The next day was gloomy and overcast, with rain sprinkling on and off. Giles was reading the pages from Angel for the millionth time when the slayer and slayerettes came in during lunch.
"Hey, Giles. " Buffy called, throwing her bag onto a chair and walking to him. "What's up?"
"Well, I was reading the decryptions Angel had made and. . . it isn't good. "
"What else is new?" Cordelia asked, sitting at the table and starting to file her nails. "What's happened the last couple nights anyway?"
"Nothing much. Don't worry about it. " Xander told her, sitting beside the May Queen.
"Alright. "
"It seems. . . the Codex has foreseen the uncovering of a very powerful orb. Buffy, you didn't happen to have any. . . dreams last night?" Giles inquired, setting the pages down.
"Besides my normal surround-sound-smooch-a-thons. . . There was this one where the Mayor and Trick were holding this little blue and green ball, getting electrocuted by it. . . Or something. " Buffy explained.
"Damn it. As I thought. "
"Giles, don't hold anything out on me again. " Buffy warned.
"Well, if these were read correctly, the Codex says 'An orb of power shall be found. And with it's discovery, the world shall perish. It is bound. ' I have reason to believe it may or may not be the Orb of Ithaca. "
"Not another freaky object. What does this one do? Suck the world into Hell? Wait, that's Acathla. . . " Cordy proclaimed.
"So. . . what's the Orb of what-ever do?" Sabrina asked.
"Well, in the unlikely event of his death, the Master channelled some of his energy in a compacted piece of crystal he used to kill his prisoners with. . . The power caused it to squeeze into a ball and glow furiously. He then called it the Orb of Ithaca. It was thought to have either been lost or destroyed in the Middle Ages, but it seems the Orb maybe. . . unearthed. " Giles finished.
"The Master was this vampire, who commanded all the others. But he died. " Willow exclaimed to Sabrina as she looked up information on the orb.
"So, what happens if the orb's found?" the witch inquired.
"If activated properly, it channels the Master's energy into the bearer. With that. . . his or her energy increases emmensely, and. . . The end of the earth is bound to follow that. " Giles explained, taking off his glasses and rubbing the bridge of his nose.
The library sat in silence for several minutes before Buffy spoke again. "How do we find out when the orb's been found?"
"We won't know. We just. . . have to wait it out. " Giles replied. Everyone sighed frustratedly and the library was once again engulfed in silence.
