Back in the living room, Spike was sound asleep in Dawns lap and Dawn was talking to him softly.
“Spike, you have to be okay. Buffy and I need you. We love you. She’ll never admit it but she does. You have to pull through this. Buffy and I cant live without you again,” she said. “Not again.”
Spike’s purr grew in volume so Dawn closed her eyes and snoozed.
Buffy hung up the phone and let out a shaky sigh. She stood up and went back to the living room where Dawn and Spike were sleeping.
She smiled and sat in the arm chair across from him. She closed her eyes and ended up falling asleep despite herself.
Some one shaking her caused Buffy to wake up. “Huh?” She asked, drearily.
“Buffy,” Came Willow’s voice. “There’s a doctor here with Riley.”
That snapped Buffy up and she jumped to her feet. “Riley,” she breathed and gave him a hug. “Please, you gotta do something.”
Riley ran a hand over her hair. “Don’t worry. This is Dr. Brown. He installed it so he should be able to fix it.”
Buffy pulled away. “So what do we do?” She asked.
Riley gave her an address. “Take him here. Then we’ll take a look,” Riley said, going toward the door. “We’ll meet you there.”
“Thank you, Riley,” Buffy said, softly.
Riley smiled at her before leaving.
Buffy turned to Spike, assuming he was still asleep. But she was surprised when she saw him awake. She went over to his side. “Hey. Riley as a doctor and we can fix it,” she said, smiling a little. She reached her hand out to stroke his hair, but pulled back when he flinched.
Dawn was a wake and frowned when Spike flinched. “What’s going on?”
“Riley brought a doctor to help us,” Buffy said. “You coming?”
Dawn nodded. “Yeah.” Carefully she pushed Spike up and went to grab her coat.
Spike stood up and steadied his feet. He ignored Buffy and followed Dawn and Xander out, grabbing his coat on the way.
Buffy followed, swallowing her tears.
At the medical center, Spike followed Buffy with Dawn at his side.
Once inside, Spike laid on the table just as the chip went off. He screamed, causing everyone to cringe.
Dawn and Buffy were at his side and Dawn slid her hand into his, but ignored the pain when he almost crushed it.
The doctor came over and gave Spike an injection and he immediately began to calm.
Dawn looked at him. “What was that?”
“Anesthesia. Keeps him calm while we’re working,” the doctor said.
Xander came forward. “Come on, girls. Lets give them some room,” he said.
Dawn nodded and pried Spike’s fingers form her hand. “Come on, Buffy,” she said.
Buffy shook her head. “No, no I need to stay with him,” she said, looking at Spike’s face.
“Well, you obviously did something to upset him. So lets wait outside,” Dawn said, pulling her sister toward the door.
Buffy watched through the glass, and wondered what was wrong with Spike.
