Dawn walked down the hallway to Gunn’s office and knocked on the door.
“Come on in.” She heard him answer.

She opened up the door and walked inside. “Hey, I remembered to knock this time.” She smiled.

Gunn looked up from a pile of paperwork he was reading. “Oh, hey Dawn, what’s up? Your sister send you over for the tour?”

Dawn couldn’t help but think how much his street-like attitude didn’t match his lawyer exterior. “Yeah. I think she mostly just wanted me gone so she could talk to Spike, but a tour of an evil law firm sounds cool anyways.”

“Well, I think it’ll be good for me too.” Gunn said. “I have got to get out of this office.”

“You don’t seem like the lawyer type.” Dawn admitted, as Gunn got up from his desk.

He lead the way through the door and down the hallway. “I wasn’t.” He replied. “I didn’t know a thing about the law when I came here. Wolfram and Hart filled my head with it so I could be useful around here.”

“So what, they just downloaded the knowledge into your brain?” Dawn asked. “Cool!”

“More or less, yeah. But it was painful, I’ll tell you that.” Gunn smiled at her enthusiasm.

“So where’s our first stop?” Dawn questioned.

“Right in here.” Gunn replied, opening a glass door at the end of the hall. “The lab.”

Dawn mouthed a ‘wow’ as they entered a very clean room, filled to the brim with machines, test tubes, and everything you could possibly imagine in a lab.

“I was kind of expecting the whole ‘spooky castle Frankenstein’ theme for an evil lab, but this works too.” Dawn said.

Gunn laughed. “You remember my friend Fred, she runs the lab.” He indicated a set of stairs at the other side of the lab that led to an office with an overview of the whole lab.

They walked up and opened the door.

“Did you figure it out yet?” Fred asked, looking up from her computer. “Oh! Hi Gunn. And Dawn! Nice to see you again.”

“Hey Fred.” Gunn greeted. “Just giving Dawn here a little tour.”

“Make sure you stop by Wes’s office then. I’m sure he’ll want to see you Dawn, I mean you two did know each other, didn’t you?” Fred asked.

Dawn nodded. “Though, back then he was a snooty Watcher who thought he knew everything but didn’t know anything, and now I hear he went on to be a ridiculously leather clad rogue demon hunter before ending up at ‘Angel Investigations’.”

Gunn nodded. “Yeah, that sounds about right. I wasn’t with the team when that happened, but Cordelia used to tell the funniest stories about it.”

At the mention of Cordelia, the room got quiet.

“I heard what happened, and I’m really sorry.” Dawn said. “She was a real bitch back in Sunnydale, but I heard she really cleaned up good here in L.A.”

“Yeah, she did.” Gunn agreed. There was another brief moment of quiet. “Why don’t we go say hi to Wes now?”

“Sure. Fred, do you want to come?” Dawn asked.

Fred shook her head. “I can’t, I have a lot of work to get done.”

Gunn led Dawn out of the office and back down the stairs.

“This place seems to be sucking the fun out of everyone, huh?” Dawn asked.

“Yeah, real jobs will do that to you. They’re a lot of responsibility.” Gunn smiled.

“I hope I never get a real job.” Dawn told him, smiling also.

“If you never have a job, how are you going to pay for anything? Or are you planning on being a homeless crazy lady who stands on street corners and hits people who don’t give you money with a crooked umbrella.” Gunn joked.

Dawn cringed playfully. “Thank you for that visual, but I know my financial needs will always be met.”

“Is that so? How do you figure?” Gunn asked curiously.

“I’m Buffy’s sister!” Dawn exclaimed.

“And that means...?” Gunn questioned.

Dawn rolled her eyes. “Buffy, as in the love of Angel’s life, as in the one he’d do anything for. And seeing as Angel has recently come across a large amount of money...”

“...you think Angel’s gonna support you? I don’t even think he likes you that much.” Gunn told her.
“Oh, I know he doesn’t. And who can blame him? I don’t even really like him either.” Dawn smiled. “I don’t hate him, but hey, I just find him dull, okay? Anyways, do you really think he would let the love of his life’s most precious and loved family member go without shelter and clothing?”

“So that’s the master plan, huh?” Gunn remarked. “Brilliant.”

Dawn nodded. “I know.”

They both laughed. “So what are you really gonna do for a living when you’re older?” Gunn asked.

“Well, to tell the truth, I haven’t really thought much about it.” Dawn replied. “I didn’t think I had a future past fighting big bads and demonies.”

“I get what you mean.” Gunn nodded as they rounded the corner to another hallway of offices. “When I was your age, I was fighting vamps on the street. No real house, food was scarce, clothes from shelters, not much to get by on.”

“That sounds awful.” Dawn said.

Gunn nodded. “It was, but my crew and I were family. We had each other and we stuck together. But none of us really thought we had a future in the world past the war zone we lived in. Now look, I’m a lawyer!”

“What an inspirational story.” Dawn noted.

“Wes’s office is right over here.” Gunn pointed to a door along the hallway.

“Lemme guess, is it filled with lots of big dusty textbooks and important documents from someone who did something during sometime in history?” Dawn suggested.

“Bingo.” Gunn said, knocking on the door. “But trust me, he’s not the Wes you knew.”

“Come in.” A voice said behind the door.

Dawn looked at Gunn. “Sounds like he’s still British.”

“Some things just don’t change no matter what.” Gunn shrugged, opening the door.

“Hello Gunn. And Dawn! Yes I heard you and Buffy arrived last night.” Wesley greeted.

“And here I am.” Dawn said. Wesley stood up from his chair and walked around to the front of his desk. Dawn examined him up and down. “Wow Wes, not too shabby. You’ve definitely grown.”

“You’ve done quite a bit of growing yourself.” Wesley said, examining her in turn. “Not the same child I remember.”

“Which was funny, because I was always more mature than you.” Dawn laughed.

Wes cocked an eyebrow. “Oh, really?”

Dawn nodded. “With your constant lusting after Cordy? And let’s not forget your I’m-a-Watcher-goody-two-shoes attitude that always led to disaster.”

“Yes, well.” Wes looked at his shoes for a moment.

“Oh, come here!” Dawn smiled, walking forward and hugging Wes.

Wes hugged her back. “And here I thought you were glad to be rid of me.”

“I’m not going to lie, at the time we were. But with everything going on with Faith, you understand.” Dawn explained.

Wes nodded in agreement.

“But hey, we missed you. Well, I missed you. Buffy still holds a grudge against the Watcher’s Council.” Dawn said.

“Which I am no longer a part of.” Wesley added.

“Yeah, we heard all about your rogue demon hunter phase.” Dawn laughed. “And I have to say the image of you in leather pants just does not sit right in my head.”

Gunn laughed. “I hear that.”

“Yes, I must admit that they were incredibly awkward to walk around in, and do tend to chafe one.” Wesley smiled.

“Whoa, hey, too much info Wes.” Dawn cringed.

“And the knew mature look comes with such an immature mind, wonderful.” Wes noted.

“What can I say? I’m a teen inside and out.” Dawn shrugged.

“Well, technically you’re only about four years old.” Wes pointed out.

“Hey, we don’t talk about the Key stuff. I’m eighteen, just turned, okay?” Dawn pouted.

“Eighteen already? It has been a while.” Wes commented.

“Yeah, I just finished high school in Italy. My birthday was September 9th.” Dawn told him.

“Ah, eighteen. I remember those days. Wow I feel old.” Gunn said.

“Oh, yeah, eighteen is awesome. I get to vote. Yay.” Dawn said sarcastically.

“Just look at it this way. You’ve probably mastered driving by now, and you have only three years to go until you’re old enough to drink.” Gunn said.

Dawn thought of the previous night of drinking with Spike. ‘Yeah, three more years.’ She thought to herself. “Buffy barely ever lets me drive. Apparently, mom didn’t let her drive that much either.” Was all she said out loud.
