Merry Christmas, Buffy by Ksue

A/N: I suppose I should explain my take on everything that happened with couples and stuff for you to get this chapter. Oz left, but he didn’t come back. Tara never happened (although I love her dearly). The whole Anya thing never went any farther than prom.

Willow and Buffy sat together on the porch swing outside, each holding a steaming cup of Christmas coffee in their hands. They were facing each other, feet curled up under themselves. Both girls were beaming.

“I’m glad for you, Buffy. I could see that things with Riley weren’t exactly what you wanted. How’d he react when you told him?” Willow asked, sipping her coffee.

“He pretty much wigged. It’s understandable, I just dumped this on him on Christmas eve, but I hope we can at least be civil in the future,” Buffy shrugged.

“Riley’s a reasonable guy, I’m sure that he’ll calm down eventually. Man, I thought that after that Thanksgiving, you would never want to see Angel again. You were really messed up when you came back,” Willow observed.

“I know. I thought I never wanted to see him again, too. But after a while, I did. I’ll always want to see him again.” The two best friends sat in comfortable silence for a moment. Then Giles opened the front door.

“Buffy, you have a phone call,” Giles said, holding out the phone to her. Buffy stood up and started inside.

“I’ll be back in a minute, Will,” she said. Willow nodded and Buffy reached for the phone.

“Hello?”

“Buffy? Do you know where Angel is? He went to Sunnydale to leave you a gift and he’s not back yet,” Cordelia’s voice said. Buffy almost laughed, she actually sounded worried.

“He’s here, Cordelia. He’s staying here,” Buffy said carefully.

“What!? What did you do to him? Put him on the phone right now!” Cordelia shrieked. Buffy laughed and handed the phone to Angel, who had come to stand beside her.

“Cordy? It’s okay. I am staying here though. I spoke to a fellow this morning and he’ll do the fighting for the agency if you and Wesley want to keep it up,” Angel explained. He could hear Cordelia deflate on the phone.

“Why are you the only one who gets to have an on again period with the love of your life?” Cordelia sighed sadly.

“Who’s the love you’re getting at, Cordelia?” Angel asked, filled with sympathy. He knew exactly who she was getting at, but he wanted to hear her say it.

“No one, really. Angel, what am I supposed to do here without the agency? It’s not going to be the same without you,” Cordelia said.

“Come back to Sunnydale, Cordy. There’s always room for you here,” Angel suggested. This got a glare from Buffy and animated hand waving and head shaking.

“I’ll think about it. I’ve gotta go.” Cordelia hung up without another word and Angel knew he had plucked a string with her.

“Why’d you invite her here?” Buffy sighed.

(Outside)

Willow watched the full moon rise in the sky and found herself deep in thought. She loved Christmas, but without someone to share it with, the feeling just wasn’t the same. Buffy had Angel, and before him Riley, but she and Xander had no one. Willow was okay with being single, it was just like back in high school, only she wasn’t such a nerd. She had healed from Oz’s departure but she still missed him. Especially now that Angel was back. If he could come back, why couldn’t Oz?

“Merry Christmas, Willow,” a man’s voice said as a figure stepped from the shadows. Willow jumped, almost spilling her coffee. She knew that voice.

“Oz?” she asked, setting her cup down. His bright reddish brown hair gleamed in the moonlight.

“Hey,” he said softly. Willow looked up at the moon.

“But...how?” She asked, eyes wide.

“Tibet. Long story, but I figure we’ll have a while. If you’ll have me back,” Oz explained. Tears fell down Willow’s face as she nodded. Then she ran and jumped into Oz’s arms. He held her tightly, breathing deeply and kissing her forehead. She cried, wracked with sobs of longing. Oz set her feet back on the ground and their lips met in a passionate kiss. They had both missed each other so much.

Willow heard the door open and heard Buffy come out. Oz saw Buffy cross her arms and smile deeply for her friend.

“Hey,” Oz nodded, pulling gently away from Willow.

“You missed dinner,” Buffy said in greeting.

“Hit a little traffic in London,” Oz shrugged. Buffy’s smile widened even more and she stepped aside, ushering Willow and Oz inside.

“Merry Christmas, Will,” Buffy whispered as they stepped inside. Look’s like the scooby’s were all getting another shot. Well, all but one. Buffy looked at Xander and saw a mix of happiness and jealousy there. She smiled at him and he smiled back. She hoped he’d find someone soon. Maybe he would.
