Chapter Four
The next day Buffy woke up and she still felt horrible. She felt really good about the Xander part, but she felt icky about the Willow part. She had befriended her when no one else had, and she stabbed her in the back. She got dresses and went down the hall and down the steps. She looked for her mom, and found her sitting in the kitchen. She knew that her mom liked to spend the weekends at home with her, but sometimes she had to work. She propped herself down on one of the bar stools and looked at her mom. Joyce didn’t see her at first, but she smiled when she did.
“ Oh Buffy, you’re awake early. How was your dance last night?” Buffy sighed because she knew her mom would probably think her a mean person.
“ Mom, I’m a horrible person, do you realize that?” Joyce gave Buffy a very startled look.
“ What on earth are you talking about?” Buffy groaned not really wanting to talk about this.
“ You know Willow likes Xander right?” Joyce nodded to show her that she was following.
“ Yeah well, I like him too. I wasn’t going to act on it, because I knew her feelings. Anyway, Xander asked me to the dance and I had to explain things to him. He got kinda angry and kissed me right in front of Willow. Which is why I say that I’m a horrible person.” Joyce’s face switched from concern, to a soft smile.
“ Buffy, you are not a horrible person. You three are only sixteen years old, and if Xander didn’t like Willow, she shouldn’t punish you because he did like you. What you have to do is call her tomorrow, and make sure that she’s okay. You know she’s going to be upset, but just tell her that you still hope she can be your friend.” Buffy looked at her mom like she’d grown an extra head.
“ Mom, have you had first hand experience with this sort of thing?” Joyce grinned but stood up from her spot at the counter.
“ Listen Buffy, I’ve got to go into the gallery today. I know it’s usually our day to hang out, but we could do that tomorrow if you don’t mind.” Buffy sighed with relief, because she really wanted to call Xander.
“ I guess that’s okay, mom.” Joyce smiled and kissed Buffy on the top of her head.
“ I’ll see you tonight, sweetie. Buffy? No parties.” Buffy grinned at her, and headed up the stairs to call Xander.
Xander answered on the third ring, and she could hear his parents screaming in the background. Buffy felt sorry for him at times like this. His family were pretty much alcoholics, and she wanted to keep Xander away from them as much as she possibly could.
“ Xander, do you want come over later? My mom is going into work, and I really don’t want to be here by myself.” She could hear Xander smile into the phone, and she sat down with a grin. This boy didn’t realize just how cute he was. She got off the phone with him and went up to her room to take a shower and put on something cute.
It was two hours later, when Buffy was running down the stairs and there was someone at her front door. She looked at her watch and was a little confused, because Xander shouldn’t be here for another twenty minutes. She took a deep breath and walked over to the door. When she opened it, she was more then a little surprised to see Willow standing on her door step then Xander. She silently moved out of the way and allowed her to come into the living room.
“ Willow, I was going to call you tomorrow. I didn’t know if you’d want to hear from me today or not.” Willow looked grimly at Buffy. She didn’t look happy and she didn’t look sad. What she did look like was hysterical and angry.
“ I just wanted to clarify something with you, Buffy. Tell me that you and Xander aren’t together, and that he surprised you with that kiss.” Buffy chuckled nervously at Willow, because she was kind of freaking her out.
“ Of course he surprised me, Willow. I didn’t expect him to grab me like that. No, we’re not together, but that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I like him, Willow. I have for since I got here, but it was obvious that you liked him. Please tell me that this is okay.” Before Willow could say anything, There was a knock on the door. Buffy sighed and was once again surprised to see Xander on the front porch. He was grinning at her, but it immediately fell when he saw Willow standing next to Buffy. Willow started to laugh, and then started to yell.
“ I knew it, Buffy! You just can’t help yourself, can you? You’re beautiful, and you can have any boy in the entire school, so why do you want Xander? I thought you were my friend, but you were only trying to get to him!” Xander stepped up to say something, but Willow beat him to it.
“ Don’t you dare defend her, Xander Harris. She’s a conniving backstabbing, friend stealer. She used me to get to you, and you’re letting her!” Xander did speak up then.
“ Listen to me, Willow. I’m still your friend, I just want to be more to Buffy. She didn’t pursue me, just so you know. I’m the one who kissed her. Just because her and I are a couple now, doesn’t mean that we’re not still your friends.” Willow glared over at the two of them, and them spoke to Buffy.
“ So you’re not together, are you Buffy?” She didn’t give her a chance to speak again, she just stormed out of the house, leaving Buffy and Xander staring after her.
