Willow walked into the house, looking around. “Jexica?” she yelled.

“Willow!” The brunette bounded down the stairs, jumping into Willow’s arms. “How’s it going?”

“Good.”

“Why’re you here? Not that I don’t like seeing you, but—why?” Jexica knew that Willow hadn’t felt quite the same way for her mom that other people had. She hadn’t seen Willow much in her early years—it was only in the past three or four years that the redhead had come around to visit Faith more often.

“Kennedy got a call yesterday from one of the seers involved with the Council. She said you might want company.”

Jexica stared. “You heard about the drunken orgy tonight. Now I’ve got to cancel it.”

“You’re kidding. You—are, kidding, aren’t you?”

“I am. So, are you staying for a few days?”

“I’m going to stay through the memorial service. You’ll probably see a lot of people there…”

“Slayers and other White Hats. I get that. They all knew her.” Jexica masked her anger that it had been her mother to die, and not her.

“Yeah.”

“Willow, what’s going on? There’s a problem.”

“No there’s not.” Willow avoided Jexica’s eyes.

“Oh, come on, Red. You’ve got to tell her.” Willow spun, looking up. Faith stared down at her, gowned in robes of white.

“Faith?”

“Willow, what do you see?”

“Red, you’d better tell her what killed me. Girl’s not going to be prepared if you don’t warn her.”

“Angel could kill anyone he wanted. If she knows, if she doesn’t know; won’t help.”

“It’s not Angel. It’s Angelus. Lot more scary. You remember the last time that he was out, when that kid was with Queen C? Yeah, you don’t get him soon, he’ll get to everyone. He killed me, and he’s going after B. You don’t do something about that, he’ll start to get everyone else, too.”

Willow stared at the apparition for a moment before turning back to Jexica. She looked at the girl, realizing that this was what Faith might have looked like, had she come from a better family, and at a younger age.

“Um, Jexica, Faith was killed by, um, by Angel.”

“Angel loved Faith,” said Jexica. “Quit bullshitting me.”

“Angel loved Faith,” agreed Willow. “Angelus hated her.”

“Angelus? He’s back?” Jexica had been raised on stories of the battles where good won only part of the time—and where some of the evilest villains were known as Angelus.

“He is,” said Willow, not backing down.

The doorbell rang, and Jexica looked at it anxiously. “Who—”

“Don’t let anyone else in,” said Willow. “Not unless they walk in on their own.”

“Red, there’s something else, something bad,” said the still-floating ghost.

“Jexica?” called a voice. “Jexica, it’s me, Angel.”

“What should I do?” whispered Jexica to Willow. “Willow, I don’t know what to do.”

Willow stared at the scared girl.

“Jexica, please, can I talk to you?” She heard a sigh, then heard the door open. Footsteps came in.

“Willow! What a surprise.”

“Angel,” said Willow guardedly.

“Well, I guess she knows, then. Nothing to do but finish the feast.” Angelus vamped out. “Your mother tasted like heaven, Jex—inside and out. Wonder if Slayer’s blood gets diluted in their children.”

Willow started chanting in Latin, but Angelus waved her out of the way. “Please, Will, like I couldn’t have had protection miles around before I got here.” He backhanded her, sending her flying.

“Eenie, meanie, minie, moe. Should I go for the power of the witch, or for the elixir of the Slayer? Hm. This one looks too scared to move.” Angelus grinned at Jexica, then stalked to her, grabbing her arms. “Sit here, in this chair, and watch what I do to Willow. If you try to run, I’ll kill you both. Stay here, and I’ll only kill one of you.”

Willow stood up behind him, sending a pencil spiraling to his back. He batted it out of the way, then turned around.

“Willow. You ready?”

“Angelus, you won’t live through this,” promised the witch. “If I don’t get rid of you now, Kennedy will.”

“Oh, I already paid a little visit to your place. Staying at the Hellton Hotel, room 378—door right by the elevator. She was feisty; a good ride. She’s all tied up right now, just waiting for you. Crying out for her kite to come and set her free. Your anchor’s good and anchored.” He smiled, then moved away as Willow sent sparks at him.

Then it all went to hell.
