VAN NEYS, CALIFORNIA - LATE 1996

Joss moved around the library set. It was perfect, just like he thought it would look like. He was still nervous, which was natural. He had written the first episdoe entitled "Welcome To The Hellmouth", but he had two directors working on it. Gail warned him that since they were a replacement series, their time was short too get the 12 episodes that had been paid for shot and ready for broadcast.

At first, Joss was confused...he only had 11 episodes ready, but Gail said it would be okay. The WB said that the series premiere would be a two hour event, but Gail and Doug explained that in reuns the episode would be cut in half: so 12 episodes.

Joss walks up to 'The Director of the Day', John Kretchner, who was directing the second half. The first half director, Charles Martin Smith, had already finished for the day. It was strange, working the two directors. Normally, the director and the DP (director of photography) would be the last ones to leave, while the actors went home.

JOHN-
"So, how are things? Everything ready, Mr. Whedon?"

JOSS-
"Yeah...and call me Joss. Mr. Whedon's my dad."

JOHN-
"Okay...Joss. We're ready to shoot the aftermath of the crypt scene. Everyone in place!!!! (The set goes quiet) CAMERA!!! (The camera operator starts filming the scene) ACTION TONY!!!"

TONY-
"Okay, Buffy hunts vampires. I think that all you need it know."

NICK-
"Except for one thing: how do you kill them?"

SARAH-
"You don't; I do!"
