny and almost slippery with polish. The sky was dark green, with orange dots for stars. A blue moon, but the shape of a square, casted a somewhat eeiry gaze over the landscape.
The buildings were all gray from the outside, and grey on the indside. The carts carried all sorts of things-black martket stuff, food, and unidentified things.
"Where is this?" Angel asked.
"Well, let's go...see if we can find Spike?" Gunn suggested.
"He should be near, we followed, like, two minutes after him."
They spent hours, 'knocking' on doors and searching houses. It seemed that not only demons lived their, but humans too. Some humans had human slaves or demons slaves, and demons had demon or human slaves, also.
"One more door in this...town? Few streets?" Angel shrugged.
They really did knock on the door, and a human opened it. The woman was about twenty, if that, and had a small, shy smile.
"Can i help you?" She asked.
"Yeah." Angel said. "Thanks. I'm looking for a small boy, about three? Name of Spike...even William?"
"We have a boy here. Come. Come." She moved back from the door, and let them in. "I'm not the owner of this house. But the boy...he is here."
"Can you get him for us?" Connor asked.
"You cannot have him. He was a gift for the owner-who's a demon, yes-from a friend's bother's cousin. Or something like that."
"That may be so, but he shouldn't've been here in the first place. He was forced though the portal, and we came." Angel said. "Here. For him."
Gunn wasn't paying too much attention to the conversation, as he was too busy looking around the room they were in. Then two eyes caught his attention. Eyes that were staring at him. Eyes that were wide and dirty. Eyes that followed him.
"Er, do have a bathroom i could use?" He inturrupted.
"Er...sure. Through the door behind me and on the second left." The woman answered.
"Thanks."
He ignored the looks he was getting from his companions and went through the door. Instead of going to the door to the bathroom, he took the one directly in fron of him. Luckily, that was the one that led to the basement.
He walked down the stairs, quickly but quietly, and stopped at the bottom.
It was all stone, all grey, but it was warm. There was a double bed in one corner of he room, and a single in the middle, by the wall-directly under the barred window space. There was a table and chair, with paper and pensils and such near the stairs, and a few toys scattered about the floor. The body attached to the eyes was sitting on the single bed, now facing him.
"Gunn?" The small boy asked.
"Spike."
"What the bloody hell took so long?"
"What're you talkin' bout, man? We jumped in the portal almost exactly after you." He said defensively.
"Then why've i been here for three weeks?"
"It took is a few minutes to jump into the portal." He remembered. "Oh! Time must be different here."
"You don't say?" He drawled sarcastiaclly. "We can go now?"
*********************************
"I wonder what's taking Gunn so long." Angel muttered.
"Ill go see." Connor said, and dashed off.
He went through the door and knocked on the batroom door. "Gunn?" He called. "You ok in their?"
There was no answer.
The door at the end of the hall opened, and Gunn stepped out, followed by Spike.
The small boy was filthy, and his clothes were ripped and stained. He was limping slightly, as if he'd sprained a muscle in his leg. In his left fist, he was holding something, keeping it hidden from him and Gunn.
"Make a run for the door with him." Gunn ordered, his voice quiet.
Spike shut the door behind them and stared at the floor.
"I can't run."
Connor picked him up. He heard Spike hiss as if he'd burnt himself, but tried to ignore it. Taking a deep breath, Connor ran rom the house and away from the street.
*******************************
"Why'd Connor run from the house?" Illyria asked.
"Needed air." Gunn said. " We *really* should be gettin' goin'."
"But waht about...?" Angel began, then caught Gunn's look. "oh, alright."
THey left quickly, to catch up with Connor and Spike.
