"Xander, good to see you man!", Oz stuck out his hand but Xander looked at it like a foreign object. Grabbing Willow by the arm, he practically pulled her out of the Bronze. "We have to go now, Willow, Oz. There's no time for questions." His grim face didn't encourage any as they slipped into Giles' car. Giles was sweating like a pig. His face was red and he stuttered more than usual as he greeted them.
"Where are we going?", Willow asked as the car hurtled down the empty street. Giles was driving like a maniac.
Xander didn't mince his words as he began to tell them in a low voice, a story that made their blood curdle.

"Dear God, please help me to be a dood girl. Bless Mama n' Daddy n' Jessi even though she's mean to me lots, bless Bobo n' Gramma n' Grandpa. Amen" Kathleen stroked her daughter's soft curls. She loved her little Mary so much. She couldn't picture life without her. Mary looked so pious and sweet in her pink nightdress with her golden ringlets loose about a round pink face. She was a golden child. Her parents' precious darling.
"Mama, do you think God heard me?" Kathleen smiled as she gently tucked Mary into her small bed with it's Mickey Mouse covers. "Of course, darling. God listens to the prayers of little children especially." "Why, Mama?" "Because He loves little children more than anything." Mary took a moment to digest this before she nodded, seemingly satisfied.
"Mama, can I have a bedtime story?" Kathleen shook her head regretfully. "Not tonight, Mary dear. Mama's very busy tonight. I'll tell you your favourite story tomorrow night." Mary's earnest face fell but she didn't make a fuss. She only said in a very soft voice, "Ok, Mama." Kathleen kissed her fondly on the forehead. "I'll tell you 'The Frog Prince' tomorrow and I'll get Daddy to come and be the Frog Prince. And I'm going to make you pancakes tomorrow."
Mary's face lit up. "Pancakes!" Kathleen rumpled her daughter's curls. "Yes, pancakes. Now shut your eyes tight and morning will come soon." Mary obeyed, squishing her eyes shut. "Goodnight, darling." "G'night, Mama" Kathleen quietly stepped out of the room. It was the last time Kathleen saw her little Mary.

I thirst. I hunger. The emptiness gnawed at me. Ate at my insides. I needed food. I needed drink. There was a light ahead. A blessed light, promising a place where the pain would all be taken away. But something stopped me. Someone compelled me to go back to the dark place. I didn't want to. It hurt. But I had to. I had to join with the darkness if I was to have love eternal. If I was to have love at all.
"Hurts", she moaned. Someone was rubbing her sore wrists, putting an ice-pack on her forehead.
"Mum...Angel..." With an effort, Buffy opened her eyelids. A face was close to hers. A face shown by the dim orange light glowing from a single naked lightbulb. "Welcome back, my love." Angel! Buffy's face glowed like the lightbulb. "Angel....", she whispered.
"Angel....I'm so hungry....", Angelus stroked her chin. "Soon, my love. Spike and Dru have gone to fetch your dinner." A crying sound made Buffy's head whip around. A little girl. A little girl clad in a pastel pink nightdress was being held captive in Dru's arms. Angelus smiled as he took the little girl from Dru. Drusilla giggled. "Her name's Mary. She looks like the doll my Mummy gave me before I died."
"Buffy, meet Mary. She looks delicious, doesn't she, Slayer?" Horror overcame Buffy. The final remnants of her memories came back to haunt her. She remembered the darkness. The pain. Angelus drinking her blood. She looked down at herself in dazed shock. She was a...a vampire. Angelus held the trembling little girl closer to Buffy. "Come on now, dearie, open up your mouth for Daddy."
Hunger consumed her like fire. She had to eat....or die. With a cry, Buffy leapt up from the bed. She wrenched the bedpost so desperately that it broke in her hand. The sharp point of the bedpost was near her heart. Salvation was close by....... Angelus laughed. It was laughter that was tinged with evil amusement.
He pushed Buffy hard. Buffy fell in a heap on the floor near his feet. All her strength was gone. She sobbed as she tried to crawl away from Angelus. From the child who looked like a flushed angel that had accidentally tumbled down from heaven. She felt the demon rise inside her. The demon had smelled fresh human blood and it was very, very hungry. It had been waiting for a long time.
"Please...Angel. Please don't. Oh, God! Please help me!" Angelus kicked her and Buffy's weakened body doubled up on the floor. "How can she still have compassion?", Dru's voice was puzzled. Hunger made the room slowly revolve around Buffy. "She was the Slayer", Angelus smiled at that. He shoved the little girl closer to Buffy. "We cannot corrupt her till she has had a taste of blood."
Buffy's face was changing. She felt it change. The little girl's cries were becoming fainter and fainter. Buffy gripped her stomach as convulsions racked her body. "Drink Buffy...You love me, don't you? Drink and you will live forever." Buffy licked her lips. The demon was winning.
"Forever..." Hands made strong by extreme hunger shot out and snatched the Mary from Angelus's arms.
