Buffy sat solemnly on the couch. Although it happened a few days ago the events of Oz’s death still played on her mind. Giles poured Buffy some tea and gave it to her.
“I’m sure it wasn’t intentional or anything,” Doyle commented, “like you said, it wasn’t a full Moon.”
Cordelia flashed Doyle an annoyed look
“And what part of crazy town are you from?” she said, ”I think Buffy would've stopped when being told wait or would've tried to figure out the stitch first. I mean, hello? Werewolf in Sunnydale? Usually Oz.”
Buffy looked up at Cordelia hurt
“Thanks for the support Cordy.” Buffy replied.
“Hey, I’d like to be all sorry and that but you’re usually caution gal. What’s with the mood swing?”
Buffy looked around the group of expectant faces. She dropped her head into her hand and stared into her tea.
“I don’t know. It just happened so fast. All I saw was Will in trouble and I got I kinda freaked.”
“We’ll I’m sure it wasn’t a deliberate act.” Giles replied, “The slayer is a dangerous calling. Occasionally there are some unfortunate incidents.”
“Have you spoken to Willow since offing her hunny?” Cordelia
Buffy looked stunned at Cornelia’s question. Then sighed and went back to staring at her tea.
“When I went back to the dorm room the next day she was gone and all of her stuff was cleared out. No note no nothing.”
“Hey, my personal philosophy, time heals all wounds just give her some space and then she might come back.” Doyle said friendly
“Please!” Cordelia replied “You just expect Willow to wake up one morning and go ‘gee I wonder how the girl who murdered my boyfriend is doing? I’ll give her a call.’ I’m sorry Buffy but you killed Oz there’s no going back from that.”
“Ah, Cordelia maybe you could be a little less helpful.” Giles said thoughtfully
“No Giles she right . . . “ Buffy started
“Duh!” Cordelia interrupted which earned her a look from both Giles and Doyle
“ . . . I killed Oz I have to face up to that. Willow gone and it’s all my fault.”
“Admitting it is the start of the healing process,” Giles said putting his arm around her “I’m sure with support . . . possibly not Cordelia’s . . . We can work through this and become stronger for it.”
“I just want to get this demon before he does any more damage. Any news on when Angel and Drogyn are coming back from England?” Buffy said
“I would imagine it would be soon. I contacted Gwendolyn in the witch coven in Sussex. She agreed to assist them in the extraction of Incarnates tomb.”
“Good I don’t want this thing to be free any longer then it has to be.”
Angel and Drogyn stood on the bridge overlooking the Deeper Well. Angel had never seen the well before and was awestruck at how deep it travels. From the entrance way and elegant looking blond woman approaches the vampire and the guardian.
“Greeting I am Gwendolyn. Rupert Giles says that you required my assistance.” Gwendolyn said Ethereally
“Yes good witch there is a coffin located deep in the center of the earth,” Drogyn said, “We need it relocated to the top of the well.”
“So you seek Incarnates tomb,” Gwendolyn states, “I heard news of his release. Sad time are ahead if he is not returned to his eternal slumber.”
“That’s why we need this done quickly. A friend of mine had a vision of him returning to demon form very soon.” Angel replied
“You will need to act quickly. I believe the watcher can handle the incantation. And you are going to need someone with strength to handle the primordial magick.”
“I think I can handle that.” Angel replied
“No dark one. The magick cannot be handled by a demon. It must be handled by a warrior of the light.”
“The vampire has access to a slayer I believe that would be sufficient for the magick.” Drogyn said thoughtfully
“Very well. As long as all is prepared by the time this coffin arrived at its destination.”
Angel looked at the witch curiously.
“It has to be organized before we get to Sunnydale?”
“You don’t understand Angel.” Gwendolyn explained, “Incarnate is tied to the tomb. He will sense if it is moved. Once this has transpired you have very little time before Incarnate will retaliate.”
Angel sighed. He ran a checklist through his mind to make sure all the bases are covered.
“I’ll make sure I ring Giles once we get the coffin. He’ll tell Buffy to be ready to go when we get the primordial magick to her.”
Gwendolyn was confused. She looked at the vampire curiously.
“Who is this Buffy of which you speak?” Gwendolyn asked
“Buffy? She’s the slayer.” Angel replied
Gwendolyn shook her head seriously
“No this Buffy is not the slayer.” Gwendolyn replied
It was angels turn to look curious. Suddenly he realized what she was talking about.
“Oh you mean Faith is the real Slayer. Well Buffy did die for a short period of time . . .”
“You misunderstand me Angel,” Gwendolyn interrupts, “I had hoped this was not true for many years but it is clear to me now that this unfortunate circumstance has occurred.”
“What are you saying?” Angel asked
“About four years ago a strong mystical force manipulated the slayer line. What I am trying to tell you, Angel, is that Buffy Summers should not be the slayer.”
