Ethan Rayne is shivering in his new 'prison', a 13th century castle. How long have I been here since Buffy first stopped The First, and him. This wasn't fair, it was a fair contest. Ethan had chosen five champions: Buffy, Faith, Willow, Spike, and Xander. All they had to do was best their opponents, and he would have been transformation into a 'God of Chaos'. That what The First promised when it released him from that US government prison cell.
But Buffy had a plan, of course. That sodding little puppet and Ripper helped her. They re-assembled his ancestor, Cassandra Rayne, an immortal who fought The First in the 13th century. She had lead Buffy to Hope's Dagger. He remembers that time in the Sunnydale Hospital, where Ripper was recovering from a demon attack. That wanker was the one who told the Slayer about Hope's Dagger. If I ever get out of this....
BUFFY-
"We'll do what, Ethan?"
ETHAN-
"W.What are you doing here. You defeat The First, so why..."
BUFFY-
"Save your breath. You know who I really am. And that Slayer was now defeated me twice. There will not be a third time, and we're going to help me."
ETHAN-
"You're The First!!! But, how....oh...is Buffy dead."
BUFFY-
"Was. Long story. Now, make your choice: help me or stay here in your nice, new home."
ETHAN-
"I'm help. On one condition."
BUFFY-
"With you, there always is. What?"
ETHAN-
"I want to kill Ripper myself."
BUFFY (smiles)-
"That can be arranged."
