"What did I say?"
"Aw, shit!" Jack proclaimed, sending his chair skidding backwards and getting up. "Did we go forward in time?"
"Huh?" Buffy inquired in the tone she used when she was generally confused.
"But how could we Jack?" Rose questioned. The boy pondered and suddenly got an idea.
"The necklace! Remember, it exploded and. . . and. . . "
"You think the Heart of the Ocean did this?"
"There's really a Heart of the Ocean?" Willow asked, looking up.
"But. . . it got destroyed. Does that mean we're stuck here?" Rose asked, reaching into her pockets. In one hand she pulled out a small, damp velvet sachel. In the other she brought out. . . a diamond necklace with a large blue jewel in the middle.
"Holy-" Rose let the necklace cascade, little pin-points of light sparkling from the diamonds.
"Oh, dear. That's quite a treasure, " Giles said. "May I see it?" Rose just held it up, unable to understand why it was still intact. The librarian took it gently, walked over to the check-out counter, pulled a jewler's eyepiece from a drawer and inspected the Heart. "Oh my. This piece of jewlery was thought to be lost for ever! Worn by Louis the 16th-"
"Giles, we've all heard the legend! The diamond was taken from Louis when he died, cut into a heart-like shape, yadda-yadda-yadda. How did it get them from. . . whenever to now?" Buffy inquired.
"That is what I'm pondering. You say the diamond exploded, did you not Mr. Dawson?"
"Yeah, it did. We were trying to get a train to Santa Monica, we triped on the tracks, and the necklace fell on the third rail of those new electric trains. It kind of glowed and *boom*! Next thing we know, we're in some cemetery. "
"Curious. I shall have to do more background research. I'll get back to you when I find something. May I borrow this, uh, Miss. Dawson?"
"If you need it to figure out how to get us back home, yes. "
"Thank you very much. " Giles walked back into the office and shuffled around. By now, the slayer and the vampire were over at the table, the former looking over Willow's shoulder.
"You know Will, only an obsessed freak would have that many bookmarks for the movie or for Leo. "
"I can't help it! The story is so tragic. Anyway, I've been interested in Titanic since third grade. Xander and I even did a project on it once. "
Buffy just shook her head and sat down beside Angel, who had Rose's velvet satchel in his hands, gently stroking it. "What's wrong, Angel?"
He didn't respond. Just looked at the bag and thought back to where he remembered it from. . .
