1995 - LOS ANGELES
Joss is staring at his blank computer screen again. He knew that this new TV series would have a strong female lead with a close circle of friends, and the premise was that high school was hell. Plus, they were going to fight vampires and monsters, and possibly sing. No, wait, no singing...that would be too wierd. Kai walks into the room, with Spike following her, waging his tail.
KAI-
"So, whatatcha got?"
JOSS-
"Well, I got the basic idea, but I still need a title, and the characters names and traits. The female lead...should be like...the next in a long line of vampire hunters."
KAI-
"Hunters? Sounds too much like an outdoor sports show."
JOSS-
"Vampire killers?"
KAI-
"Too rough sounding."
JOSS-
"Vampire....slayer."
KAI-
"Slayer, yeah, that's good. What her name?"
JOSS-
"Hmmm....Glory The Vampire Slayer?" Kai makes a face. "Okay...Cordelia The Vampire Slayer? No, I want it to sound...sterotypical Southern California."
KAI-
"The only one I know who has a name like that is that secretary at your work. What's her name, Muffy?"
Joss suddenly gets a look of calm and peace over his face.
JOSS-
"Yes...yes....Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Buffy Lehane? No, Buffy....Winters? No, Buffy Summers."
KAI-
"What about a mentor? Who know somebody who trains the Slayer?"
JOSS-
"Yeah, he should be British. You know, when I was in school in England, there was the Headmaster named Ethan Giles, and my writing teacher was named Rupert Wyndham-Pryce. Maybe, I can...how about Rupert Giles."
KAI-
"Best friends, she has to have best friends. I always like the name Xander."
JOSS-
"Xander...Harris?" Joss looks over at his wife's prized tree. "Willow...Osbourne. Yeah, like that. And for a high school rival for Buffy...I still like the name Cordelia."
